Margarita Flight

If you're looking for great margs, tacos & vibes, you need to check out Barrio Queen! This is a prime spot for a causal date, girls night or for a delicious meal before going out in Old Town! I love anything pineapple, and the Piñarita Marg & Al Pastor Tacos are perfect if you do too! You need to get the marg flight, the Barrio & Prickly margs are extra tasty too! I love the taco combination place because you can pick any three tacos you want!

Don't go here...place looks cool from outside and I sd the decor looks cool Stopped at Barrio Queen after doing the wine trail in Scottsdale, hoping to get some good food in us -- big mistake. The tableside guac was bland and barely seasoned, and the pomegranate on top made it even worse. Chips was nasty too and didn't help at all. Service was slow even though the place wasn't busy, which made it more frustrating. The tacos came out cold and honestly were some of the worst I've had. They looked good but tasted the opposite Only decent thing on the plate was the rice and beans. Definitely not a spot I'd go back to.

We didn't have the greatest experience here but I think it has potential to be a great spot. We arrived on a Monday early evening and the hostess was not happy we didn't make a reservation even though the restaurant was not even 1/4 full. She didn't want to seat us in a booth or table as there was only two of us, so we sat at the bar. Trying to get the bartender to check on us was not easy, and got frustrating when we wanted to leave but had to wait 15 minutes for him to show back up so we could ask for our check. We ordered guacamole and it is usually prepared tableside, but we assume they didn't want to make at the bar. I requested no cilantro and it was served to us packed full of it which made me feel they had one extra in the back and just brought it to us. I saw and ordered a Mexican Coke on the menu and was told they didn't really have or offer that. The food was "ok" but nothing great. All in all not a great experience.

We just ate at the bar for happy hour. Definitely try the elite ribs, which is corn ribs (partially on the cob). The flavor is really good. The guacamole is also delicious, with pomegranates in it. The chicken quesadilla was ok, not sure how you can go wrong with a quesadilla. It took 20-30 minutes to come out. I think our bartender forgot about it, it was his first week working there. However, he was nice and comped us for it because we were in a rush. I'll update my review if we eat an actual meal here again.

Great Mexican food in Old Town Scottsdale! Plenty of vegetarian options. Waitress was nice.

This Barrio Queen is conveniently located in the very center of the Old Town of Scottsdale, just one minute from the canal. The patio is well decorated and it is relaxing place to stay even longer. I ordered chile en nogada as it is a seasonal item. It was very good, although it has obviously some differences compared to the original ones in Mexico. Altogether, it was tasty, as was the house margarita. The service was very friendly and efficient, and we felt welcomed to enjoy the treats.

Comment to business owner: I did not realize segregating customers with disabilities from other customers was the restaurant's policy. I thought it was just a misinformed hostess. That is illegal. Here's what I found when I did a google search: "No, restaurants cannot require people with service animals to sit outside; under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), service animals must be allowed in all areas where the public is permitted"

Came in today for lunch with the family. I have heard about this restaurant and thought why not give it a try and I'll say now I'll be coming back. Started with the chips and salsa which was amazing. Salsa nice flavor and chips nice and crispy but not over cooked. Then we got the queso which was nice and flavorful Al's had mushrooms, beef, and some type of pepper. Also got a strawberry frozen margarita. I got the trio fajitas and the meat was cooked perfectly as well as the peppers. Mom got the same thing, and my other half got a carna asada burrito. Service was amazing and the place is nice and clean and has that whole feel of family as well. We will be returning for sure.

Cute Mexican food place! I got a shrimp taco and it was pretty good. I also order a mango Maratha and it tasted like soap. Wasn't the best thing but the barrio marg my bf ordered was good! The service was iffy when our food came, we had a table of 12 one of the servers tried to hand me other people's food to figure out who it belonged too. I kindly told him I don't know what others ordered as I was sitting at the end of the table. I was in shock because it is not my job to figure out whose food is food. They also put my taco and my bf taco on the same plate even though we ordered separately. Overall I was not impressed.

Queso Fundido acting like a solid and not a liquid

Service was okay, they didn't know which order belonged to us. Me and my girlfriend's orders came out on one plate together for some reason. The texture of the queso was disgusting and gritty. It had a cheese pull like it was mozzarella. It didn't even cover the bottom of the container like a liquid should. Guac was good and fresh, would have been better without pomegranate. Margarita and pork carnitas came out as expected, but the tortilla was weirdly cake-like.

We were at another location years ago. We're in town and were walking around and shopping when we decided it was time for lunch. There just happened to be a Barrio Queen right by us! It was pretty busy, but there were tables available and we were seated right away. The menus appear to be old and the print is rubbed off here and there throughout the whole thing so it was a little hard to fill in some of the blanks. We placed our order and our drinks and food came out very quickly. Everything was good! I imagine we'll go back again sometime when we're in town!

This review is for the totality of the experience…read more I made an advance reservation at Alma Scottsdale for a mid-sized group of 7 to celebrate a special occasion. Our party arrived right on time for our reservation, but we were not seated until 15 min later because our table was not ready. It took about an additional 15 min to get tap water for the table (there was not enough provided anyways), and to place our orders too another ~20 min. The food did not arrive until 30 min later. For context, we eventually learned that the restaurant was short staffed and the bartender was also operating as our waiter. When the food finally arrived, there was a mix-up on what was delivered. We had checked with the staff who delivered one of the dishes: we ordered the "wild mushroom" side, but what we received did not look quite like it. We asked clarifying questions x2, but were assured, "no, it is the wild mushroom." Turned out, it was the mushroom empanada that was delivered to our table, which we originally did not order. The management did rectify the situation upon the conclusion of the event when we were paying the bill, but to us, it felt a bit accusatory as if we intentionally wanted to cause a huge fuss about the final total, which was absolutely not the case. The food in general was delicious. If this was a more standard dining experience, it would have been 4-5 stars just for the food. The service was very subpar, and really colored the entire experience negatively, therefore the two star review. I understand that staffing shortages happen -- fine. My family has worked in food service as wait staff for 25+ YEARS, so I am empathetic. But for management to ring up our bill and then come confront us in an inflammatory manner, making us feel like we were wrong, on an occasion to celebrate something special, was extremely disappointing.

I stopped by The Mission Old Town for brunch on my birthday (on a Sunday). While they don't have a…read moreparking, it's located in the heart of Old Town so parking is free on the street and in most surface lots. I found a spot in the surface lot right across the street from one of the most popular Mexican restaurants in town. Ambiance (4/5): The Mission is a nice restaurant. There's a small patio in front and a large patio out back. Sit at the outdoor patio if you can pull it off. Inside is great too, and there's nice artwork both inside and outside. The only issue? It's a popular restaurant and they try to pack in as many people as possible so space is at a premium. That also means that if you come at a peak hour, like we did, it's going to be pretty loud. Service (4/5): There was a wait when we arrived and the bar was full (first come, first served). Luckily, a group was leaving right when I lingered by the bar and we were able to snag the seats. The bartender did a pretty good job taking care of us. There was room for improvement as far as her efficiency and checking in, but overall, given how busy the restaurant was, pretty good. Drinks (4.5/5): The Mission has an interesting cocktail list. As you'd expect, it's tequila-focused but there's a good variety. You'll find creative cocktails which is always big in my book. Plus margaritas like prickly pear margaritas. I went with the correndo na chuva which has cachaca, passion fruit, lemongrass, sherry, and lime juice. Cachaca is a Brazilian liqueur which you don't see in many places so this was a treat. It was a refreshing cocktail. Lots of spicy cocktails are available, too. Food (4/5): While the brunch menu is pretty extensive, I think there's a clear winner: the all-you can eat whole roasted pig out. For $19, and only on Saturdays and Sundays during brunch, it's a steal of a deal. You get pineapple roasted shoulder and pork belly carnitas tacos served with your choice of one of five sauces. There's a little buffet stand where a member of their staff will make the tacos for you. I had about 10 of them and they hit the spot! Nice variety of sauces so I tried all of them except for one (two spicy for my blood) and you can request flour tortillas if you prefer that over the corn tortillas they have. Between the two proteins, I thought the pork shoulder was more flavorful and tender. It's no surprise that The Mission Old Town has some of the most Yelp reviews in town. It's a popular restaurant. Just make sure to make a reservation or stop by outside of peak hours or there's a good chance you'll have a wait.
