It was the most traumatic appt. I went in under the…read moreSeniors Dental program. My hygienist was condescending, rude and kept reminding me that since I survived C, then this should be easy. SERIOUSLY! A positive thing was the Dr Lee's attention to my needs. The other was the techs. I had an anxiety attack from being in the chair for over an hour. I told the hygienist that I was having pain in my back and around scarred areas. She seemed preoccupied with finishing up and getting me out. She offered no help. I had a planned visit for just xrays and assessment. I was there well over 2 hours and the claim they submitted did not include the extras that were not planned or discussed. The future claim was also short on some items which would have costed me many more dollars. Please do your homework before consenting to treatments. Know what is being done, how much time is involved, what can be done for you if you need a break, what are ALL the expenses. Call Sunlife to review the claim and possible costs and items not included. Be your own advocate. Take someone with you to listen and ask questions. I LOVE White Cedar dental. I have been with this dentist for 10 years now…read more I was PETRIFIED of dentists and needed ant anxiety just to get through the door ten years ago. I would then have sleep dentistry just to get it done. Now I go and get my teeth cleaning and dental work done regularly without medication or sleep dentistry even though it is offered. The dentists are top notch know their stuff and are really great. I have had a lot of dental work needed since chemotherapy and these dentists are top notch and totally keep my teeth and smile both healthya nd looking its best. I let them know that I have a child home with me, and they literally put me on hold to see if it was alright, then came back on, and even though they called me for that day- told me to stick to the original date. I had to actually convince them to let me book a cleaning. Good hygenist, very caring. When it came time to book for the gum treatment, they wanteed $150 just to meet with the dentist. This is not to get any gum recession work done, but - they cancelled the appt. for next week which included a dentist, so wanting to bill me for two separate visits didn't seem right. Not a solid first experience.

Not sure why there is good reviews for this dentist. As usual when you go to a dentist they…read moremiraculously find cavities right away (funny considering I just was at another dentist a month earlier and none were detected) regardless I agreed to have them filled. Well that was a mistake, had to go in on Wednesday as it's there only day open to times for people who work. Was at the appointment for almost 2 hours because the dentist kept leaving the room. Missed freezing my tooth 3 times (third needle she jammed into the bone of my jaw) so 40 minutes of drilling an unfrozen tooth. Than leaves the room again after she drills it for another 30 minutes (keep in mind there's an open hole in my tooth during this time). Also the hygienist squirted me multiple times on the arms and chest and multiple times forgot to turn on the suction while working on my mouth. Absolute travesty of a dentist. Strongly recommend avoiding!

In looking for a Dentist listed as participating in the new CDCP (Fed. dental insurance program) I…read morecalled Nia Dental and had a friendly conversation with Tara, I believe. She shared with me that as a new patient there would be a 2 hour plus initial examination and the price would be $269. and this price was based on the Ontario Dental Association Schedule, I asked what the CDCP would cover and that number assuming 100% of the CDCP pricing schedule would be $157. The government is providing me with 40% coverage of the CDCP schedule, which would leave me to pay the remaining 60% or $94. However Nia's charge is $269 or $112 above the government schedule. Therefore I would be paying the $112 delta on the two pricing schedules (ODA vs. CDCP) plus the 60% not covered by the government plan for a total of $206. which is significantly above what the government has deemed to be a standard fee. I'm left with the impression that either Nia, backed by ODA data is setting very a aggressive price or the government plan is providing completely inadequate coverage. I call SunLife, the plan administrator, and their only advise was "shop around".
