Located in Chesterly park, just off 40th and River Road, it's easy to get to and go from. The place has tons of different spaces within, including an aquatic center for kids with a number of waterslides, including two that actually go out the building and inside again, as well as waiting pools and a small lazy river. The place gets busy on weekends, but thus far hasn't been overwhelming! There's a large Olympic size pool for laps as well as an adults only warmer pool and a bit ole hot tub! Downstairs is a very nice basketball court As well as locker rooms and family locker rooms. All of the lockers are day use only, so it shouldn't create the issues of not being able to store your stuff anywhere. Upstairs love the free weights, nautilus machines, treadmills/elliptical machines and a running track. All the machines allow you to track your progress over time as well. Memberships are very affordable, especially for families, and This is a great addition to the valley and provides Another great place for kids to go during the year, and especially in the winter months.

Massage Chair Insanity? I am a huge fan of Planet Fitness,…read morelocated on Summitview Ave. This gym has a great staff and excellent facilities, which are scrubbed within an inch of their lives. Memberships are affordable and great value as part of the Planet Fitness brand promise. But...there is one issue that occupies a growing space in my cranium and now deserves some virtual airtime, massage chair #1. This chair is part of the Black Card membership service, which provides members additional spa-related services at a higher monthly price. From a brand promise perspective, this sets the service level higher. Now, this chair has had ongoing functional health issues for months. Many members have notified gym staff when it doesn't work, and an outside repair service person has attempted to fix the chair unsuccessfully. This repeated behavior raises questions of sanity and a failed brand promise. At what point does the cost of repairs exceed the cost of replacing this chair with a new one? The quote that defines insanity as repeating the same behavior and expecting a different outcome springs to mind. Removing or refusing to fix the chair fails Planet Fitness' brand promise, especially at the Black Card membership level. For me, this Planet Fitness would need to replace the chair with a new one to restore what is now becoming a broken brand promise, not to mention a royal annoyance. If you can and are a member, mention it to the staff. Maybe the owner of this Planet Fitness location needs to hear a critical mass of complaints before they make good on their brand promise. Also, if you are looking for a great place to workout, join this gym. Don't let this minor fix negatively influence your decision. This place is well worth the price of admission. Feedback like this is intended to keep standards high for all current and future members.

On a chilly morning with fat snowflakes silently falling, made it to the Yoga Hot Spot. I was…read moredriving from Tri-Cities and meeting up with a friend for the 9am class. We managed to make it in the door at 8:45 and inside we could already see people were crammed in the studio. I tiptoed among the yoga-istas on the floor and founds some real estate to lay my mat. As the name of the studio implies, this is a hot yoga studio. There is one room for yoga practice. There is an area with cubby holes to stash your gear. (I didn't check out the locker room area). Our class was a Hatha class (they also have power yoga and a "fusion" type of class). I generally grumble about hot yoga, because I sweat like rain cloud, but on this chilly day, the heat actually felt comforting. The yoga instructor was great. For me, I have experienced a range of instructors between scary drill instructors to sleep-inducing New Age-y. So, all I can say is the class was good. It was hard enough for me to do most poses, and leave some poses a bit above my skill (which is good and something to shoot for next time). As with most yoga sessions, the best pose: Savasana (--The Corpse Pose--). After any yoga class the feeling of tiredness, calm, and energy is always worth all the sweat, strain, & struggle. The studio is nice. There is no funky smell. It was clean and new.

There are so many things I adore about this studio. They bring such a superior game to this small…read morecity. I really hope they continue to hold themselves to the high standard that they've set. Keep it up!!! Hot Spot does a great job of making newcomers feel welcome. I started here, but I've since been to studios where they sort of shout out directives and move from the next pose to the other without helping you or directing your breath. Here, they not only introduce each pose but gently remind you of its proper form. Each instructor takes care to pay attention to the direction of the breath and remind you of which muscles and organs you're engaging ("This is helping your transverse colon...." -- and things like that.) It's a great reminder of the "why" to it all and it refocuses your mind to really engage in the posture. The studio itself is really cute, really clean, feels new, and makes me want to come back or never leave. The practice room has never had even the faintest smell. Sometimes before Yin yoga starts (deep stretching class that is AMAZING!!!) they will light some incense which really sets the mood. The lights are always dim or off, which I really like and have learned is not always the case at all studios! All of the instructors are adorable. They all follow the same sort of generalized script, but each one has their own changes, additions, emphasis, intonation. I get giddy every time I have every instructor here, there is no going wrong with any of them. One thing I really love about the class is that instructors will walk around at parts of the practice. Sometimes they will adjust your posture, but other times they will help you reach a deeper level of the posture that you wouldn't be able to without their help. I have had instructors hold my feet down during cobra to allow my back to really soar. I've also had some lift me in the pose where you're on your belly, holding your ankles with your hands. (What's that one called again??) Incredible back stretch. My favorite posture is Camel Pose ("This is a heart opening posture!") Overall, the tone is always warm, soothing, and absolutely 'detoxifying' -- many of them will add affirmations to the end of practice, and really treat it as the spiritual practice that it is. I feel rejuvenated every time I come. All levels are welcome. I feel so lucky to have started hot yoga here!
