It has been a wonderful place to watch my children grow. Ms. Anne works hard to create a diverse and inclusive studio where kindness is preeminent. Kindness always. She is also a supporter of Brown Ballerinas for Change, where she hosts a spring fundraiser for BBFC each year. She truly believes in the power of dance and it being an art that is for everybody and every body. In fact, BBFC was founded by four CVDA dancers in 2020 as a way to make classical ballet accessible to all communities by offering tuition-free ballet classes. When my husband passed away unexpectedly in 2022, our CVDA family wrapped their arms around me and my children to make sure we felt supported and encouraged. There is a family atmosphere that is welcoming for everyone who enters the studio. In the recital this past weekend, my 7 year old daughter literally fell flat on her face during a solo in one of her dances while on stage. You know what she did...she got up, looked at her teacher who was cheering her on from the orchestra pit and she kept dancing. I also love the parents at the studio- they are supportive to each other and always willing to jump in and help. He is funny and a great teacher. He makes things engaging and fun. He set us up in an oval around class. Leads would stay where they were and follows would rotate when told to. We started the class with basic steps, then partnered up and added twirls. He picked the perfect music that wasn't too fast so we could keep up. I had an incredible time. It's a small studio located on the second floor. There is a lot of free parking out front. I still have three more classes to go, but I'd highly recommend taking a class at RVA Dance Studio. Since it's intimate, you can smell other folks too (but that isn't the venue's fault). They have one gender, neutral bathroom. I love that they have a water fountain. They also have plenty of free parking spots outside. It's a pretty casual space. The other side of the dividers seem to have more natural lighting and more mirrors. Our side had a smaller mirror. Kim and her team of teachers are awesome! My daughter loves it! They even have an adult class and mother/daughter dance in the recital! I am so glad that we decided to try this new studio. I feel like there are different types of pole. Some emphasize the workout, others focus on the confidence and dance aspects. I prefer the latter, but Butter & Filth does an amazing job at incorporating all the elements. It feels like a fully balanced space. I have taken a few B&F infusion classes. You are required to start with these before you can sign up for their other classes. It's a three class beginner series. They have two studios now, which are about 5 minutes driving from each other. The class mentions which location it'll take place at. If you're interested in joining this studio, you'll want to sign up for their newsletter to get notified when the registration for B&F infusion is open to signup for (usually at the beginning of the month). It seems like you're required to take it twice before moving on to their normal classes. Do not be discouraged by the pricing here. It's a local business with incredible teachers and a wonderful vibe. You don't only learn a lot, but it feels like an investment in self love. I know that sounds cheesy, but I usually leave classes there feeling inspired and really proud or good about myself. It's an amazing community and I'm excited to continue my journey with them.

Barre is my favorite kind of workout. This studio is super cute. It's one big room with a mirror at the front of class. When you walk in, there is a counter to check-in at and a white board with all the equipment you need for the class that day. It's located in a strip mall so there is tons of easy and free parking in the lot out front. They have one single stall bathroom in the back right corner. They also have a water fountain. Mallory was my instructor for the day and was incredibly welcoming and helpful. She took the time to explain the class to me and suggested I sit up front so it was a bit easier to follow her. This class was a really fun challenge. She played music that matched the movements and I found myself shocked at how fast time went. They have great equipment here so you don't need to bring anything but yourself (no special socks needed for this one). I highly recommend checking out this studio!
