A great, quick stop to get quality food! There's no dine in options, but rather plenty of tablets to easily place your order. Despite it being pretty busy, our food was ready in under 10 minutes. If we were in a hurry or on the way somewhere, I imagine its as quick as anything to grab and go. The vibe inside was modern and fits the city well. Craving a robust deli sandwich while in midtown? Go to Barney Brown for a delicious sandwich with fixings that hit all the cravings. A new experience to order via a screen, yet when the "tap" payment didn't work, someone was quick to assist. Sandwich options include light, medium, heavy options with a visual of the building of your sandwich. I could decide visually how much mustard or meat I wanted. Medium was perfect. This area is not my neighborhood, yet I'd travel down from uptown for this sandwich or definitely recommend the place for pickup for a Bryant Park picnic. A fun experience where you walk in, step up to a kiosk, order, wait, and devour your created sandwich! After selecting the many options, my protein stacked handheld beast of a sandwich was the size of a 5 lb dumbbell. From the bead choices, deli meat, cheese slices, all the extras, and sauce addition, the creation was enough for two meals! This is BSidesNYC's second year using Barney Brown as our conference lunch caterer and we couldn't be happier! We do a large order of the individual brown bag sandwiches so that each attendee can just "grab and go", which works out perfectly for us. Here's what keeps us coming back: 1) The food is excellent! The sandwiches are well thought out and super tasty. We've done turkey brie, classic italian, roast beef, tomato mozzarella, vegan, and a kosher tuna wrap. We have heard zero complaints - except that we under-ordered a few meals - and received many unsolicited compliments. 2) The professionalism. They do what they say, when they say they'll do it. Ahead of the conference they help us figure out the menu and are able to modify certain items (within reason) to accommodate guests who keep kosher or have other dietary requirements. The day of, the food arrives fresh, well presented, on time, every year. And they communicate well throughout. 3) The flexibility. We are what I assume is a nightmare scenario for any caterer: a bunch of amateurs, all volunteers, running a conference of 1200+ attendees. Something always goes wrong on our end. Easy to order. Endless sandwich possibilities with choosing bread, meat, cheese, etc. My pastrami and corned beef were very freshly and well prepared; however it should be noted the sandwiches use very thinly sliced meat, which may or not be one's preference. A few notes to add. I came back sooner than expected but it satisfied my plans, half sandwich for lunch and taking half to the ballgame. They lost my ticket while assembling the sandwich so I had to verbally repeat my order. Not a big deal but I liked how they threw in a free bag a chips. Nice touch. Only other point to make is, I'd prefer a more practical and even distribution of the meat. It's centered around the middle so it makes for a good photo but the rest of the sandwich suffers for it. read more

As someone who is so picky when it comes to sandwiches, I absolutely love the variety that Barney Brown offers when it comes to literally everything. There are so many bread, meat, and topping options, and they're all there for you to choose what you want. AND, as someone with social anxiety who is constantly looking for ways to not interact with people, I love their ordering system. Either order online, or when you get there, order on one of their many screens. There's a tiny window where you pick up your order, and that's that. As you can see from the sandwich I got, they give you your money's worth of toppings, not skimping on anything. I was shocked when I opened the sandwich and saw all those layers of stuff I'd gotten. Truly the only thing I have to complain about is that this prosciutto was crazy salty. I don't know where they got their prosciutto from, but it was absolutely insane how this meat made my tongue burn just from the first bite. I ended up having to take out a bunch of slices of it because it got to be too much. To my fellow picky eaters, I recommend. And I'd definitely return, just not to get the prosciutto. read more

First time trying this sandwich shop. I ordered on their website for pick up. You customize your sandwich or select from their long list of sandwich options. I chose to customize my sandwich (semolina bread, turkey, provolone, mayo/dijon mustard, lettuce, tomato, roasted peppers, banana peppers, jalapeño peppers, onions, oregano, and coleslaw) along with a scoop of egg salad, 2 sour pickles and a diet dr brown's cream soda. The sandwich was tasty but wasn't too happy that the bread was soggy and messy to eat. Wasn't a huge fan of the egg salad (bland) and sour pickle wasn't the greatest. The quality of the ingredients were fresh though but they def packed in the meat. There's no tables inside to sit and eat, and you order on a kiosk then someone is there to hand you your order once ready. I'd be back to try another sandwich. read more

I had their sandwiches at a recent convention held at John Jay college. Definitely quality sandwiches, assembled with some real thoughtfulness. I had a roast beef and cheddar with some punchy horseradish as a condiment. The separately wrapped pickle was a nice surprise, and the Cape Cod kettle chips were the right side to go with the sandwich. I would use them as a caterer or grab lunch there if I was in the area. read more

I got a Build Your Own Sandwich with Multigrain Roll, Turkey, Brie, Arugula, Spinach, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Avocado, Cucumber, Pickle, and Honey Mustard. The Honey Mustard is the perfect sauce if you want something a little sweet to go with the other salty parts of the sandwich. The portion is average but the ingredients are really fresh. Such a different vibe then u would expect when you walk into a sandwich shop especially if you are from Brooklyn. I'm used to a Italian sandwich shops in Brooklyn with a big counter and a bunch of people trying to shout their order lol. This was just one big room with a little window that hands you the sandwich after you place the order on the kiosk. There is one or two long couches against the wall so you can sit down if you need too. And it has a all the menus on the wall , sandwich's they created , build your on , or they even have some that the customers created (you name it too)and if they liked so they have those up there too and they said it changes all the time. Do even think twice and GO directly to Barney Brown. I stumbled on this deli and it is probably one of the best sandwiches I have had in a long time. I ordered one of the custom sandwiches and the kiosk ordering was so easy and graphically showed your sandwich being built. Not to mention how many options they had. When I sat down and started eating my sandwich I could not believe how fresh all of the ingredients tasted.. absolutely amazing. The Multi Grain Bun was very tasty, the standard serving of turkey was plenty, cucumber, lettuce, tomato and to find a deli that offers alfalfa sprouts, WOW. My plan was to only eat half my sandwich since it was later in the afternoon but that did not work, i finished the whole thing. Go to Barney Brown, you will not be disappointed! read more

It's really a 3.5 star location. Finding decent food in Midtown is quite difficult. I spotted Barney Brown which makes quick sandwiches. The first time I ordered this it was 11/10. The best sandwich I've ever had. I recommended it to all of my friends. Today I ordered it and it was half the size, half the ingredients, one slice of cheese on both sandwiches (including the veggie one) and it was so hard we had to microwave it. Very very sad after I recommended it to everyone. I still think the first was the best sandwich ever so hopefully it is not like this all the time because I love getting it read more

The greatest addition to the garment district / Bryant Park to date. They opened 2 months ago, and I haven't eaten lunch anywhere else since. Literally every single day I place an order ahead of time for pickup at 12:00. I'm done eating by 12:05. It's not your average sandwich shop. They always get it right. There are 1000 combos you can create from the website or your phone (the technology is pretty sick). I have a belly, so I'm eating lettuce wraps (as per my wife). Unbelievable taste and top-notch ingredients. The variety of tailored combos is crazy, whatever you want, it's there for you to create the ultimate customized sandwich of your choice. Customer service is great. At this point, they greet me with a big smile and just hand me my cool Barney Brown brown bag, and I'm out of there in 10 seconds. Also have had a lot of contact with Matt, one of the owners, and he sincerely values any input. I can see these stores popping up all over the city from the two locations they have now. Franchising might be a good idea this early. Great stuff. read more

Food needs some improving, not a lot of vegan options and for the price you pay that's almost triple of what you can get at any other place and it's a bit pricey and they have an option to leave a tip as well. Service is okay and not that bad which somewhat makes up for the nearly ridiculous prices, but the environment is some what relaxing the interaction is fine though. For the sake of this review I give it a three but I really want to give it two and a half for what it is but can't. read more

Inside it was PACKED, and several groups and lines snaked around the dividers. But the line moved quickly between customers picking up to-go meals and placing orders at the counters. The display cases are beautiful and feature so many different kinds of cream cheese. (Who knew you could make a whole vat of Biscoff?) They also had many types of smoked fish and toppings for customers filing through. Once you order food, you take your ticket to the register where you can add any drinks. This also went fairly quickly. Food and drink order numbers were called out and checked with the receipts, although they called out a set of orders for several minutes and no one came to pick them up. There are a few tables there, but since customers wait to grab drinks and food near the front, the couple tables at the front were basically for crowd control. I definitely wouldn't try to eat there unless I happened to be going at a quieter time. I got the bagel with smoked salmon, and it was exactly what I had been craving. Their bagels are a quarter pound each, so you might even get two meals out of it if you have a fridge for storage. But even as good as the bagel was, the hot chai latte with oat milk was the star for me. It was so incredibly layered for flavor and fragrant, just lightly sweet. I would go out of my way on a trip to NYC just to get one of these for breakfast! We all really enjoyed our food, and I will definitely return.
