Husky pride mixed with books. Add in coffee with the attached Starbucks to this mega bookstore and you have a very happy member of UConn Nation right here.
I have never seen such an airy, modern, beautifully constructed bookstore before. Now, I love bookstores of all shapes and sizes, so I have a slightly biased opinion about bookstores generally speaking. But this is a bookstore for the state's university. It is separated perfectly into three sections: Husky apparel and memorabilia (including UConn Hartford t-shirts); books; and textbooks and school supplies (including individual Bluetooth speakers with the UConn logo). Each section has a notable selection, amazingly so in a relatively compact space. I snagged a Husky t-shirt immediately (represent my Huskies) then bounded up the steps and grabbed a couple of books and notebooks. (Running on coffee, but hey, it's an educational purchase.)
The store itself is built into a small hill so there are steps up from the street level past the Starbucks onto the apparel level and several more steps onto the books and supplies level. Slightly inaccessible, but off to the side is a lift for wheelchair accessibility. Oh, and regarding location--directly across the street is the UConn Hartford campus. So it's in a great and convenient location.
Just as notable as the bookstore itself is the staff. Each staff member was very welcoming and helpful. The cashier even made sure to put in my Barnes & Noble member account so my transaction would be tracked and I could receive a member discount. (No, I'm not just saying it's nice because I had coffee--this staff was really fantastic; efficient, too.) [Husky Bucks are accepted here just as a Barnes & Noble membership is!!]
Representing Husky territory quite well in the Hartbeat, this Barnes & Noble College bookstore is a definite place to shop for supplies and ways to show off your UConn pride. read more
