This company misfiled my mother's estate taxes under the wrong EIN to both the state and the federal government. I was alerted to the problem by getting a letter from the State of Colorado. I alerted Barker Financial by email and heard nothing back. I called them and they said they would figure it out, and then heard nothing back. I emailed them twice more and heard nothing back. Simply terrible. This has been going on for 6 weeks. I'm taking this to a different accountant to start over. A different accountant there used to do my mother's taxes when she was alive. He was good and there were no problems. read more

I have been a client of Barker Financial for over a decade, but it's new management is an utter failure. I was notified that, for the second year in a row, I would have a new accountant working on my account. Looking back, that should have been a red flag! I provided the new contact with all of my 2023 documentation on February 15, 2024. At my request, I received an email confirmation on February 17th. When I hadn't received any contact for several weeks, i inquired as to the status of my returns in late March and my contact said the files "were corrupt." I was asked to convert them all to pdf files. I took the "corrupt" files and converted them all to pdfs. Not hearing back, I again started sending requests for a status update, with no response. Out of frustration, I emailed the former owner who contacted the office on my behalf. I quickly received an e,ail requesting a 1099 for a specific account. I responded by email that there was no 1099 because the account was a ROTH IRA, which had no tax consequences. Not receiving a response, I called and left a voice message on April 12. Again i didn't receive a response. Now it was April 15th and i tried to call again. This time i actually reached my assigned accountant who said he was still waiting for the 1099. When i explained to him that, as i had noted in my reply to his email request, that account had no tax liability and thus, no 1099, he told me he could finish the returns in time, but i shouldn't worry because Barker automatically filed for an extention. A week later i received a notice from the state that i was not eligible to receive the state's $800 sales tax rebate because my return wasn't fi.ed by the April 15 deadline. Since then I have been trying to reach the accountant and the firm's new owner in hope the firm could intervene with the state on my behalf. Neither of these individuals has returned my calls. I am obviously at a loss to understand what a financial services firm does if it doesn't know current tax laws and can't respond to client needs. read more

To start, their fees are going up exponentially and do not reflect the lack of both quality and attention to details. We had our tax appointment Feb 4th. We needed to gather receipts for our daughters return. We gathered the required data and sent it to our tax preparers email on Feb 6th. We followed up again march 13th as we had not gotten our refund or a bill. Still got no response... then we called on March 25th. Finally got a response on March 26th. We turned in a document with additional income that had 0 taxes taken out, and were told that our federal return had improved due to that.... seemed fishy.... Also we were told our 16 yr old daughter who had earned less than 3000.00 supposedly owed almost 800 in taxes... we have lost all faith in your business and your ability to do your jobs accurately. We will not be using your services again. Over priced, lack of attention to details and lack of responses to communication are all too much. We are seriously considering going elsewhere and having the returns reviewed as we do not believe the job was done appropriately. read more

I'm very satisfied with this year's work. There was a previous difficult year with staff changes but it all seems to be running smooth and effectively now. I have been a client there for over ten years and it's so nice to keep that consistency. read more

I would give 0 stars if it would let me. I would avoid this company at all costs..... They are expensive and yet, you as the client do most of the work. You are basically paying people who can't answer important tax related questions to input numbers that you prepared yourself into a system. I have seen them be very rude to people and they are definitely not in the business of making sure you get your taxes done correctly. I wouldn't trust them and I would say with so many other choices out there, avoid these guys. read more

Would also leave zero stars if I could. I have been going here years. My tax guy retired and the last 2 years here have not been great. Over priced and they can't keep up with their clients in a timely manner. They charge you for asking questions through email. They just want your money. I too wonder if my taxes were done right... Recommended my mother in law to them and they totally messed her taxes up and charged her for things she had no clue about. Then when you let them know they did wrong they have to get the last jab in at you making it sound like it was your fault. Very dissatisfied with there customer service.
