Specialties
Bark Frameworks is one of the world's foremost framers of contemporary, modern, and Impressionist art -- an invaluable resource to artists, art world professionals, collectors, and interior designers. The company specializes in framing the Impressionism period forward; custom-made mirror frames are also a specialty.
Every Bark frame is designed and built in-house. The company's 18,000 square foot facility--which houses a showroom, design and preservation studios, and a full woodshop--is conveniently located in Long Island City. Please note: our designers meet with clients by appointment only.
Our staff are trained in conservation framing practice and use only the highest quality archival materials. Our designers work closely with each client and welcome collaboration. Whether the frame is one we create today, or one of our first simple profiles from the early 70s, all are of our own design.
History
Established in 1969.
Bark Frameworks was founded by Jared Bark, a practicing artist, who started out making custom frames for his artist friends out of his loft in SoHo in the 1960s. The company has grown over five decades, but our commitment to our clients and our level of quality is constant. Our designers and craftspeople pursue innovative design while maintaining the highest standards of preservation framing practices. These two commitments -- to the esthetics of frame design, and to the preservation of works framed -- define Bark's mission as a business.
Our showroom and workshops are located just five minutes from Manhattan, in Long Island City.
Meet the Business Owner: ESOP C.
As of 2017, Bark Frameworks is 100% employee owned. Every Bark staff member is dedicated to the company mission: creating frames of innovative design using materials of the highest archival quality, ensuring that your artwork is kept safe for years to come.
Karl Thorndike, who was the acting CEO of Bark Frameworks at the time of this change, stated “This transition of ownership was favorable for both our dedicated workforce and our clients…it ensured the future availability of the high level of craftsmanship and care of artworks established by Jed Bark.” Employee owners provide feedback, ideas, and solutions regarding client offerings and company culture. Current leadership furthers this mission, visiting with staff regularly and leading monthly all hands meetings.
