We had a good lunch here (eggs, bruschetta). Place was nothing too fancy but the food was tasty, and we got a table on a busy Sunday.

Very friendly service and great food! Probably the best coffee I have had outside Auckland. Good place for lunch or brunch!

I was abroad for several months already, and I was badly homesick. Every single French person would tell you the same thing: what they really miss when they're abroad is French food and especially French bread and bakery. (also saucisson, and cheese) One day, some friends of mine showed me this very special place. I was skeptical first, because you can't find true real French bakeries abroad easily. Usually you find croissants which don't taste like croissants in France T___T! I'm not saying there'nt good, just saying that they taste different. But when I came closer I could see the little sticker on the door "Artisan boulanger". Startled I yelled :"no way!!! It's a real French bakery!!" A huge smile on my face, I ordered croissants, pies, Florentins comme à la maison! They taste just like the ones I could buy in France. Such a good quality, such a delight! (*o*) I deeply recommend this place for all those who like French food or for those who just want to have a little taste of France.

The range is quite similar to others. I was expecting to see something outstanding with remarkable presentation and I saw a fairly simple 'deli' layout with table and chairs both inside and outside. We made our booking for 6pm, but turned at 5:30 for a drink before hand, and while I initially felt a bit weird seeing the place completely empty this forgotten pretty quick as within the hour the place was packed out, I couldn't see a single table spare. A good sign if all the locals come here. The staff here are very friendly and equally skilled in their roles, our waitress rattled off the daily specials without any problems and answered all our questions we had. Even when we kept asking for additional time before we made our choices did not seem to phase her. After our orders of Gralic Bread, Angus Prime Steak 300Grams with red wine potato mash (bit out there but I'll go with it), and some garlic mushrooms. We were surprised to be given a complimentary taste of Ginger Bread with melted blue cheese! A very unique food match, and to be quite honest I thought although very strange combination it actually tasted quite nice. Which is saying something because i'm not a huge fan on blue cheese! From the time we made our order to receiving it was just under 40 minutes with a full house guest.. quite a well oiled operation here for the Chef & the team to pull of this high level of service. When our steaks arrived I was visually impressed by the presentation of the steak & mentioned to my friend, that this is almost as good if not better than what I have experienced in Auckland and it was awesome to see little old Palmy (not so little as I was told as the population is around 80,000!) produce such a good plate of food. The only thing I could possibly comment on the food here is the red wine mash... looks like beetroot stained potato mash.. and neither my self or my friend could taste any red wine here or anything for that matter. The sauces provided made up for this & although it does look weird, it did not stop us from eating it all. The Garlic mushrooms were great, you got that mushroom taste with a hint of garlic that wasn't too over powering. My friend did comment that she would have liked 100x more garlic, but that's purely because she is garlic mad! Lastly after all that, I was feeling full but as always my one weakness on the desert menu is Creme Brule.. I just love the stuff and always if a place is offering this on their menu, I will no doubt order it. The brule here was great.. nice crunchy brule and an equally smooth vanilla creme with a sweet after taste. Overall my self & my friend were very pleased with our choices & the high level of service with a great atmosphere of people made this a highlight of my visit to this town. I will have this place written down on my black list for places to visit when passing through.. hopefully sometime soon! I have marked them the following; Food 4/5 - Presentation was spot on. Service 5/5 - Highest Rating possible - even with a full house, there were no delays and the staff were great. Price - 4/5 Total Bill for 2 starters, 2 Mains, 2 Deserts & 2 Glasses of wine came to $120.00 - Which is pretty good in comparison to other venues. Atmosphere - 4/5 Overall 4.25/5 - If you are ever passing through Palmerston North & looking for a great place to eat with a matching wait staff & atmosphere .. make sure you stop by Aberdeen on Broadway.. The cabinet food looks brilliant and their new cabinet slice, cheekily named "2am in Wangas" is likely to cause a rarkus with the straight edge liberals amongst us. If you have a sweet tooth, their silk cake is famous in Palmerston North, though I prefer the Banoffee Pie. Seating options are good, inside can be a touch crowded during busy periods, though their outdoor seating is brilliant on a sunny day - If you are a taller individual target an outdoor seat with metal legs as opposed to the black plastic variety as the latter seem to be about an inch too high for the height of their tables. Cafe Cuba is one of my absolute favourites for atmosphere, perfect for an informal gathering with friends, the Cuban Marxist Revolutionary vibe is evident in the Art, Decor and in the names of some food items (Marx Slice). One can imagine Fidel or Guevara sitting comfortably in a corner plotting revolution over a Vege Bene. Unfortunately for Cafe Cuba there is absolutely no consistency in the quality of their coffee, sometimes it is great, other times it is truely terrible. Today was one of those terrible occasions, the Long Black was so damn bitter it had to be replaced and the replacement was equally bitter - It truely is a shame given how simple it is to purge a coffee machine in order to extract a decent Long Black with the full bodied flavour one craves (which I tend to tip for). Hopefully Cafe Cuba can rectify this Cafinated travesty in future, as one bad experience will not put me off a cafe but unfortunately today I can only award a very generous 3 stars for this visit - see you another day team!

FLAVOURS are also family friendly - no PUNGENT stuff the young ones cannot handle - but it's TASTY and satisfying. Restaurant is slightly dated - tis clean and comfortable - again family oriented we noted clients aged 8 - 80 and 'owners' 3 - 73. Best dish was ordered TWICE as our 8 year old LOVED the chicken pieces - crispy tasty morsels which hit HER SWEET SPOT - she's a connessieur of nuggets. I liked the Korean beef hot platter served on a cast iron sizzler - the large was GENEROUS - enough for a takeaway portion. Also favoured was the roti with chicken curry ala Malaysia and the pot stickers - a pork version Northern Chinese style. The uber eats drivers were coming and going - a lively take out biz popular with this student town of Palmerston North - home of Massey University. Highest recommendations when y'all want a cheap n cheerful night out. Value good about 25nzd p/p included dessert and we all were SATIated and carried out a doggy bag. Again - we love the FAMILY BIZ - under attack this year - and prefer to SUPPORT a GREAT one like this. Blessings upon THE BEAN CAFE - Palmerston North , Manawatu, N. Island New Zealand.

The cafe has standard fare with some interesting ones that are wraps or baked goods (sweet & non-sweet). It's decent food, I liked the muesli cake (or whatever it was called), and you can have your sweets (like my cake) come with a side of chocolate (syrup) and whip cream to top it with. The best way to enjoy this place, especially for 1st time visitors is to also check out the museum and the chocolate shop. The museum gives an informative history of chocolate. The chocolate shop is decent like visiting any boutique chocolate shop, pretty good chocolate. What I liked best is their (recent) offering of fudge (candy, not chocolate fudge). I bought mint chocolate, some coconut flavor, and cookies & creme. They are pretty good, not too thick (unless you eat the whole bar w/o slicing it up), not overly creamy, not too sweet, and not too hard nor overly gummy like Starburst candy, just the right balance of creamy texture and sweetness. And my tour guide told me the fudge is a way for visitors who are chocolate intolerant to still be able to enjoy something there. The fudge is a must try unless you like Starburst style fudge or thick dry peanut buttery type chocolate fudge.
