Cold winter's day July 1 along busy George Street, parking a tad tuff round 530pm, seated in a cozy rear table under a massive heat pump in the cavernous big ol' restaurant/ cafe = we were there for evening meal - a couple and a nine year old. Scratch made food on the dinner menu still - slipped a notch from a decade ago - based on yesterday's experience - a 4 rather than previous 5 star - but better than 'ok' duck - missed a couple of our orders - forgot one completely and 'switched' calamari into slightly rubbery prawns - coffees were superb - kiddie meal of chicken n chips was better than ours. Service is spotty - occasional bright stars - but again NOT at the TOP level of year's past - we've been coming here a LONG time. I was abroad for several months already, and I was badly homesick. Every single French person would tell you the same thing: what they really miss when they're abroad is French food and especially French bread and bakery. (also saucisson, and cheese) One day, some friends of mine showed me this very special place. I was skeptical first, because you can't find true real French bakeries abroad easily. Usually you find croissants which don't taste like croissants in France T___T! I'm not saying there'nt good, just saying that they taste different. But when I came closer I could see the little sticker on the door "Artisan boulanger". Startled I yelled :"no way!!! It's a real French bakery!!" And it was really worth of visiting this lovely, quirky, funny, lively, strangely beautiful little restaurant. Staff is funny, helpful and in a very positive way crazy.
