    Bruise #2

I don't normally write reviews, especially negative ones but this was just ...so.bad. I want to start by saying they did an excellent job of maintaining good measures for COVID. I didn't care that it was not the nicest place in the world but I also could barely communicate with anyone there. The women at the front desk asked me three times what my name is and if I had an appointment (I did and was 10 min early). She showed me where to go sit in the massage area and so I did. A man rushed by to get his PPE (mask and visor) and then 5 min later reappeared with a foot bin full of room temperature water that did not look or feel like anything was in it. He didn't greet me in any way and just told me to sit on the ottoman and put my feet in the bin. It was just really awkward to have a complete stranger that is providing such a personal level of service not even really speak to you before or during the services were being provided. I was super uncomfortable. Aside from that, the shoulder and back massage made me feel even more awkward because he just checked in and say "this ok?" (As in is this pressure ok). When I said yes I like a lot of pressure and not soft, he suddenly lighted the pressure to very soft. So I had to say oh I'm sorry I said I like pressure and he went back to hard pressure. I think I'm very understanding to language barriers but he did not have basic conversational English. I work out and consider myself strong but this little man full on destroyed my back and arms. Three days later and I am still so sore that I have a tension headache. I don't know that he has proper massage training because never in my life have I gotten a deep tissue massage that has left me feeling this way. I also have bruises on my arm...the foot massage was weird, awkward, and not relaxing at all. Instead of feeling relaxed, I felt so uncomfortable and couldn't wait to leave. Worst. Experience. Ever.

As it says in other reviews they work the back and neck while your feet soak, this loosens up a lot of tension in that area.

I have been there twice, and I will be back! My four stars is a strong recommendation. There is room for improvement. I reserve five stars for places that are opulent, or offer extraordinary value. Although I am a long term customer of a competitive establishment, I am preferring Sunrise. What a welcome I received! Loving me some sunrise next week!

The lighting in the room was soft and relaxing. When my I lay my face on the table, I could smell the soft, clean sheets. Zoe started working on my shoulder pain and after a while, also recommended cupping. This was my first time trying this and I was a bit anxious but Zoe explained the process to me and progressed slowly. It was certainly a sensation I had not felt before but she checked with me throughout the process to ensure my comfort and desire to continue. Zoe is a true professional. After leaving her care, I felt cared for and respected. The pain in my back is gone and it has been a week since I saw her. I highly recommend Zoe and the services here. We need more places like this. 1. Relaxing atmosphere 2. Clean facility 3. Clean, fresh and soft sheets 4. Professional & knowledgable staff 5. Convenient parking

I don't get a massage to relax, I get a massage because my body needs work, and I know what I want done. Yes, there's a language barrier here with SOME of the employees, including the older Chinese man that came as a recommendation from a friend. But OMG. That guy (don't know his name) worked MAGIC!! I was suffering severely from sciatica, and muscles all over my body were stressed out and in so much pain... I must have $500 over 3 sessions with him, but it was worth penny. The first time I told him what I needed done, and he did it. the second and third times I didn't say anything and he just KNEW what to do, he KNEW where to work on me without me saying, and I didn't need the same places worked on as the first time. Every time I left there I felt like I was walking on a cloud... he worked on me an hour and a half the first time, and 2 hours the other times. I tip him really well because he's worth it. Haven't had anyone else, and don't plan to. be patient with the language barrier and ask for the old man... 6 stars, really.

Mandarin Healing Spa's good reviews were promising but the massage was one of the worst I've had in recent memory. First, my masseuse was extremely rough, almost sloppy, in terms of technique. There were several parts where she was just raking her elbow or her fist on my back mechanically instead of working out the knots/kinks. I'm not necessarily looking for Mandarin Oriental-level of care but I didn't care for the sensation of feeling like a dummy being whaled on. And I mean that literally - she was actually punching me at one point. Hygiene was also an issue. From the constant sniffles, it sounded like she had a cold and even sneezed but kept right on going (here's hoping she sneezed into her elbow and not on her hands ... still, you should go wash your hands). The bed itself was not comfortable. Again, not expecting a ton out of a no-frills spot but I do prefer not to have particle board under the head rest digging into my cheek. When I checked the mirror afterwards, I had a lovely vertical indent going down my face. The interaction at the end left an incredibly bad taste in my mouth. They're incredibly insistent that you pay the tip, if not the whole amount, in cash, which I can understand with very small businesses but I also would've appreciated a heads-up on the phone when I booked that using a credit card adds an extra $3.75 to the cost. Also, the manager was very pushy in asking for a 25% tip ($20 for a mediocre 60-minute $80 massage) and kept saying how most customers do $20 for an even $100. Regardless of how true that may be, a customer should be allowed to tip however much they want based on the experience they received, and, if it weren't for my desperation to take a shower and wash the germs off me, I would have stood firm. I've never had someone outright demand a higher tip and it was enough to make me never want to go back. Waste of $100.
