The rooms were technologically advanced and well equipped with every necessity you might need for a comfortable stay. The bathroom was spacious also. They have fluent English speaking staff so language is no problem. I called in for an iron and it was delivered almost immediately. The only down side is that it is not close to the main part of the town so the cab fare was pretty steep and finding a cab was a challenge also. We had to catch a flight and scheduled an uber ahead of time. Scheduling an Uber is your best bet if you have to reach somewhere on time like us.

There was confusion on the difference between a "naked" vs a standard room (lol). I wish this part was better explained on the website, but needless to say, my friend and I requested a switch for a standard room. For the inconvenience, they kindly offered a bottle of Prosecco on the house. The rooms are COLD. Thermostats were locked at a certain temperature, and despite fully locking our doors, it felt like cold air was still coming in. All the rooms on the second floor are exposed to an outdoor balcony, so ensuring the rooms are warm enough is key! The hotel is located a bit far from the city center (~30-min drive), though it is close to a bus stop. I guess this part isn't the fault of the hotel, but in hindsight, I would have picked a place closer to the center of Milan. Finally, the water temperature for both the sink and shower felt hard to control. I remembered the water either being piping hot, or icy cold (hardly a reasonable in-between), and it made taking a shower or even washing my hands feel uncomfortable. Overall, it wasn't the best (or the worst) experience. But there are reasons I'd want to stay elsewhere if I'm ever back in the future.

As a Diamond Hilton Honors Member, I'm used to experiencing perks when travelling at Hilton properties, I did not feel as valued as other properties here. I was unable to get an upgrade of any type during my stay, while the staff were great and tried their best, I wouldn't say I received the usual "Diamond" experience. The location of the hotel is in a business district of Milan, so it is a good 35-40 minute journey on the tram into the centre of the city, with services 1, 12 and 14 just a short walk away from the hotel, there is a small train station, Milano Certosa nearby as well as a couple of places to eat, including Joy's and McDonald's, in terms of getting food essentials for the room, there are branches of LIDL and Penny Market within walking distance. Tram tickets can be purchased from the hotel reception, or many tobacconists around the city, I did find them hard to obtain, so I would suggest stocking up on them from reception, as they last 90 minutes once validated after boarding the tram, and can then be used on any AMT service including the Metro and buses. Be aware, that when purchasing from the hotel, the only accepted payment method is cash. No cards or charging to the room accepted! I arrived at the hotel late in the evening, I was originally unhappy with my first room, I found it to be small, dark and miserable, after asking for a room change, the only other room type offered was a disabled room, the room was a slight improvement, it was slightly brighter, larger and I ended up opting for this one. The bathroom in this room was awful, unlike the standard room it lacked a bidet, and the shower was very difficult to use, as if you moved the lever too far to one side, you'd be hit with ice-cold water in the middle of a hot shower! The room had basic and acceptable facilities, there was a kettle for coffee and tea (sadly no coffee machine), a mini-fridge, a desk, and an opening window. The bed was comfortable, as standard, like one, would find at any Doubletree property. The hotel does need to work at improving technology to modernise the hotel, this was the first time in years of staying in Hilton properties that I was unable to check in via the HHonors app, after asking a staff member, they were very confused and told me they did not offer this service. Digital Key is also not offered. The staff in the hotel seemed friendly and happy to help and resolve any issues that I did come across, most of the staff members spoke basic English which helped out a lot too. Housekeeping is available upon request, however on the final day of my trip, despite requesting housekeeping they forgot to visit my room, as 24-7 housekeeping is not available and they had gone home by 7 pm, I had to request a room change, which was provided. They again provided me with a disabled room, but for some reason despite being the same room type, and just 5 rooms down from my previous room, it was very different again as the windows wouldn't open and the bedside lights would not turn fully off, so I couldn't remove a faint light, almost like a night-light while I was sleeping, presumably to draw in mostiquos, who made a mess of my arms anyway! There were plenty of plug sockets around the room, sadly no USB charging as advertised though. I would have liked a set of plug sockets closer to the TV, sadly I was unable to use my Fire Stick during my stay. Breakfast is served until 10 am, daily, even on the weekends, I find this way too early, especially on a weekend. My guest and I both had problems with breakfast, the food quality was not good at all, the selection was poor, and the eggs were dry and bland, even the fruit juice tasted watered down, and certainly wasn't fresh. I probably wouldn't stay here again mainly down to the number of minor problems I experienced, and the location just seemed way too far out for my liking. I was also confused with the lack of consistency across the rooms, even with a similar or the same room type. 3* mainly down to excellent service, value and comfortable beds.

We had a standard room with 2 beds but it happened to be the handicap room so the bathroom wasn't the best. The shower was small and only had curtains so the entire floor would get wet when you took a shower. The toilet was also high and the seat weird. The safe in our room was also broken and we couldn't use it our entire stay. The mirror door to our closet was also cracked and that concerned us but no one got injured. The room did have complimentary WiFi which was nice. We had breakfast once and dinner once at the restaurant during our stay. We also did one night of room service which took longer than anticipated when considering ordering in (55 mins). There really isn't much around the hotel so the restaurant is your only option if you're at the hotel. Most of the staff was nice and helpful but a few were a little abrasive. The hotel website said they do currency exchange but apparently not usd to euro. The website and multiple reviews mentioned a shuttled. We did see the shuttle parked out front but I guess it's not in use because it was never offered to us even when trying to make arrangements to get to the airport the day we checked out. That too was an issue. We were given a bus schedule and told if we showed it to the taxi driver he would know where to go. That did NOT work. Our taxi driver took us straight to the airport and we ended up paying at least 3xs what we were planning on spending to get to the airport. A big reason we booked this hotel was because it stated there was a shuttle. That seems to be a lie and we had to take taxis everywhere. In the future I would stay somewhere else but if there are no other options then I don't mind staying here again.

When traveling through Italy, we were stopping in Milan and stayed at the Melia Milano which is on…read morethe outskirts of the city near the football stadium and near the Lotto metro stop. From this stop, it would take about 15 mins to get to the city center and about 20mins to get to the main train station. From the outside the hotel looks big, and I found out later that the hotel is in a converted bakery factory hence the large size. As you enter the hotel, you enter into this massive lobby with high ceilings and a grand staircase in the middle. To the left is the check-in desk and a waiting area and to the right is the bar and restaurant. Up the stairs is the first floor which contains the meeting rooms, the Melia lounge, as well as guest rooms. The first thing I noticed when I entered the room is that despite the large size of the hotel and the massive lobby, the hotel rooms were somewhat smaller and more compact than I expected. As you entered the room, on the left was the entrance to the bathroom while on the right was a little wall that ended as you entered into the main part of the room. The bathroom was decent but also compact and contained a toilet, bidet, sink with minimal counter space, and a walk-in shower. The toiletries were refillable and had handwash and lotion next to the sink with body wash, shampoo and conditioner in the shower; the basic amenities were there but the space was more compact and restricted. In the room, on the right was a stand with shelves for storage and then continuing on the right was a nook with an open closet and open luggage rack. The luggage rack and open closet was a nice touch but there was minimal storage space as the open rack and the shelves were the only storage. In the main part of the room, the king-size bed was along with right side of the wall and on each side of the bed was a table with a lamp on it and plugs behind it along with USB ports. The bed was decent enough for the first night but was a bit uncomfortable towards the third night but overall provided a decent sleep. The tables next to the bed were somewhat small so again it did the job but space was limited. Across from the bed, along the left side of the wall, was the TV mounted on the wall and in the corner a table with chairs. The table and chairs was a nice touch to have but again it was a small table so could barely have two people eating or drinking at the same time. Overall it was a decent room with the necessary amenities but the space was more compact than I expected for a suburb hotel. The hotel is a full-service hotel so has lots of amenities including a hotel bar, restaurant, meeting rooms, hotel lounge, a gym, and wifi. The wifi was decent and you could connect as many devices as you want but it did slow down sometimes and was not always the most reliable. I did not try the bar nor restaurant but did see lots of people going there so it seemed popular. Overall, it was not an impressive stay at Melia Milano. This hotel was outside the city and is in a former factory so one would expect bigger rooms but the size of this room is what you would expect at a hotel closer to the city. The customer service was also lacking as we connected with the front desk staff many times and throughout my interactions only staff person was actually nice and helpful while the others barely did their job and barely provided any support.

First of all - location is totally fine. It doesn't seem that wonderful, but the hotel is about a block from the train station and we didn't feel weird at all walking around at night or on the train. The hotel has free parking, but it is a very very tiny parking lot with not a lot of room, so if you have a larger car - beware (or ask them to help you park). Check in was rather easy, and the person at the desk was quite friendly. I was there with my college and he did end up confusing our rooms which caused some confusion later with the keys, but it wasn't a big deal (though it might have been in a different situation if we had booked different sized rooms). There is a person to help with the bags and he was also quite friendly, but I did get the impression that they preferred to bring our bags up for us vs us carrying them. However, since the elevators are super tiny, I'm not sure we all would have fit with our bags. There are also some steps to the elevators, so the luggage wasn't really easy to handle anyway. The decor in the lobby is a bit RED, but it looks comfortable enough and I think there is also a small bar in the back. When we came back after dinner, there was also a fire which made it cozy. On to the rooms...they are pretty small. We had actually booked larger rooms and then when we checked in, we seem to have been given the smaller room (either size was small, but this was like 12 sq m I think?). They did not charge us for larger rooms, but I would have liked to know this when we checked in to double confirm what room we were supposed to have. We had specifically booked specific room sizes. Actually, nothing was confirmed with us when we checked in - they just took our passports and then gave us keys. It was fine for one night, but if you are staying longer, I would suggest a larger room (I would assume the bathrooms are a bit larger as well). The amenities are not what I would consider 4 star - but in Europe, the star ratings are not the same as in the US. It was clean (though, the corners of the shower had a little mold in mine - otherwise, the room was totally spotless). Checkout was quick, but we had some issues as we needed specific information on our invoices and they refused to reprint them for us. They said they didn't know how and had messed up a bunch of information. It was kind of annoying that they didn't seem to want to help us, but when you're traveling for work - we need things a certain way and I found them to be less than helpful. Overall, it was a fine stay and for one night on the way to the airport, it was ok. However, if I were returning on vacation, I would stay in a hotel with larger rooms and more amenities.

The rooms were clean and did have nice modern touches everywhere. I really liked the heated towel rack - that's a really nice touch. They also had great toiletries. Top notch stuff. The staff spoke great English, and were happy to hold our bags when we checked out. It wasn't too close to the city center or Duomo, but there was a street car stop right outside that took you to all the important places you might need to go. Really my only complaint is breakfast. Not because it was a bad breakfast (it was by far the most amazing, lavish, well rounded buffet breakfast I've ever had), but because it seemed like it was included in the room rate during check in ("breakfast is served between 7-11"), and when we went to breakfast ("room number, please"). Turns out it was 20 euros each. Pretty steep for breakfast - though it was a great breakfast.

The staff are fairly friendly. There are some decent restaurants in the area. In other words, if you're looking for a cheap place to crash while you travel around aggressively (like I did), this place works. In terms of airport access, I took the train to Cardona to the 1 trolley/cable car, which stops front-right of the station's main entrance. The hotel is only a block away once you disembark. This method is effective but a bit time-consuming. For my return, I figured out that the express buses make not-well-advertised stops near an expo site (Fiera Milano City) on Viale Teodorico. It's about a simple 10 minute walk from the hotel to the bus stops, so I found this far more convenient than trekking south to the train stations just to go back north to the Malpensa airport. :: Area Amenities :: Not much in this immediate area, which on Yelp is known as Monumentale. A restaurant that was recommended by the front desk even was a good 20 minute walk towards the Chinatown area past Via Losanna. You'll find most of the interesting food choices south of Piazza Firenze. Even finding a convenience store to pick up bottles of water was not so obviously convenient. :: Hotel Amenities :: Except for the atrium that takes you from street level to lobby level, there's a tiny 2-person elevator that can take you between all floors. We were located on the 1st floor (2nd story), so we didn't have to go far anyway. The stairwells are wide and have automatic lights. The lobby is spacious with sofas, a TV, two computers, and a printer if I recall. The breakfast room in the basement isn't huge, but it's enough. A very basic continental breakfast is offered, but beware in advance of pricing. As noted in my tip, I thought breakfast was complimentary, but it's only comp with a voucher sign-up online (something to which I received no instructions about how to access). Since there was no signage indicating prices for the service and no one who collected each morning, I assumed it was complimentary. (Insert idiom about assuming here.) Day of checkout, I find out that they were charging breakfast to the room bill for anyone who basically walked into the dining area (even if you didn't eat). I point this out because one morning I came down to collect my travel partner and did NOT fix a plate for myself to eat, but was still charged. Seeing as I think the breakfast offering is barely worth 5€, I nitpicked about that charge and got it removed from the final bill. I just don't like surprises though, and the Milan Expo City Tax was another one of those surprises that got added on at the end of my stay. I knew about it from advance research, but assumed (ha ha) it was included in my Priceline booking. Remind me to never make any assumptions again, nor skip interrogating the front desk upon arrival. :: Room Amenities :: On a more positive note, the room was basic, but sufficient. The entryway is a narrow and blocks simultaneous entrance to the bathroom, but once inside, there's definitely enough space for the frugal 2-person travel group. The bathroom was very clean with sufficient shelving space to store stuff. The shower stall is tight and has a funny plastic pull curtain/divider thing, but again, nothing you can't get over for the price. The beds were not squishy, but not too stiff either, and there was enough covers to stay warm. Mini-fridge and TV were a plus, even if the remote is impossible to figure out. Our particular room overlooked nothing but a wall and thus received no natural light, but again this is fine for travelers who should be outdoors exploring anyway. The last thing I can think of is that the walls are nowhere near soundproof, but our chatty neighbors were in bed before midnight anyway, so no problems there either. :: Conclusion :: Solid choice that at first I thought was a steal for the sub $100/night price. But had I factored in all the final bill costs, I might have elected a similar-range / star hotel closer to the historic center.
