I tried the Indonesian, béarnaise and the piccallily sauces..with the winner being the béarnaise. I also ordered tartare, which was tasty, not too expensive & a generous portion. For a chain it's pretty good. I have yet to try any of their burgers, I just wanted to eat some fries since I very much missed my Belgische friet. Next time I'm going to order a burger & update my review accordingly.

That said, any sort of eatery catches my attention and leads to some analysis, with Thai, Indian, and sushi being immediate write-offs. (I know that probably makes me uncool, but I'm okay with your not liking that.) Pamplemousse is an interesting word. It sounds like it could be an exotic and expensive dessert. Pamplemousse is just the French word for grapefruit. I don't know why they named it as such and it doesn't matter. However, it's mostly a breakfast and lunch place, so I planned to go on another day and did so. There is a counter with a glass case showing some options with things Quebecois - some crusted pies and other items. The apparent owner was very friendly and I can't remember if I started the order upon approaching the counter or if it was taken at the table. Most of the patrons eating here appeared to be local folks, which is always a good sign. Again, I ordered a club sandwich that came with potatoes. To drink, I had a Coke Zero. What I immediately noticed was that there was bottled water right at the table. For Quebec being a slice of Europe in North America, this certainly contrasted with Europe where you have to pay for quality drinking water, even though it is reasonably priced. This platter made for a tasty and filling lunch, with sensible pricing and excellent and prompt service. Everything about the Cafe Pamplemousse experience was very good, with the welcoming service standing out. Additionally, it's about 4 blocks from the intersection of Sherbrooke and Berri, yet not quite priced like things that would be in immediate proximity to that landmark intersection. The front of their menu at the time of my visit also indicated breakfast and lunch hours seven days a week. If it sounds like a winner, it is.
