Great place for Tex-Mex just minutes from UGA. I wish they had more outdoor seating, but it is what is. Food was wonderful. I had a steak bowl and my wife & daughter enjoyed a chicken quesadilla. Chips, queso, and house made salsa were fantastic. The server was relatively new on the job, but did great. We were out the door for less than $30. Will be back for more! read more

I went to the Five Points, Lumpkin location and paid extra for guacamole and sour cream. There was NO guacamole on the burrito. Two burritos, nothing special, were over $30!! Won't be going back. read more

I was up here for a tournament in which they were a large sponsor of. Inside the bags were coupons for some of their signature items. The owner, who is also a good player spoke highly of his food, and gave me some history on his start in the business, which was very intriguing. I decided to give the food a try after playing and found myself pretty hungry. The location in Athens is very close to the town center, which the tournament was being held at. (about 1/2 mile away) The location from the outside is a very dingy looking place, as is the inside. The staff were full of kids that didn't seem like they were busy and were more for playing on their phones than helping others. When i presented the coupon to them, the guy behind the counter said 'ok, you can get WHATEVER you want then...' which was surprising to me, since the coupon said specifically what it was good for (a healthier choice). I ended up getting a 'bowl'. Being a person who has allergies, I asked the staff to change their gloves, as they just served someone prior to me using them on dairy. He questioned me 2x before finally changing the gloves. When I told him the ingredients I wanted in the bowl - rice, a very small amount of black beans (which he ended up giving me a heaping spoonful of), lettuce, tomatoes, chicken, jalapenos (picked and fresh), pico de Gallo, and a few other items...they were all jumbled together, making the dish look quite messy. The chips that they offer for free is a nice touch, however they are VERY THIN and have 0 flavor to them. in addition, when taking them out, they use a scooper, but also the guy handled a few that fell out with his bare hands! What made me a little uneasy on the location as well as the cross contamination of some of the items...the tomatoes and lettuce had cheese spilled into them. They didn't seem to wear gloves when handling the money versus providing the free chips, and the non caring attitude compared to similar chains (such as Chipotle or Mos). Also, they don't know anything about the sauces - as I asked which is the spiciest one, and they pointed me to it, however it was the most mild flavored sauce i had ever had. (i think it was more tomato based than anything else) I know that they have heavy competition with others around the area, but if you are going to try and stand out among the others, you may want to act like them as well! greet the guests, show that you actually care, and even be sanitary! (you don't need 3 people behind the counter if it is not that busy! have someone clean the areas around the food prep). I do wish my experience was better here, especially knowing owner, but I guess after owning so many locations, some just fall through the cracks. read more

I am only giving this place (the Clayton St. location) 2 stars just based on the food that I had. The staff was actually wonderful and helped me along as this was my first time here. But then, like some previous reviewers, I realized that this was pretty much like Chipotle's. So starting with the good. The chips they serve along with your "meal" were good. 2 different varieties. Just basic on what you can buy in a store. Good salty taste. The tomatillo salsa was good as well. Cant go wrong with both the sweet and unsweetened tea. Now the bad. I tried the jerk fish burrito since it was on special. And that was a mistake, It just didnt taste good. Just no flavoring and not sure what kind of fish they used. It actually ruined the whole burrito. Now dont get me wrong, their other selections could be good. And I would be willing to go back and give them another shot. if I do, I will be sure to order the steak or chicken. read more

When I was working in Athens, this was definitely one of my favorite places to go for lunch when I was downtown. I would usually pick either the nachos of the heavy D burrito but either one would always have the spicy chicken. I would like to point out that the one downtown is the only Barberitos in Athens that doesn't pre-make the spicy chicken. They take the cooked chicken and throw it back on the flat top with the hot sauce so it is hot and seared in every time. I even asked the manager to through some jerk seasoning on there as well since I knew they kept it behind the counter for cooking the fish on Friday. Let's just say, that is my go to every time I am there. All of the ingredients are fresh and make a real good burrito or nachos every time. This is usually one of my first stops for lunch whenever I am back in town for some reason. read more

I eat here at least three days a week. Its great. They have the greatest tomatillo sauce in the history of tomatillo sauce. I am considering bringing a mason jar and asking to purchase a jar full. I always get a chicken quesadilla but they also have good burritos and shockingly good tofu. Also they have 11 cent taco day, I think its on tuesday but I am not one percent on that. read more

I cannot say enough wonderful things about this location and Keith their manager. I have used them for the past few years to cater a luncheon and they are always on time, super professional and the food is amazing!!! If you are looking for someone to cater an event for you, Keith is your guy! The taco bar that he sets up has something for everyone and it's all really fresh. Fast and easy place to get the best tasting burritos out of the burrito chains that are out there. Great customer service to where the guys making the food are having fun and sort of dancing to the music while making food. My burrito did tear when they were rolling it up which caused them to pour the insides on another shell. While doing so, I assume it lost all the sour cream that was placed on it, because I could not taste any in my burrito. Great place, just not the greatest burrito I had there this time sadly. It is pricey just to eat by yourself too. If my burrito didn't lose it's sour cream, then this would have been a 5. read more

Lets start out with the fact that I don't live in Athens, so the fact that this place is a favorite among locals doesn't really mean anything to me. While the food was ok and service was fine, this restaurant didn't really wow me in any way. I ordered a steak bowl, and it tasted kinda bland. Not to say it wasn't good, the pico was better than most, but it lacked a wow factor. It didn't stand out against a Moe's or a Chipotle. Not to mention that it was a little too expensive for what it was, a blander version of Moe's. Definitely a place whose popularity is disproportionate to its quality. It's not horrible, it's just basically a clone to Qdoba and similar eateries--go in, get some quasi-fresh ingredients in a wrap or without one, and eat. The prices are fairly cheap, but the quality of the ingredients hasn't much impressed me. It also gets incredibly busy during lunch time in the fall and spring semesters. read more

I've been to two locations: Epps Bridge and Lumpkin. I greatly prefer the Epps Bridge site, where the staff is more friendly and the food tastes better. I love the giant burritos and usually order the super vegetarian, minus the rice. The meals are filling and somehow elude duplication, even if I buy the same ingredients and try it at home. Good burritos, big selection of ingredients, and a super value if you ditch the sour cream and guac. While their commitment to fresh ingredients is obvious, I'd take their new healthy tangent more seriously if the sodium content of their food didn't immediately give me a headache. When we came back to Athens to visit family, my husband insisted on stopping at Al's Beef downtown. As suspected, it was not vegetarian friendly. When I asked the woman behind the counter if there were any vegetarian restaurants nearby, she drew a blank. So I walked right next door and stumbled across Barberitos. Half the menu advertised vegetarian and vegan. Hallelujah! The vegan burrito was as big as my head and very, very tasty. My son had a smaller size chicken burrito and that was a big hit. The service was fast, friendly and helpful. They were also extremely patient as it took my son forever to decide what he wanted. My only critique was the salsa was way too salty and the side tortilla chips were a little greasy. Minor things really. All in all, two thumbs way up. read more

I really enjoy eating here once a week and the management is super nice. I do think it could be even better if Barberito's would season their proteins. The chicken is very bland. Some new sauces would help and a better selection of salad dressings. Recently the chain revamped its menu and pricing structure. It is now 99 cents extra for guac and $1.49 extra for guac and sour cream. Needless to say, that's way overpriced so I skip both. Lunch shouldn't cost $10 but it does if you get a wrap with guac or sour cream and a fountain beverage. The music is usually nice but the TV's are almost always set to some boring sports. read more

If this place weren't so FRIKKIN DISKUSTING!!!!! I wouldn't have such a negative review. THe guacamole was WAY TO FRIKKIN salty, like they salted it way TOO MUCH!!!! And the chicken was WAY OVERCOOked!!! like medium well!!!! I like my chicken rare, but I guess some people have NO TASTE!!!! The cook obviously has never worked for a GOOD restaurant.
