Tim Piper has cut my hair ever since I moved to Oakland in September. He is, hands down, the best Barber I've ever meet. I have my brothers wedding next weekend and there is no one else I'd trust more to make me look my best. Did I mention he cut my brothers hair too (the groom)? Finding a good barber is very difficult, especially if you have a changing hairline. As I have thinning hair - you know the male pattern baldness thing - It seems that most hairstylists have a problem with the fact that I do not want a combover. Seriously, most stylists try to give me a combover! Tim is the best. He has consistently made me look good. He works with the fine hair I have and keeps me looking hip. Tim is a barber in the truest "old school" sense in that he does a full shave as well. It's very relaxing to lie back and have the full lotion, hot towel, straight razor shave, and after-shave moisturizer treatment. I get pampered - like a manly man should be. Nice to have a Barber of such quality and friendliness right in Old Oakland. Have gotten some gentleman's cuts and a shave. Tim's haircuts are great not only because they are nice right out of the shop, but also because they continue to look styled even after growing out. This is especially impressive given my hair, which is quite straight and tends to fall forward. With Tim's cut, it manages to stay parted to the side even without product. Probably the best barber I know of around the area. He's great to talk to and has great rates. Returning customers get a nice discount for touch up buzz/fades which are 10-15. He understands that some people want to maintain their undercuts and need their sides every two weeks and keep what they have on top the same. This rate helps a lot. Normal haircuts are 20-25. He even gives a free comb for first time customers. I've been here around 5-6 times and they were all impecable services. I had no appointment two of the times and he rearranged his schedule one timr to fill me in since I had a wedding to go to. One time I had a minor problem with my hair ( I realized the next day, i texted him and he told me to come by within the hour. He fixed it really quick and i was on my way. Compared to the hair cuts I got in the area before, Ive noticed he takes cares of his tools very well. He is very knowledgable about being a barber. That barber is Tim Piper. I called today to check availability and he was able to squeeze me in. The shop is calming, modern. Nice tunes playing in the background. The verdict, a great hair cut and experience from Tim. He was a joy to chat with, and like others have said the eucalyptus hot towel treatment and shampoo was a nice touch. I'm sure he's a great barber, but I received the worst haircut of my life. Maybe he was just having an off day, but this was horrible timing. (3 days before Christmas). Showed him a picture that one of his clients posted here on Yelp, and mine looked nothing like it. The worst part was that he shaved some hair from that part on the side of your head next to your eyebrows. Don't know why he shaved that part, but it wasn't even a straight line. Also there was all around uneven haircut. Ended up going to another haircut place an hour after to fix a lot of things. Now I have to go buy a few hats and beanies until it grows back to a somewhat manageable hair style. :/ read more

I was on the phone when my boyfriend arrived home with his new haircut. Gasp! I mouthed the words, "Oh my god; I LOVE it!" and hung up as quickly as I could to get a look from every angle, in every room. Most cuts look too short the day of the cut and eventually grow out to look pretty good before they just go right back to being too short. This cut was perfect day-of with a little length here, a perfectly clipped angle there, all of it effortlessly cool and refined at the same time. There is now no other barber for my guy. I've lived in other several cities and have generally been content with but not overly excited about the barbers I've interacted with. Tim surpassed my expectations and left me feeling like a better person. Booking was quick and easy. I showed up this afternoon, gave him a slightly vague idea of what I wanted, and he went straight to work. He knows how to converse well while keeping focused on the cut. Also, his comments about how nice my hair was to work with were sincere and really nice to hear! In short, I got exactly what I was looking for but even better than I could have imagined! He even had the foresight to not sharply cut the edge above my neck, as most other barbers would opt to. I've been going to the same barber for close to 18 years. But as I moved farther and farther away over the years, I've been looking for someone new. Every time I tried a new place, I walked away disappointed or pissed off. But Tim had some good reviews and was close to my new office, so I thought I'd risk it and give him a try. In short: Tim will now be my new barber. Excellent haircut. I didn't feel like he was rushing me through or that he was going through the motions. He was taking his time and doing a great job. Just had my first appointment with Tim this morning and already feel comfortable giving him five stars. I signed up for an appointment online, and this morning walked in and sat right down in his chair. I did not have a specific cut in mind, but told Tim generally what I was looking for and asked him what he thought would look good. He took it from there and gave me an amazing haircut. On top of that, he only charged me $15 since he only cut on the sides, and did not do much on top.
