Nice guy, has the potential to do an okay job on a low maintenance low expectation male cut, however he butchered my undercut. Insisted on a design which was absolutely the worst and accidentally cut off baby hairs I tuck behind my ears with his clippers which is now an inconvenience, luckily my hair grows fast. He was cheap and very kind, however I'll take my overpriced cuts over this, ouch. I'm embarrassed to walk around

My husband sees James and I see kim for my nail needs but I have been meaning to see one of the sweet ladies that do hair soon. James is a funny, charismatic man that gets the job done and makes his customers looj better than when they walked in. My husband goes in for his hair cut and he gets his scruffy beard shaved this place is a great location and reminds me of the local barbershops my dad used to tell me about. Kim does an awesome job with my nails she is very detailed in her work and great at listening to what you want done. The manicures are relaxing and so is the pedicure, my feet feel smooth and soft as well as pretty after a visit to her.

Seriously worst haircut place for kids!!!!! Took forever and was very uncomfortable with the big do go by the door and her education on how to cut a kids hair just sad! Horrible and strange vacuuming the hair while your cutting is not legally okay such crazy noise sucking by your head read more

7 years since my original review and I wouldn't change a thing. Even though I am currently a college student and only in town every few months, James is always the barber I visit. He does a great job, keeps a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and has good prices. I will definitely keep coming back when I move back home after school! Heads up: he moved relatively recently, so be sure to give him a call to get the new address or directions if you need them! read more

Who would think that my hair for my son's wedding would be done by a barber?? James did an EXCELLENT job cutting and styling my hair. He's funny, has great customer service and truly loves his family. The TOP BARBER around. Great environment. You can play darts, or use the massage chair while you wait. I'm very particular on who cuts my hair. I was going to my previous stylist for 15 years, now I've been going to James for 15+ years. You will not find a better barber than James in Sacramento. read more

Walk-in & was on the hunt for a new barber around town James was great . Nice guy. Very nice barber. Very busy. Very generous: full massage chair?! Refreshments! TV. Magazines, board games, darts?! And very clean. Clipper has built-in vacuum to minimize any small itchy hairs from catching on your inside collar. (No need to wait until weekends or after work to get my cuts.) read more

Ive been coming to James for about 15yrs. Hes been doing my hair since my teens. Now my son goes to him and many many others I have recommended. The shop is truly amazing. You feel very comfortable and have good people there to converse with. The decor is also pretty awesome. Soo many amenities to choose from not just a cut and go. Hes very good with kids and knows how to put them at ease. Highly recommend this place to any guy or gal!!! read more

My husband and son have been getting their hair cut at Matthews for several years. They followed James, the owner, from his former location when it was just a plain old barber shop. James is always welcoming and friendly and his shop is always busy (which is a good thing). Once Matthews moved and expanded to service women as well I started going there because my hairstylist started working there. Matthews offers several services to both men and women, it's a place definitely worth checking out! read more

Fast, friendly, and at a good price! It doesn't hurt that the haircut was excellent, either. I was only passing through town, so it's lucky that I came across this place. James was lots of fun to talk to, and his vacuum clippers kept the whole process really tidy. At the end, a head and neck massage -- now that's how you do it! read more

I have been coming to Matthews Barber Shop for many years! I always get excellent service never had a bad haircut and I always enjoy the scalp massage afterwards!! James is normally my barber but today he was super busy packed with clients so I was offered somebody knew her name is Lauren, Super happy to have someone new to have conversations with during the haircut. I think he messed up my hairline and top of my hair and gave me the wrong cut but he wants 18 for a cut very unprofessional I gave him 20$ just cause he was a nice man but he needs to practice a little read more

After over a year of going to Matthew's I wanted to share that I have continued to be impressed by and grateful for the A+ service I receive every time I visit. Today I was helped by a new barber named Blade (which, let's be honest, is just about the coolest name for a barber ever. No offense James), who was professional, personable, careful, and gave me a fantastic finished product. I didn't do the best job explaining what I wanted, but he still delivered on exactly the look I had in my head. Finding great people who can cut hair this well is a challenge, and now Matthew's has two of 'em. Great job guys, and thank you! read more

All I can say is that James is a quality barber and a quality guy. He provides excellent service and makes you feel welcome every time. I have an odd shaped head and have a hard time finding a barber that can modify a fade to shape my head but James knows how to work around my pineapple head. Thank's James, your the best. read more

Just moved to town, looking for a local barber, google searched, and this Diamond in the rough came up within the first five results. Just starting my own family and moved into the neighborhood, I opened up my own business. Had to find someone to cut my haircut . Even though I own a auto repair shop, where we roll around in oil and grease all day. I still have to be Presentable to the locals. Especially being new! Finding someone to cut your hair isn't easy these days. Anyone can go to a super cut or great clips. But to have a real barber is another story. Not to mention this is the first time I got a haircut where my clippers had a vacuum!attached, to suck the hair off my head instead of falling down my collar. Wow! What a service nothing like going back to work all day and had been itchy from having hair falling down your shirt. Not only was Matthew hospitable and friendly. He Is a family man. I am glad to be his neighbor and will be returning for all my haircuts! And I Will bring my family with. As this Salon knows what they are doing! Took my fiancé here a couple weeks ago. He went in looking so shaggy and with the beginnings of a poorly crafted Afro and they fixed him right up! He looked so classy walking out. I recently found a new barber here, HENRY. He is phenomenal. Although I am nearly bald, I get a h/c about every 2 weeks, and I don't mind paying full price, given Henry's superb attention to detail. He makes me feel like I've had a spa day makeover! While other guys just buzzed my head and used a trimmer on the back (stylists can't use a straight razor, I've learned), Henry is an experienced, pro barber. He attends to the littlest of hairs, examining every angle of my head. He attends to my ears, brow, skin (always moisturizes my scalp), and uses a razor to make the neckline stellar. He wraps it up with a light aftershave thing that leaves me feeling refreshed! It's the details that set apart a good haircut from a truly exceptional one. Plus, did I mention what a great guy he is? Having lived abroad, being from the Midwest, and being college-educated, he's a joy to talk to. Suggestions: The place could use a makeover. The once "cool" graphic (kind of wallpaper) flooding the wall is dated, and the bathroom needs a remodel. Nonetheless, JBG remains my go-to. Check it out!

My guy is Mark, and honestly, he's the reason I keep coming back. I wandered off to try another place for a while, but ended up returning here for a good reason--he just gets it. Mark is especially great for guys like me with thinning hair--he knows how to work with it, makes you feel comfortable, and always leaves me walking out more confident than I walked in. Now, the reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5: the booking system. They only open up appointments 3 days ahead. For someone who likes to plan in advance (or suddenly needs a quick cleanup before an event), it can be tricky--especially since I only want to book with Mark. Sure, if you don't mind who cuts your hair, you can usually get in quick because there are multiple barbers available. But for me, it's Mark or nothing. One cool touch: they'll offer you a beer if you ask. The place itself looks like an auto garage, but don't be fooled--the service is way sharper than the décor suggests. I originally booked with him in Folsom because I needed a last minute appointment and he did a great job. When he moved to Iverson's a few years ago, I decided to follow him. Nic will listen to you, give you advice/feedback on what he can do, and give you an excellent haircut. I also have particularly thick/coarse hair, so I am grateful when a barber takes their time rather than tries to rush me out of the chair. He is very attentive and will make sure you're happy with the final result. On top of that, he's friendly and a great person to chat with. I am moving away from the area and have to say that my next barber has big shoes to fill!

There are very few women that go to "barber shops". I realize this business is not named as such, but seeing the name Matthew when you want to get a haircut might not be comforting to a lady such as myself. However, the cut I wanted was really short, so I thought a man would be better qualified for the job. I was absolutely right! Matthew is a very nice, professional, clean guy. I showed him the picture and he was SUPER excited to do something "out of the ordinary". I was happy he didn't try to talk me out of it! As he did my hair, he made sure I could see everything he did. He made me comfortable by chatting about his grand kids and my girls. He asked a lot of hair questions to make sure he didn't do anything that I wasn't happy with, and my hair is gorgeous! I never thought I'd have a "Barber", and now I'm glad I have Matthew. Go there! Try something fun! Get your hair vacuum cut! It's a great experience, and there's no mess. Thanks matthew! read more

I have been going to James for my hair needs for 10 years now. He is amazing at what he does. Not only do I get a perfect haircut every time, but it is like a therapy session also as we talk about everything going on in our lives. He is like family to me and I couldn't imagine anybody else touching my head. We even both jumped out of a plane together in what was the best skydiving experience ever! You must come in and see him if your looking for top notch quality, satisfaction, and entertainment as he may bust out on his piano and serenade you! read more

Matthews Barber, Beauty , and Nails is an incredible full service hair salon. I have been a customer of theirs for several years. I must say that their shop offers an AMAZING line of products and services. James is a fantastic barber and a fair comedian. The staff there are top notch as well. If you're looking for a place where you can have all of your hair, nail, and entertainment needs met I would definately recommend Mathew's Barber, Beauty, and Nail. Barber James has been cutting my hair for multiple years. He's seen me go from short to long and back to short hair. He takes it all in stride! This is the type of barbershop I went to as a kid & beyond. Not a glitzy salon. If I thought I could get a better haircut at t fancy shop, I'd try it, but this is a s good as it gets! My wife thinks my hair is perfect, so no complaints on the home front. When James the barber give me a scalp massage after the cut, my brain is in heaven. You've gotta try this guy. This is the best barbershop I've ever gone to! It's been a pleasure to have James cut my hair. With the built in vacuum on the clipper & the scal[p massage at the fionish, I feel & look my very best!
