I brunched here with a few friends last weekend, as one of them lives in Shoreditch and recommended this place. It appears to be part of Electric Cinema, but we were just there for the restaurant, which is a nice, spacious converted warehouse-type space on the ground floor. They don't take reservations, but we were given an estimated wait time of 15-20 minutes, and there wasn't anyone else in the queue. When we were seated, we shared half of a long table with another party, but there were a few other types of seating arrangements around - a good number of smaller tables that would have seated 4 people, some chairs along the bar, and also some sofas along the windows where people had laptops and working or just hanging out!
As for the brunch, I found the menu a bit lacking. There isn't much of a selection - a few egg dishes, a soup & salad section, and some random other items. There isn't even a sweet section for pancakes or French toast! Personally, I am an egg person, but there were only 4 choices, all of which were quite standard. I settled for the poached eggs on sourdough toast, but asked for smoked salmon instead of black pudding, which they happily obliged. But to be honest, it wasn't too different than eggs any style on toast, which you could have asked for poached and then added a few items!
And the food was exactly what it said it was. It was one slice of toast with two poached eggs and some other toppings. I came away a bit hungry, and I think it would have been perfectly reasonable to order one of the other menu items to go with it, except that I don't really like soup or salad for brunch. I ordered a ginger juice to finish, which was very good, but note that it is not squeezed fresh - it comes from one of the many bottles that are available at the take away counter, and they even bring the bottle to the table. Funny because it is called "house press." Anyway, I really like the venue and it's a beautiful space, but I wouldn't say that this is a great brunch spot. I get the feel that it's more of a cool neighborhood hangout venue... and those sofas looked awfully comfy. read more
