I cannot imagine who would find this "gym" appealing except a high school boy looking to buy steroids, although there was one woman who seemed to be the one selling them. Ladies, do you enjoy being ogled by sickly-complected 17-year olds who run 0.3 miles on the treadmill at an all-out pace in a hoodie, WITH the hood up? How about a 23-year old bro wearing seven pounds of hair gel and a tanktop comprised of four strings? Then by God it's your lucky day, as the exclusive demographics of this joint appear to be Really Weird Dudes. Further observations: The music is bad (not normal-bad, you-have-to-try bad), and it is deafening. Blaring Queen on my noise-cancelling headphones failed to drown it out. The lighting is...red. The locker rooms are small and dirty. The ambiance screams Ringworm. The temperature is hardly cooler than the outside (it's called a dehumidifier, friends). On the treadmill I used, half the buttons were straight-up broken and the belt was loose, and it crapped out after 30 minutes. I did not stay to use the weight machines, which were crammed together like tinned sardines, as the urge to escape became, well, inescapable. In summary: I'm genuinely impressed that I managed to move this close to The Worst Gym in the World. Like, what are the chances. Anyway, if you're looking for a stuffy, creepy Exercise Dungeon as imagined by an especially dim middle schooler, check Impact out!!!

So I came here using my 1 week free pass to check it out before I commit to a year (or 2) membership. There are two levels with the changing rooms and spin room on the lower level with the main check in desk. The upper level has the fitness room, cardio equipment and weights. This is a fairly small local place but is in clean decent shape. They do have up to date equipment and offer some good classes. The spin classes in the morning at 6 are full with a wait list. Although it is hard to get in the fact that it is full speaks for itself. I myself haven't taken a class and am thinking about it but augh 6 am to be on a bike. These folks really mean it! I've taken the step class and the Zumba and they were awesome. I def got my cardio work out. I am still need to test run a few others but this place may work. It is close to the commuter rail so getting off the train and right over for a work out is doable (not sure if this is a word). They do have a pool although I am not a swimmer. The weight room is a bit small but they have the basics and there are a mix of people at different times. Not sure I am finding the right workout group yet. I am looking for an energetic group of folks to help get me motivated and kick me into gear to get off my butt. I am not sure this is it. They will give you a lock for the lockers when you give them your keys and you can use the supplies such as hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, shower soap too since all are fully stocked and right in the showers. Every time I go, they start texting & emailing, a constant barrage of marketing emails. I understand they're trying to hustle, but it's not zen at all. I end up unsubscribing just to get away from the daily dings. I even feel guilty for recommending USMMA to friends because I know what they're getting into with the marketing. It's really tone deaf and speaks to this organization's lack of sensitivity to the more tender spots, which is weird for a yoga studio. Last time I was in a class, the owner snapped a picture of me while I was twisted in a pose with my eyes closed without asking. I assume it's for their marketing campaign. It was a real turnoff and in poor taste. I wish they'd find a happy medium because I'd go more often if they could.

Seriously, what's the point of such crappy equipment? And they have so few plates (all rubber) you have to wait until others are done with nearby equipment so you can use the weights. It's unfortunate because they use to have a lot of steel plates... all gone! No wonder they are losing so many long time members. They use to be the only gym in the area that catered to more serious lifters as well as everybody else. Now it's just for Planet Fitness types. I work out a lot but alway feel like I get a whole new type of workout when I come to this club during the summer. The rest of the gym is great too. It's an older club and not all the equipment is brand new, but it's all in good shape and they have a big variety of machines, and weights to utilize. Everyone is really helpful and friendly here and the energy in the classes is always very motivating. About the only complaint I have is that the workout room gets really hot during classes! It was about 90 degrees inside the room other day. Not sure about AC, all I saw were a few fans which didn't help much.
