I walked in and was greeted by a couple of smiling ladies who were ready and willing to assist. After looking at the display for a minute I asked if the cafe was open and was led inside. If I didn't read about the cafe there would be no way I would know it existed. There are maybe 5 or so tables and at 3:30pm was empty. They do not carry alternate milks so I ordered a coffee and a slice of whatever their most popular item is. The person helping me would have none of that and had me follow her to the display case where she immediately started pulling out ENTIRE CAKES (they're massive) to show them to me over the counter (vs. just pointing). I didn't want her to put so much effort into showing me everything in the display - it looked like she was ready to do so - that I pointed at two and asked for a slice of each. I asked what one was, thought it was honey, but the name was Mohr. The person helping me knew it wasn't honey but didn't know what it was right away and ran to a list she had. I looked it ip on my phone and saw it was "poppy", which is delicious. But the fact that she was intent on trying to find the answer was really nice. A guy walked into the cafe and said "hallo". I found that odd as I didn't think people greeted each other when going into a restaurant. I greeted him back. A bit later a couple walked in and said "hallo" to me and the guy. We both greeted them back. I'm not certain if this is normal for smaller cafes, the fact that I chose the table closest to the cafe door, and they're surprised to see me when they open the door, or just the vibe of this particular cafe. At any rate I'm sold. Super nice people, tasty cakes and coffee, and friendly fellow customers. It's not really big enough to be a hang out but I may make it my personal one anyway!

Pre-Covid we simply called ahead and said when we would be coming by and had no issue getting a table. The eggs and coffee were delicious! And the waitress (maybe also owner?) was so friendly! When we told her we're still learning German, she said everything in German slowly and then repeated it in English. It was so nice of her. The only drawback was, when sitting on the patio and the weather was nice the bees were a bit of a nuisance. Which I think is just something that comes along with living in Germany maybe.

The range of goods comprises also rolls and brezels, with seeds or without, and wonderful cakes -- mind you: yeast and nut cakes rather than fancy cream cakes, tarts and tartlets. How anyone can work here and not grow enormously fat (yet happy) is beyond me! What makes this bakery stand out, though, is the friendly way of baker Karl-Heinz Carra and his wife Usch, always trying to give the best service, whether it is here in the heart of this "baking empire" or in one of the branches in the area, in the cart that sells in different villages that don't have a bakery of their own anymore, or when catering for a party or an event.
