My first encounter with this bakery was in 1975, then again in 1999. The bakery was run by Frantz's father and he (Frantz) was being trained by his father to be a baker. My then wife, and I lived on one side of the second level building that housed the bakery from 1975-early 1977. I vividly recall the early morning pounding of the dough and the wonderful fresh bread smells that would wake us up. Frantz's parents were wonderful people, the bakery goods were the best I had ever tasted. By 1999 the parents were still alive, but retired and Frantz had taken over the operation with the same very high commitment to incredible bakery goods. I particularly enjoyed the käsekuchen (cheesecake) and rogenbach (rye bread). I hope to travel to Germany again sometime during the next few years and certainly I will want to visit this wonderful family run bakery. read more
