I lined up a handful of painters based on reviews from around the internet. The saving grace in this instance is the Owner's wife. I dealt with via email and she was always quick to reply and seemed friendly. Meeting the actual owner? That's a totally different story. I had high hopes because most of his reviews are pretty glowing. He came to the house and immediately rubbed my husband the wrong way. He looked like he was angry. He came into the house and didn't bother really making small talk. Like I said, he apparently was angry. Maybe because he had called to move our appointment up and unfortunately I could not accommodate him. He got his tools, measured the house, wrote up an estimate and left. He barely shook my husband's hand on the way out. Even with glowing reviews and a good price, I could not in good conscience give him our business. Luckily for us, she later returned to interior design full time and we hired her to help furnish the house after construction finished. Leslie quickly gained an excellent understanding of our style and preferences. She then made our ideas even better. She would take an overwhelming number of options, say, for a chair, and present just a few that would be 'just right' choices and explain how she made those selections. Very importantly, Leslie kept the big picture in mind for us when we might have gotten lost(!) - how we wanted to live in the rooms, and how all the different choices would work together to serve the whole design. The whole process felt very personal and collaborative. Leslie listens carefully, works hard, explains ideas and options clearly, is easy to talk with, is very experienced and extremely knowledgeable. We are delighted with the end result. Without question, we would use her again!
