Definitely recommend the Tango show at Bar Sur, it was great!!! I would do the snack and drinks option though versus the full dinner. The tables are very small because there needs to be room for the dance floor so it is difficult to eat and after all of their food amazing steak I ate while in country this was a bit lackluster. We came here on a weeknight to watch tango performance, and we were able to be seated immediately. It's a very small spot, so you're able to sit super close to the tango dancers and see all the emotion, the intricacy of movements, and maybe even a bit of sweat or two! Only giving this four stars though because while it's obvious this is primarily a tourist experience, it's priced quite high for what's only really an hour of a performance and doesn't include anything else other than the seat. read more

It's been a few years, but I needed to update my review on Bar Sur! It was recommended by our hotel concierge and walking distance from our hotel. What a wonderful experience for us, the food is spectacular from empanadas, delicious beef stews, other Argentinian meat dishes. This is an intimate restaurant with a small dance floor with live music, Tango dancing performances that were great. Then live music played for the guests and we danced to the awesome music. If it were possible to give more than 5 stars, we would give 10! This was the best show we have ever experienced in all of our travels around the world. Having seen shows in Paris, Madrid, Las Vegas and New York- this show outshines every one. The closeness of the quartet and the dancers is what made the performance so special and intimate. After experiencing a Las Vegas rendition of a Tango Show which was overpriced and really poorly done (don't waste your money: Café de los Angelitos - review coming up).... We decided to go for a completely different experience and chose Bar Sur! I felt like I was walking into a speak easy during the prohibition... Knock Knock on the door and we are greeted by the most delightful gentleman. We walked into this beautiful dimly lit and rather small dining area with a gorgeous bar and the original architecture from 1910, we were seated at our table. We decided to do the dinner/show combo and while some people say it is expensive, perhaps so... The food is fine dining, but decent and really, who has time to even taste the food when you're watching these incredible dancers? I can't say enough about Bar Sur. I expected to see Tango dancers and what we saw and experienced was a complete show. From the small orchestra (small) and the magnificent voices of the singers to the experience of our waiter/maître d', really made us feel like we were transported in time. Because the place is small and intimate, you really are close up and won't miss a thing. I don't want to say too much, as I don't want to ruin this experience for a first timer. If you are in Buenos Aires, even if you are not staying in San Telmo, be sure to get there. It is worth every single penny, even if you order the food, which is not bad, it just isn't 5 stars, I would give the food 3 plus stars and they make a great gin and tonic. IMPORTANT: Please bring cash for a tip... If using a credit card, they do not allow you to add a tip to your card. We didn't bring cash and walked 8 blocks back to our hotel to get cash to bring it back (after midnight) to our maître d' - It was that good and worth it. Enjoy! read more

This quaint and high quality bar has live music and tango dance show, at least they did the Friday night we were here. While a little pricey, the quality of the service, intimate setting of the bar, its amazing location in the center of the San Telmo, and wide selection of wines and spirits makes it worthwhile. Especially if you're in Buenos Aires for a few days. read more

We're visiting BA and saw some reviews for Bar Sur on trip advisor. Overall, we really liked our experience. We didn't order dinner, just the show and got a glass of wine and a couple of empanadas to snack on. The place is TINY and either u love that or you don't. We totally loved it because it was like having a private show. It's a circuit in which a man starts off by singing for a bit then a pianist, followed by a trio and last the dancers. You can literally touch all the performers that's u how intimate it is. Everyone is older with the exception of the dancers and so the service and attention were great, definitely felt old school. The dancers at the end take pictures with everyone and take turns with each table to teach folks some of the basic steps. Shows start at around 8pm and run through the circuits until past midnight and you can leave whenever you want. The cover is $800 pesos per person roughly $56 the website says $600 and when we called they said that was an old price and said they would give us a complimentary glass of wine. With empanadas and a glass of wine on we came in at $1840 pesos just under $130 US for two people. They take cards and the price is the same whether u pay cash or card. Also, we were staying in San Telmo so we just had to walk back to our hotel but the waitier/host did offer to call us a cab as he did with all the guests. They shake your hand goodbye and everything was quite lovely, a great authentic experience! read more
