I've never written a review online about a food outlet, but having stumbled upon Bar Sicilia mid afternoon today, I really do feel obliged to write.
As noted in the other reviews, I'd say it's not a bar. I didn't notice if they are licensed. But equally, it IS a nice environment and perhaps I'm being snobby but I feel the term 'Cafe' wouldn't be fair; I'd associate that term with a greasy spoon. Which this definitely isn't. If you want a restaurant environment, sure, La Lupa might be a better bet. We only had a couple of Paninis. The menu seemed decent and the prices reasonable. We ate in.
The chap that served us (I'm guessing the owner as he is pictured on their business flyers) was very pleasant and genuinely helpful; suggesting alternatives for me to the chili sauce I needed to avoid (the balsamic oil/vinegar he suggested was indeed a fantastic choice).
Main points: The food was excellent - hot, fresh, tasty, and good value. It didn't taste synthetic. It also came with a salad I really enjoyed (with olives). I don't normally even like salad, but very happily cleared my plate. It was dressed with a lovely balsamic oil/vinegar, rather than left dry and seemingly whacked on the plate as an after-thought, as so often appears the case in Britain. The service was also faultless on this visit.
I'm a little concerned due to other reviews noting other businesses have failed at these premises, as this is one little business I genuinely hope succeeds. Excellent value for money, I won't hesitate to go back, and wish them all the very best. read more
