Popular place with lines! Quick friendly service though in spite of the wait! Cant imagine the wait in summer.

OMG . This place was one of my favorite places in Cordova ! Another typical tapas bar but this one is known for their potato omelet!! They make the largest potato omelets and wow they are super yummy!!! A must do if in Cordova!

This place was recommended by Rick Steves, so we came here for lunch after visiting Mesquita. This place is suppose to be known for their Tortilla. Service needs improvement. The server never brought us plates. Seems like a bunch of kids walking around instead of attending to patrons. We ordered: -Gratinated Tortilla (4 stars) -Prawn and Mango salad - not much mango or prawn. Seems more like pico de gallo. (3 stars) -oxtail (5 stars) - excellent flavour and taste. Oxtail was tender. Rating: 1 - Poor, 2 - OK, 3 - Good, 4 - Very Good, 5 - Excellent

Break out the SAT review books, because I'm about to pose an analogy: Tortilla Española: Bar Santos:: Pizza: Famous Ray's "The Original" Yeah. After reading an onslaught of glowing reviews on Tripadvisor [1], I really wanted to try this "famous" tortilla. The bar itself is plastered with local newspaper snippets circa 1966, when the bar first opened and the tortilla became an instant-hit. Well, guess what. It's not 1966 anymore and this tortilla was horrible. Yes, it is approximately 3 kilometers high, but I think that is part of the gimmick. The tortilla is all potato, with a very thin encasing of egg. (Break out your Regents Biology book: the egg was like the "nuclear membrane" of the tortilla.) Although "What Constitutes a Good Tortilla" is a divisive issue [2], I believe it is the balance of egg and potato (and maybe a little onion?) along with fluffiness, consistency, and texture that makes the perfect tortilla. And because I was simply served a stack of dense potatoes, there was not much to motivate me to ask for a second caña and stay a while [3]. The Law of Restaurant Proximity holds true: The closer the bar/restaurant/dining establishment is to a tourist attraction, the more horrific and horrifically expensive it will be. Bar Santos is along the square of the Mesquita-Catedral. [1] I've noticed that there is typically a huge dissonance between my tastes and what Tripadvisor tells me I should like. Thank God for Yelp Spain! [2] And one I will have to address in the form of a list on Yelp. [3] On this particular day, it was 45 degrees centigrade. That beer was really nice, hence the second star.

Bar Santos is a great place to grab a quick lunch in Cordoba. Their signature dish is the tortilla, which in Spain is basically an egg and potato quiche, although there are other items on the menu. I ordered the tortilla and really enjoyed it. I'm puzzled at the reviewer who said it was horrible. Mine was fresh and delicious, with just the right balance of egg and potatoes. It was reasonably priced and very convenient since I was visiting the Mezquita right next door. Don't miss the salmorejo, which is a cold soup that they serve in plastic cups. The soup is somewhat like gazpacho but it's thicker and they add ham to it. It is actually quite filling. Although I read on Tripadvisor that this place was very touristy, I certainly didn't see many tourists there unless they were from other parts of Spain. I was definitely the only American in line. And yes, there is going to be a line, but they move you along pretty quickly. So all in all, I would say that this is definitely a place you must go to if you visit Cordoba.

    Not a big deal!

I guess this place became kind of "popular" of their huge Tortilla (20€) and the location, but what I had was a disappointed tiny slice of bland tortilla, sincerely one of the worst one I've ever tried. On the top of that, the young guy behind the bar was pretty unfriendly and rude!

I really don't get the rave reviews. Maybe cause it's in such a touristy area? We should have known just due to its location that it probably wouldn't be good but we were starving. Second clue that we should have turned around? When we ordered, there was just a stack of pre-cut pieces behind the bar on plastic plates. The tortillas on display look fantastic, if for no other reason than the sheer size. But, sadly, that isn't what we received. One bite and this was some of the most mediocre tortilla we ever had. The consistency was rubbery (way overcooked) and the tortilla was bland. OK, it was cheap at €2... but I guess you get what you pay for.

Once inside, the atmosphere was very pleasant, having been seated in a large, open atrium with ornate carved stone walls and doorways. We asked for a large bottle of sparkling water but were told that they only had small bottles at €2.50 a pop. Small bottles mean more profit for the business but are inconvenient and more expensive for customers. We started with a bottle of the Speak of Silence /Extremadura, a dark red wine made with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo grapes. At €22 it was a decent value (average price = €19) with a 4.1 / 5.0 rating on Vivino and rated one of the top 2% of wines in the world. It was good, but I am not sure about the top 2% claim. We ordered and shared several dishes, so I will elaborate here: - Mixed Salad with Tomato Vinaigrette (€6.10): Nothing special, just an overpriced salad - Cordoban Salmorejo (€5.10): A local cold tomato soup emulsified with olive oil, Iberian ham, and egg, it probably would have been better warm or hot. It was tasty, but different, not something I would order again. - Cordoban Flamenquin (€14.75): Another local dish, pork loin stuffed with ham, breaded, and fried. It was good but a bit dry so I dribbled some sauce from the oxtail on top. It would have been better with an accompanying sauce, but then it would not be Cordoban. - Cordoba-style Oxtail (€13.95): Two small knuckles with barely any meat and eight small french fries scattered on top. The sauce was good and what meat that was there tender, but €13.95 for four or five mouthfuls? Definitely NOT a TravelValue. - Solomillo Boletus (€19.25): Iberian pork tenderloin topped with a mushroom sauce, it was delicious, but €20 seems a tad high for a few pieces of pork and a smattering of fries. Our server, Jose Rey, was professional and attentive and we were very pleased with his service. Another thing I did not like was the coercion to submit a 5-star review at the end of the meal. We were handed a card stating Ïf you don't like something, say it here¨but ¨Ïf you liked something, say it outside¨. I tell it like it is, so I do not appreciate being coached on what to submit in my reviews. The meal was good and the experience pleasant, but the few shortfalls we experienced kept me from giving them one of my top ratings. I've always been a huge fan of fresh juice... but theirs was way better... most likely due to their combination of fruits. We had the one with apple, pineapple and lime. Refreshing! To date, I still think about that glass of juice! Please note that there were no English menu and the servers do not speak much English. This is a sign that they cater to locals and not a tourist trap! We had to use google camera to translate the menu while we were there. However, the translation didn't work properly so we didn't understand most of what was on the menu. LOL. 1) We had the duck pate dish. Note that this is popular dish in Spain: duck pate, marmalade sauce and bread. This was our 2nd or 3rd time having this dish and we loved it each time! 2) Sardine pate - it came with lettuce, capers and bread. While my husband liked it, I swear I will not have sardines anymore in my life. (The other time I almost puked was when I tried sardine sashimi in Japan.) The fishy taste was just way too strong for me. I ended up just devouring the duck pate dish and sipped juice and latte. It was such a simple meal but I really enjoyed the experience! We had also just gotten to Cordoba after a long ride. We used this opportunity to chillax and figure out what to do in Cordoba.
