I wanted to try the famous sfogliatelle pastry and Bar Romano was highly rated. I arrived around 9:30am and it was crowded! I ordered one pastry and an Americano. The friendly man who took my order motioned for me to take a seat.
The pastry did not meet my expectations. The pastry dough tasted bland and the filling was very thick - like a gel instead of a custard or cream. The Americano was good, but was served with a hot glass of milk instead of water.
I had intended to stay for awhile and enjoy my breakfast and read, but the atmosphere was too chaotic. Numerous people stormed in and out, yelling (in that joyous Italian way) at each other. I felt out of place.
The prices were also quite high. I paid 3.50€ for this breakfast. At other bakeries nearby, I got a similar coffee + pastry combo for only 1.50€ read more
