I absolutely LOVE going to Bar K! It's one of my favorite places to take my dog. It's such a fun, welcoming environment where dogs can run around and play safely while owners relax and enjoy themselves. One of the coolest things is that they offer gourmet meals for dogs and they're actually fresh and thoughtfully made! I love being able to treat my pup to something special while I enjoy their great food and drinks too. Everything I've had there has been delicious, and the drink menu is just as impressive. It's also such a great place to meet people. Everyone is friendly, and it's easy to strike up conversations while the dogs are having the time of their lives. Bar K in Kansas City is such a fun and unique spot for dog lovers! I've been here twice with my small pug, and it's always a great experience. The staff is attentive and does an amazing job ensuring all the dogs are safe and having fun. My pug is shy and doesn't always warm up to other dogs, but the spacious play areas helped him gain some confidence and get comfortable. It's a perfect spot for dogs of all personalities to have a good time. The atmosphere is awesome, with great food and drinks for humans too. This place is awesome! I went with a friend who is familiar and wanted to check it out before bringing my dog, and I'm happy to say I certainly would bring my (small) dog. This day was a bit more chill than usual due to the weather but it was great to see all the play areas for dogs, including some for small dogs. Additionally, they have dog referees to supervise and help keep the dogs safe if they get too rowdy. We had way too much fun at Bar K! I like how they keep the big dogs away from the tiny dogs and there are wonderful security features where you can leave your pup in a play area and go inside and order lunch or drinks! When your pup is done playing, there is a convenient shower area to clean off paws and get ready for the ride home! I like that there is plenty of supply areas to clean up poppies, disinfectant spray is provided with paper towels and poop bags. The play equipment is fun! Well we found a bit of doggie Heaven on earth here! Our dogs love to be able to run and play and we loved watching them while enjoying great food and drinks. Great place to take your dog after work if you are in the area. There is a cover fee if you do bring your pet that's $10 but free entry if you don't have your pup. The food actually surprised me, the chicken tenders were crunchy but didn't have too much breading and the fries were fantastic with their house honey mustard. The hot honey chicken sandwich tasted great but the chicken breast I got was way too small for that massive bun. The cocktails offered were a bit too sweet for me as well but my friends seemed to like them.. I switched to beer after one. I absolutely love love this park. We have taken our 3 dogs here for at least eight years. The past couple of years, they've had some morph times but i'm seeing so much more improvements. They are listening the members and the guests In doing what they can to resolve any issues. The only concern I have is new people. Not knowing to latch the gate due to dogs getting loose. It takes just a second to put the latch on the gates down. Other than that, majority of people are friendly and great and so are the staff. read more

Visited this place for the first time this past Saturday because my wife and I saw a posting about an adoption event they were having. My wife and I were very excited to potentially add a family member to our house but when we arrived almost 20 minutes into the event we were surprised to see absolutely no one in the event space we asked several staff and management if they had any information or knowledge on the event but all we received were blank stares and half thought responses. The only answer we eventually received was that the adoption agency that they were partnering with has not shown up for the past month at these events. In my opinion if you are that unsure about an event you're hosting yourself maybe you shouldn't be posting about it online and giving yourself a bad name. read more

I honestly didn't expect much from the food because I thought the main focus would be on the dogs, but that was not the case. We lucked out with $10 Weekday Lunch Specials (4 entree options, includes 1 side and soft drink) which is absolutely unheard of in this economy. While the wrap looks smaller than the typical wrap, it makes sense considering the price. And though portion size may have been sacrificed, the quality and taste of both the Bar K Burger and the Hot Honey Chicken Wrap tasted way better than anticipated. The burger was juicy, flavorful, and we love a potato bun --- one of the better burgers out there. The Hot Honey Chicken Wrap had a subtle honey taste, was not really spicy at all, and the sweet pickled onions really topped off the wrap. And the fries were perfectly fried and crispy. Service was relatively quick and our server was super friendly. The space was bright and airy, even on a cloudy day, with seating options on two different floors. Edit: They banned him within 30 days of the posting of this review. This review is about the local creep. Everyone knows who they are and what they get up to. The staff know. The regulars know. The owners and managers know. The random walk-ins don't know, but they normally learn within fifteen minutes, or two if they're a woman. (The time estimates in that sentence were longer before I showed this review to a woman he's harassed and she asked me to reduce it to 15 and 2 minutes) Hell, their presence is so fundamentally tied to the place's reputation that random people at nearby bars know about him frequenting BarK and creeping everyone out. "Oh you take your dog to BarK? Do you deal with *creep's name* a lot?" Examples: Copying the numbers of staff and patrons when they say it at the counter for rewards points and then texting them late at night as if that isn't clearly and absolutely psychotic. Creeping around female staff when they're alone and have made several of them so uncomfortable over the years that they literally refuse to serve him. Making people feel so unsafe that there's an established buddy system to leave BarK when they're there around closing time. People literally coordinate leaving together rather than walk to their cars alone because of them. Orbiting dogtenders while they do their work and intently staring at their bodies. "Accidentally" flashing people. This is not an exaggeration; there are literally group chats to coordinate not being alone at BarK with this person. Regulars and friends who live nearby receive "help" texts to sit with someone and their dog at BarK or walk them to their car after dark when the creep is there because the behavior is so accepted by management and ownership. They consider their staff or patrons being uncomfortable to be a standard operating cost. On my very first visit to BarK a regular gave me a debriefing on who this person is, what they do, and how important it is to avoid them. It's a shame because the managers and owners seem like kind people, but it can't be denied that they know the full breadth of this situation, beyond what is covered in this review, and legitimately do not care because he's a paying customer. My dudes, I promise you this guy drives away FAR more revenue than he generates. I know at least half a dozen friends who adamantly refuse to come back here, going back years, because they don't feel safe running into this person. I have personally spoken to management and the owner, as have others, and nothing has ever changed. He's still there every day doing the same stuff. Any response this review might get of "thank you for bringing this to our attention, this is not the experience we blahblahblah" is an outright lie. They know. They've known for years. This has been brought up to them in private by staff and patrons many times. They just haven't cared to bar one person because the 1-3 beers they purchase is evidently worth umpteen people feeling unsafe or uncomfortable. So it's an overall (2/5) 3/5 1. Good staff. 2. Bar K was a blast. I don't have a dog of my own anymore, but joined up with some friends who brought their dog here. Great outdoor space, the dog tenders are awesome and friendly, and they had live music. It was fun to just chill out, pet the dogs that would run up, and enjoy seeing some happy pups running around. I will say to watch out for landmines... I think the tenders do a great job, but I was in a mulch area that seemed to have been missed in terms of clean up. The signage is pretty self-explanatory. Dogs can be outside off leash, on the patio on leash, but not inside. This didn't stop one lady from being above the rules and bringing her dog inside "for just a minute" while the staff tried to get her to go back outside. I'm sure it is health department/food safety related and not that the staff doesn't want your dog to enjoy some AC. read more

Food ok Drinks waaaayyyy overpriced Dog safety ignored. I had a membership until one of my dogs was attacked by another dog and they said the attacking dog could return once it went through behavior modification and mentioned it had had issues before. My other dog was constantly bullied on more than one occasion with other dogs snapping and lunging. On those occasions the aggressor was also bullying other dogs too. The staff did nothing. The last time I was there it was a pit mix who was barking and lunging and trying to bite other dogs. After I chases it away 3x I confronted the staff and management. They still didn't care. The aggressors seem to be mainly bully breeds or mixes and the large doodles. I'm surprised more dogs or people/children aren't seriously injured considering they don't do anything when dogs are acting aggressive. The amount of kids under 16 that are left unattended is astounding. I've seen kids run away from and scream at dogs. Kids under 16 are supposed to be accompanied by adults. It's rare to see a kid with their parent. Socializing your dog doesn't mean it has to play with other dogs btw. Socializing means it just behaves well in society without being aggressive or fearful. read more

This is the perfect happy place for dog lovers with and without their own dogs. There is a small dog area and a large dog area (where small dogs are allowed) with a water area during warm months, plenty of water bowls + tennis balls, a jungle gym, and most importantly dogtenders who keep the peace and make sure everyone is safe. During the winter, there is a large tent outside with heat lamps. The restaurant offers good food and has a dog menu as well. The inside bar has coffee, cocktails, beer on tap, slushies, and just about anything else you could want. On weekends, they offer "Doga" with a mimosa. They also host breed-specific meet ups, adoption events, and puppy training classes. Let me start by saying I don't have a dog. Before I visited Bar K, I didn't even consider myself a dog person! Bar K is life changing. It is dog-heaven on earth. I was struck by the inclusive, friendly community. Not to mention, quality food and drink! As the Events board member for the KCMO Downtown Neighborhood Association, I helped organize a private event at Bar K for our members. Bar K owners and staff were professional and attentive in their assistance before and during the event. Their private room and balcony is the perfect place for any dog-lovers event. And even for people without, or hesitant about dogs! The private event space provided privacy, quiet, ADA accessibility, indoor/outdoor access, bathroom access, and table service. Keep the doors open and the dogs outside on their own private patio, or close the doors and invite the dogs to join the indoor party too! With it's diversity of spaces and seating, I could see Bar K being a great place to study or work alone, have a private chat, or party with a group. They've really thought of it all. Staff members were not only professional and attentive to human guests, but dogs as well. If a dog was behaving impolitely, staff would remove the dog from the area. Well folks, we've found doggie heaven on earth, hiding under the Missouri 9 bridge in KCMO. We were blown away by our first visit out to Bar K, but we weren't quite sure what this place was heading into it, so read on and I'll try to break it all down if you're curious: First of all, this place has ALL the perks for your dog(s); Tennis balls as far as you can see, stairs to run on, water to dive in, rock walls to scurry up, other dogs to frolic with, lots of room to run, a menu just for them, and even a little paw washer and sprayer as they head out. $10 per dog per visit, or an annual membership for $115. They even have staff armed with whistles and air horns in case the dogs are bringing any extra energy into the play sessions. If this were just a dog park, it would be one of the best around. "Well cool," you're probably thinking. "So it's like a souped up dog park?" It is, but here's where it gets really good. This place is as fun for humans as it is for your pup. Aside from the dog areas, there's a bar where they'll sling beers in heavy plastic cups so you can take them out into the main area to chill. Grab a seat, watch your dog wear themselves out and relax with friends. It keeps going.. There's both downstairs seating and an upstairs balcony overlooking everything where you can order food and drink, watch TV, and hang out with your (likely very tired) leashed pup. There's even an inside cafe to hang out in, but it's for people only at this time. Ran into a fellow Yelper here and they described the food as "better than you'd expect" which I think is apt. Curious to dig in a bit more on the next visit. So if you have a dog, even if you don't, this is a spot you'll want to check out 100 percent. The perfect place to pop over to if you have a few free hours on a weekend or after work, I'm so impressed and felt like I was in some hip part of California my whole time here. WOWSERS. This place is heaven for dogs, dog owners, and dog loving people. Simple concept, and well executed. I currently have no human kids and my dog is my child. He is spoiled and we are really active together- we're always on the go and love to travel together. The problem we run into the most is finding dog friendly businesses that allow him to stay with me when I am eating or socializing. Bar K is a unique and needed concept for dog owners who want to have fun but don't want to leave their dog cooped up at home all the time- and even better for people traveling through KC like us. BarK is restaurant/bar that has indoor and outdoor human drinking and eating options with a totally fenced perimeter that seconds as an interactive dog park. Indoor dining is human only, but you can leave your dog outside with the handlers to play (think, daycare but you're in the general vicinity). The patio is dog friendly with leash on- and I would say it's tolerable out there till about the 45 degree temps- you can get both food and drink here. The last option is the outdoor bar that bellies up to the dog park, and dogs roam around you freely playing while you sit at the bar or picnic tables with a beverage. In the colder weather they put up tents and have heaters. There is a membership program for locals that use the space as a dog park-so plenty of locals just coming to play with their dog and not even eating or using the dining/drink facilities. $10/day currently for a non member k9 pass, and the handlers and staff were great. Food was just OK (3 stars in my book but I'm a tough critic) but I honestly didn't care since the point of coming here was all about the dogs. Totally check is place out. Dog heaven! I visited with friends to get our pups some exercise for the afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by Bar K. The dogs had a blast playing in the puppy yard while we had drinks, then the dogs were able to join us on the patio for lunch. Our waitress even brought them their own water bowl for the table. Honestly, this place didn't need to have great food to attract customers (the dogs are enough) but everything we ate was DELICIOUS. I'd come back just for the food. Bar K is such an amazing spot and an incredible use of space on a large lot of land! My furry friend is not a fan of dog parks but it never keeps me from visiting with friends who have dogs. Not only is the space large and great for social distancing, but their food is so good! For lunch I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup and it hit every spot! One of the things I love about Bar K is their recycling use of old shipping containers. I think it is such a great way to make new use of something old. There is also so much outdoor seating! The one suggestion I have is use Google Maps when trying to get directions, sometimes the Map app on IPhones doesn't quiet get you there and it can be confusing. Bar K used to be one of my favorite places in KC. It's a unique venue with pretty good food. However, I will not be returning. I'm not sure who it benefits for them to fire their wait staff and force patrons to order their food through a QR code, but if I wanted to isolate and order food on my phone, I can do that from home. People go out to eat for the experience. Being served by a human is CENTRAL to that experience! We want to interact with humans. They're also putting people out of work during a time when people are already struggling to get by. As a server, I am especially offended. BarK makes more than enough money to employ a wait staff. Great place to spend the afternoon. We were on a cross country road trip and always looking for a great pit stop to let the dogs stretch. My pups loved it. PLEASE READ! DOG OWNERS Bar K I took my sweet little shnoodle to Bar-K for the first time tonight, and had a wonderful and safe time until I was about to leave. My dog is old, very accustomed to social play with dogs and even grew up with a St. Bernard /Great Pyranees mix. She is calm and stays by my side for the most part. Once we were done eating and socializing in the big dog area, I took her back to the small dog park as we started there, to decompress and get ready to go home. There were two other women with dogs there, a very chill scene. I sat away from these women, and watched my dog (Lilly) from my spot. One of the women had two small Frenchie dogs, one that I had seen attack another dog in the food area. I didn't think anything of it until that dog then attacked my dog in the calm, small dog environment. This was completely unprovoked, as the woman had actually pet and said hello to my dog, to which her dog attacked mine. I pushed the dog away as he had chomped onto my sweet Lilly. I very calmly held her to make sure she was ok, and said politely, "you really shouldn't have your dog off a leash". She rudely rolled her eyes at me and began to walk away quick as I'm sure she was embarrassed. This is NOT OK FOR ME AT ALL and she was not going to get away with it! I'm sorry I didn't say anything when I saw the dog attack the other dog earlier, but I was taken away by the illusively wonderful environment. THIS IS WHERE IT GETS GOOD!!!!!! I told the lady again in a polite way, "I'm going to have to tell the manager that your dog attacked my dog", as I was sure there is policy or rules to make sure this doesn't happen! The manager/person I was met with immediately took sides with the woman who owned the Frenchie attack dog. I explained her dog attacked my dog and quickly took my dog to the car so she could be away from the situation caused by making a dog momma real, real angry. The "MANAGER" said that I was uneducated on dog breeds, and that her job (and all she could do about this) was to let me know that it was my fault my dog was attacked because I am too unaware of different breeds! That is some crazy stuff, but she didn't stop there. She continued to explain that maybe I should bring my dog a few more times to get accustomed to the other dogs (dogs that attack ????). I then asked for a refund, she could not find my payment. While they expressed some real Karen-esque apologies, they were so unbelievably rude. Both of these women were completely insanely illogical, as well as I'm afraid to say, STUPID. I'm mad and I'll say it. I hope I get a call tomorrow from someone at Bar K who actually knows what they're talking about and can give me some sympathy and explanation as well as a refund! Not only do I want my money back, I want this problem to be solved so other dogs don't get hurt. Anyways - I hope you all know that BAR- K Allows dogs to attack other dogs without a care! And without any sympathy for a sweet innocent old dog to be randomly and completely attacked, and for me to be so disrespected.
