Clara is a lovely little bar, just off the corner of Exhibition street on Little Bourke. It probably should be classed as a hidden bar, as it is very easy to miss, being underneath a Chinese restaurant that has signage everywhere. Keep an eye out for the Clara sign and the stairs leading down off the street.
The fit out is cosy and inviting - indirect lighting and velvet banquettes soften the raw concrete ceiling, and a cool copper bartop fronts the interesting but not overwhelming display of spirits. The staff are very friendly and ready to assist with your drink selection, providing extra information where needed (for example, some of the house made cocktail ingredients involve the use of a centrifuge).
Speaking of cocktails, there are some very innovative concoctions on the menu. Last time I tried some of the signature range - Fire and Earth containing mezcal and beetroot, and the Bloodless Mary, a bloody mary with a Bar Clara twist. Next time I will give some of the seasonal experiments a go. There is also a selection of beer and wine available as well as some snacks if you get peckish. Definitely worth seeking out. read more
