The focus here is on rotisserie chicken; they have other items but they're not the main event. It's very big inside, 2 stories and even early it's pretty busy. The chicken is well seasoned and very juicy; enough so that you know why it's So popular. Sides I can barely remember , but everything else was good- it's just that you will Always remember that chicken! Other than that, my only other clear memory of that dinner is that it was very reasonably priced. If I were in the area again, I'd return in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

As I came in on my own I opted for the one open stool at the counter. The restaurant was busy on a Monday early evening, about 5:30-6:00 pm-ish, with what felt like mostly locals. They have a regular menu, a daily menu printed on the counter top, and they also do Take-Away. Their specialty is definitely their roasted chicken, which one can see cooking on spits at the entrance of the restatruant, conjuring such amazing smells that truly open up the appetite. The staff is sweet and did their best to serve me, with my English/Spanish and no Portugese self. Everything I ate was top-tier without being fancy. Simple and flavorful. I ordered a 1/2 chicken (way too much for me by myself) that came with batatas (french fries- which I didnt love), so I ordered a side of white rice and a salad, as well as what I would call a carafe of wine (it was definitely either two very healthy pours or 3 regular ones). All in all, I paid $15 euros, which I thought was a great value for all that I was given and how tasty everything was.

Not to say we didn't have alot of good food, but here each dish received high marks. The chanfana is the local special, so would highly recommend you get that. All of the meat was done well... Crispy outside and fall apart, fork tender on the inside. The staff were also very friendly and personable.

Our waiter, Raphael, was courteous and helpful with the all Portuguese menu. We ordered the house white wine and a bottle of still water. The wine was very good but very inexpensive. We started with soup, my wife with vegetable and me with seafood. While hers was good, mine was rich and flavorful and excellent (I had others in Portugal but this was the best). Then we had salad and chorizo sausage. Salad was adequate, but the sausage was done to perfection. Then came my wife's entree of pork cheeks with potatoes and a delicious cabbage mix. I had their goat, served in a pot with a luscious gravy that was perfect for dunking your bread in. With it were boiled potatoes and spinach. The spinach was pan seared with oil and garlic. The potatoes went well with the abundant gravy. Topped it off with the home made almond cake with a side of ice cream. All this for 75 euros. We came back to our hotel stuffed and satisfied. The only problem was yelp has the address wrong. I have included in the photos their card with the correct address, about a half block from the old one. By the way, they do take credit cards. Enjoy!

The best suckling pig to be had in all of Porto. Its way out of the way from the tourist trap…read morerestaurants but what a gem of a place. The suckling pig skin is so crisped that when you bite into it the sound is akin to breaking glass. The meat is also tender and moist. The only complaint that I have is that there is no accompanying sauce, similar to the Filipino sarsa sauce, a tangy liver flavored sauce that ups the level of any pork centered dish. The servers are also ultra friendly and go out their way to make you feel at home. Clearly, this place is really popular with the locals because even though we came at the ungodly hour of 2:30 pm and lunchtime is over at 3, the place was still pack and the servers were still smiling and very helpful and refilling drinks.

In Porto, we've tried two places, this and Leitão e Coisas. We can't agree on which is better. Casa dos Leitões has younger pigs which is more tender. But tender and mushy is such a fine line, and therefore I prefer the meatier pig at Leitão e Coisas. Leitão e Coisas has a dipping sauce that's more pungent with garlic and pepper, and here the sauce doesn't overpower. One thing we agree on is that Leitão e Coisas has a better salad. The price here is a better value for the same amount of food. €9 for a good sized portion, and €4 for a half bottle of sparkling. Well, I guess all I say is, both places are excellent to try the famous leitão. One downside of this place is that it's rather out of the way for tourists. If you're visiting one of the port houses up the hill, you're almost half way there, but otherwise, strongly recommend taking Uber. Or hop on the metro and visit the other place. If you are not into pigs, they have one dish of codfish and one of steak, and that's it for alternatives. Also, note that their hours are a bit tricky. We arrived at 6ish for dinner as that's we thought the opening hour is, but turned out that take out starts at 6, and dine in starts at 7. We had to stand in the street for a while till they let us in a bit early. Similarly, dine in for lunch starts at 12:30pm but take out starts sooner.
