Dr John McCarthy is the BEST family doctor. He is kind, patient and thorough. On my first visit he discovered a thyroid issue that had been undiagnosed for potentially over a decade. Thanks to the labs he ran he then also found out I was severely Vitamin D deficient. He always goes out of his way to ensure that he digs deep into the issues of his patients and never dismisses their concerns. His response time is also SO fast. Not all doctors are meant to be doctors- but he definitely is. Baptist is lucky to have him! read more

Here to establish as a new patient because it's closer to home. We arrived early as suggested and check in was a breeze. Unfortunately its 25 minutes after my appointment and I can still hear the patient speaking to the doctor next door. Very thin walls, questionable privacy....... But everyone is friendly and welcoming. Update: The portal was a hassle to set up but finally done. Still waiting for results from 2 weeks ago. But the bill is ready now! Lol read more

Location was nice, Dr. McCarthy was AWESOME! His assistant didn't look very happy though... Other than that, I am EXTREMELY happy that I was able to get with the Dr. McCarthy and speak with him. I have been looking for a primary care doctor in Jacksonville and decided to schedule an appointment with Dr. Lindsey. The office staff was kind, but when I met with the doctor she tried to alter the diagnosis I received from my therapist within 2 seconds of meeting me, and then I was treated like a hostile/difficult patient when I disagreed with her. Did not listen to what I was saying or what I was asking for, to point where I had to leave mid appointment in tears. If you are looking for a Doctor that cares about mental health, look anywhere else. read more

I really want to love this place . Initial visit had to be scheduled months in advance and was told this was as only for initial appointments. I called recently to schedule an appointment for something that COULD be serious and I was told they have an opening in mid- March. Like what ? That being said , Dr. McCarthy is a fantastic Dr. and an even better human being. read more

As a young adult who needed to make general checkups with a primary care physician this was a great place to go. It was easy to make an appointment online with a doctor I wanted to see. The office called me back promptly and plans were set. I enjoy this office because it is close the the UNF campus and is easy to locate. The social distancing in place for COVID is masks on. There was no hassle later when I called the office to request a copy of documents. The staff is super kind and helpful. I enjoy knowing that they will treat me with respect at every step. read more

From the moment I walked in the door, until the time I left-I have never ever been treated so medically professionally. Thank you so much for helping me out, as I was so sick. I believe the young lady doctor was, Dr. K. Barrier, Md. I never sat down in the waiting room. I was taken back to a room immediately. I won't go in to great detail, but after a breathing treatment, I was feeling better. When you can't get into see your doctor and is an escalated situation, I highly recommend this place for your medical emergencies. read more

Went to this ER because they have Wolfson Children's included. My 4 year old had sever stomach pains and came here Friday morning around 7am. We were seen right away, the nurse/doctors assistant was amazing and was very sweet with my daughter, the woman who did the xrays was BEYOND amazing. She was nurturing and patient with my daughter. The doctor was very professional and to the point. I just wish I would have got to see the xrays, but overall AMAZING first ER visit for my child, she even told me she had a good time, which is important for young children to like going to see doctors. read more

I was a new patient with Dr. Lindsay. I have been on a prescribed controlled substance for 15 years and I just moved to Florida. I went to Dr. Lindsay and felt like I was being treated like a suspect for requesting my prescription. She treated me like a drug seeker and was incredibly rude to me. She also keeps you waiting for a long time, my appts took at least an hour always and I never have that kind of time in the middle of my workday. I will never go back to this office. read more

All I can say is, WOW! I initially saw Dr. Catherine Lindsay at this location and I felt she was very short and rude. I went back to her because the location is close to work and again, I was met with a very abrupt, rude demeanor. And no... I was not requesting a prescription of any kind, I don't take medication. Dr. Lindsay didn't seem caring at all. The last time I went there was in May of 2019 because of this. I called today to request a routine annual visit with Dr. Rust, the other physician in their location and was informed that because I already established Lindsay as my PCP, that I could only see her. Seriously?!? So basically, they gave me the option to see a physician with whom I am very uncomfortable seeing or losing me as a patient with their practice. So be it.... Dr. Rust has good reviews, Dr. Lindsay.... not so much. If you visit this practice, I would not recommend seeing Dr. Lindsay. read more

Do not go to Baptist Primary Care Clinic on St. Johns Avenue in Jacksonville and do not rely on Dr. Aishah Covington Simms, MD for any medical care. In addition, do not rely on Baptist Risk Management's Pamela Hayes to help you resolve your family medical mistake. Hire an attorney. Here is why: History: My 94-year-old mother lived independently in her condominium and managed to care for all of her needs, even driving her own car. On Friday January 5, 2018, she fainted in her home, fell, and broke her leg. The diagnosis at the hospital (St Vincent's) was over medication from a recent increase in her blood pressure medication. A lawyer and friend that represents Baptist Medical recommended that I reach out to Baptist Risk Management for assistance rather than hiring a lawyer. He felt they would deal fairly with our unfortunate situation. In December 2017, my mother went to Baptist Primary Care at 4530 St. Johns Avenue in Jacksonville for her semi-annual physical. For the previous 10+ years, Dr. Michael Stevens had been her primary care physician at that location, but because he moved his practice location, my mother decided to stay at the same Baptist Primary Care facility because it was closer to home. Her new doctor, Aishah Covington Simms, MD, saw her for the first time for no more than 5 minutes. During the physical, she noted her blood pressure was slightly "high" and elected to double her blood pressure medication (Amlodipine from 2.5mg to 5 mg). After doubling the medicine, she scheduled my mother's follow-up visit for months out. I think that it is also important to note that my mother's medicine and dosage had not changed in the previous 10 years. My mother was in excellent health the only specialist doctor that my mother saw regularly (besides a semiannual primary visit) was her dermatologist. A few days after her appointment, my mother came to visit us at the beaches. During the next week. I noticed my mother was more forgetful than normal and we observed her having 2 dizzy spells during the day and finally a fainting spell one evening. She admitted to us that the doctor had doubled her medicine and she had been not feeling as well since. I put in multiple calls to her new doctor's office, complete with messages, but the calls were never returned. I explained I was her daughter with POA and asked that someone call me back. The office never returned my call even though later they acknowledged receiving my calls and said that they tried to call my mother to validate that they could speak with me on her behalf. Finally, after Christmas, my mother returned to her condominium. In a few days, we received a call from Medical Alert detecting a fall. She had fainted again, fallen in her home and broken her left femur. The Med Alert ambulance took her to the closest hospital, St. Vincent's, where she received excellent care. Baptist never called during my mother's stay in the hospital. After a week, she went to a nursing facility for PT and still, I could never get Baptist Primary Care Clinic to return my calls. Finally, I we to the office and sat in the lobby requesting to see Dr. Simms. They said she was busy all day and could not see me. I told them I would wait in the office until she had time. After 2 hours, they finally called me back and I met with Simms for 20 minutes. She admitted she made the medicine change based on looking at one previous BP reading. As we looked back together in mom's patient history however, we found BPs higher and lower; heart rates higher and lower. Records showed that there had been no medication change for 10 years. This doctor is very new and inexperienced. She should not practice medicine without the oversight of an experienced physician. After multiple calls and an EXTENSIVE review of our personal telephone records clearly showing our calls inbound and no calls from Baptist outbound, Baptist Risk Management and Pamela Hayes refused to offer any explanation for the miscommunication. Risk Management was not helpful and appeared that its sole purpose was to drag down the energy of the client, requesting every record possible and offering no explanation or resolution for any event. I started out with a female MD by the name of Dr. Le. Rather awkward lady. She wasn't there the next time I went back & saw Dr. Lindsay. This MD was okay, but didn't seem very concerned with the personal issues I addressed. I also didn't like the fact that she did her medical notes out in the open and spoke them out loud to the computer. I could hear her say "Patient denied offer for medication." I'm pretty sure that's a HIPPA violation. Emily, who is part of the office staff, is just plain rude. I'm pretty sure she doesn't like her job. I had to call one day to cancel an appointment, I tried several times throughout the morning to get through and got no answer. Emily finally answered, told her I had to cancel, and she actually had to nerve to tell me, "You should have cancelled sooner. We have other patient's who would have taken this appointment." I didn't know that it was my problem if I had to cancel and the office now had an open slot. They charged my for not giving notice, although I did give notice. When I arrived for my appointment the office manager was at the front desk, and told me I had to sign new paperwork that I had already done on a previous visit. So, ok no problem, but when I went to take them to her she says very loudly I had a balance in collections that needed to be paid before I can be seen. So I ask how much, she stated $198. I told her I couldn't pay that today and I would make payments, she she repeated that I had to pay before I could be seen. I told her I wanted to speak to the manager and she said I was already talking to her!!.. long story short, I told her I would go somewhere else, and she yells as I'm leaving in front of everyone I still had a balance and now a no show fee since I didn't cancel.
