I love Dr Liu! He has the magical touch!  He seems to be able to fix the aches and pains I have. A few months ago, I had terrible carpal tunnel in both hands for weeks. I couldn't sleep because the tingling and numbness in my hands and fingers were unbearable. Just 3 sessions, 1 per week was all it took to be back to normal, Thanks only to Dr Liu, and no need for surgery.  I recently was having pain in my thumb because I have a bad habit of holding my cell for too long in awkward positions. I was in pain for 10 days. I went to see Dr Liu today and the cause of my pain was also tennis elbow. He treated my thumb, wrist, elbow, and arm. He pulled on my fingers at the end and they sounded like a piano. There is still a little soreness but the intense pain is gone and I know in a few days I will feel better. Rehabilitations Under Dr. Liu, Elite Acupuncturist I first came to Dr. Liu after my Dentist, who had his own sciatic issue resolved, recommended I go see him... About a month before, I experienced for the first time a startling occurrence of not being able to get out of bed for pain in my lower back. After a bit I was able through arm strength to push my body near the edge and slowly cantilever my legs down to eventually stand. I slowly started warming up and moving about, limping to get ready for an appointment I had to keep. When eventually I reached the stairway to exit, on turning on the landing I collapsed, though part way down, caught myself on the banister. From then on I was either in some pain or at best, keeping a tender equilibrium of cautious movement. Yet for never being ill and always healthy and strong and such frailty new to me, I kept it to myself. But by casual reveal, the good Dentist thought it better I might do something to address it. And so, I did... I easily scheduled for when Dr. Liu was free and went in cash in hand. His office was warm, comfortable and in good taste. And he turned out to be a most interesting man. Confident and direct, he began his examination, one I'd never experienced the likes of before. After setting out what the difficulty was, he began a parallel pressing to either side of my body from lower thorax to thigh, and repeating this rhythm, progressively increased the pressure until I yelped... more than once. Apparently, thus gaining a scheme of tack for his technique, he had me lay face down for the treatment. After inserting the needles, and I marveling how painless that was, he then hooked on some few electrodes to the pins and fed an electric impulse into the maze he configured. Then I was in the zone of his confounding address... and I mean that in the best way. It is uncanny how he precisely alleviated my condition. As I can tolerate pain well, though it need not be so strong an intensity should one seek lighter address, I let him set the strength of the second by second impulse to what he wished me to tolerate. I accustomed myself to the regimen and honest truth, just on this one visit he abolished almost the whole problem. That was after four weeks of prior suffering. So, 20 minutes of discerned discipline yielded a most welcomed state of relief. He suggested I see him twice more in another week to really get me in shape. Since that treatment in 2016, and one minor touch-up 2 years later, I've not again had pain in this area. Here I am writing this today, May 5, 2023. And by the way, that on-and-off-again sciatic problem had been an issue since my early Union days as a painter beginning in 1969. So, there it is! But the story continues. During that minor rehab just referred to, I also brought up that I'd been newly experiencing some vertigo, and could something be done. So, there we started handling my disequilibrium. That also was satisfactorily resolved in a few visits, and for me, it was quite important to have my usual balance restored. In my opinion, Dr. Liu is just amazing. But I keep getting older... I smoke, don't exercise anymore since retiring (my work had kept me in shape) and the physical universe pays its due. Today I'm being treated for a frozen shoulder, which I'd never before even heard of until forced to investigate. This is taking me a bit more time to resolve as it happens and I can only leave a progress report... but here it is. About 4 months ago, unable to extend my right arm and hand across my body to reach my left flank, or raise it high without pain, or reach up behind my back, unable to lay on my right side in bed, and soliciting ache if I tense my shoulder, I let this go unhandled until my schedule was less complicated, two and a half months that is. After 7 treatments, now my days are almost back to normal. There's only a slight amount of reach left that I can't perform as well. This is remarkable, based on the opinions of a pair of on-line physical therapists who claim such recovery is an impossibility, as recovery, they think, takes around 2 years. Just came back here after years I was a regular client and I was treated very badly by the administration assistant Joy. She is extremely rude and has no manners. Dr. Liu she should find another job where doesn't have to deal with patients: maybe do paperwork in the back office. Her people's skills is below 0. Wow! I'm so glad I listened to my friend who recommended Dr. Liu. I started a few months ago with some acute back pain that would not go away. Dr. Liu promptly fixed that and then we started approaching other body pains/issues that I didn't even notice because the back pain was masking everything else. In 1989, I experienced a puncture wound, 6" deep into my right hip, damaging my sciatic nerve. The diagnosis from Kaiser Permanente doctors in Walnut Creek, CA was that due to the nerve damage, the muscles would atrophy and I would walk with a pronounced limp and would never be able to run. The US doctors were wrong about running. I have completed 7 marathons over the years and still enjoy running but my gate has been very unbalanced due to the weakness of my right leg. In 2018, my wife found Dr. Liu and was extremely happy with his treatment. She recommended I go see him for my leg. When I first met him, I immediately liked his clear, straightfoward-ness in saying he can heal my leg. He showed me how scar tissue was causing the muscle atrophy. I first saw Dr Liu a few years ago for treatment of a painful trigger thumb that several hand doctors I had consulted said required surgery. With a series of accupuncture treatments, he restored normal functioning to my thumb. I have since seen him for other hand issues: tendinitis and arthritis, and for arthritis in my shoulders. I have had Type 1 Diabetes for 32 years. Thousands of injections as well as an insulin pump and Continuous Blood Glucose Monitor have left me with very thick scar tissue all over my abdomen. The tissue became very painful and hard and my insulin wasn't absorbing correctly. Nothing was working to remedy this issue until I came to Dr. Liu. I went to Dr. Liu to treat the symptoms from Meniere's Disease which I was diagnosed with by several highly recommended neurologists about 7 years ago. After 2 MRIs and CAT scans and other tests they decided I had Meniere's and told me there was nothing I could do about the tinnitus and dizziness. During the attacks, which I would have for a few months every year or two, I would have significant hearing loss in the affected ear, terrible vomiting and very extreme dizziness for up to 24 hours at a time. When I went to see Dr. Liu he asked me a long, indepth series of astute, involved questions and came up with a different diagnosis from two NYC neurologists (including one from the physicians' group on 57th and Madison Ave). He told me I had "good reason to have hope." 3 sessions later my ear was cleared up and back to 100% hearing. 7 sessions and 3.5 weeks later I can safely say I'm over this episode and have good reason to believe I am healed. The amazing dr. who recommended Dr. Liu is a Reichian Therapist (not Reiki). He told me that Dr. Liu is aggressive. It is true that the needles sometimes hurt worse than hell. He was gleefully sticking them in my ears and around my eyes etc.. He is so very nice and has such a great attitude that it was half funny to be in that much pain (or at least a little tiny bit funny). Holding a bunch of needles, he asked what other problems I had. I told him about my hip injury from 3 years ago. I had to stop exercising because of it. Physical therapy, acupuncture and chiropractors hadn't been able to help me. My last doctor had once again told me to stay off of it or have surgery. Dr. Liu said, oh - that's what acupuncture is FOR! He cured my hip in a few visits. It had been diagnosed as a piriformus (?) injury, but he told me the real problem was a disc that had been affected. My neck and shoulders were incredibly tight. The acupuncture loosened them, and I found I had much more energy at the end of the day - I used to be nearly catatonic by 6pm. He said tight neck and shoulders brings fatigue at the end of the day. He also guessed that I have throat trouble (chronic sore throats) and told me that by the time he is through with me they will be gone, and my voice will have become less gravelly. So I gave him 5 stars and wrote this long, crazy, probably ungrammatical review. I first went to him about the middle of April. For a recent ligament injury, I went back to Dr. Liu who I trust. After one treatment, the swelling was enough reduced that my quad muscles re-activated and I could begin western-prescribed physical therapy. After the next treatment, swelling was further reduced and pain further lessened. Dr. Liu's acupuncture is the most effective, efficient ($80 without insurance) healing modality I have found for sports injuries. He can supply the missing piece that allows some western methods to work. In some instances, his method is all you need to enhance regular physical health regimens, like regular warm-up, strengthening and stretching. Prevent the development of knots, compensation and scar tissue. Although I can only talk about sports injuries here, I've heard some of his other patients express gratitude for his helping to heal serious conditions which other physicians couldn't help with. read more

I came to Dr. Liu in November 2016 with terrible pain from herniated discs in my lumbar spine. After just one appointment, I felt a big difference in my health and knew I was finally on the right path, but I'll tell you the full story. I'd been going to a chiropractor for a few years who also worked on soft tissue (I began treatment in 2012), plus I'd been in physical therapy for quite a while and had been diligent about my exercises. I was much stronger, but I was still in a lot of pain. I couldn't stand without nerve pain in my glutes (L 4-5 herniation), not to mention the constant tightness and knots in my lower back. I avoided doing my dishes and flossing my teeth, because I didn't want to stand for that long--minutes!--and I even stopped riding the subway during peak hours, because I was afraid I wouldn't get a seat. As an athletic person, my physical state was really killing my spirit. I had a steroid shot in September 2016 that worked 100% for me, which was great, because it was diagnostic and told us the disc/area that we thought was causing the nerve pain was actually the culprit. However, I still felt the knots and stiffness--just without the pain. I wasn't healed, it was a temporary patch, and the pain did return in November. That's when I mentioned to a friend about my condition, and she referred me to Dr. Liu. "He completely healed me from my herniated disc," she said, "but this is unlike any acupuncture you've had. It hurts sometimes. But he knows what he's doing." My first appointment took about 1.5-2 hours. Dr. Liu was thorough and professional, and best of all, he was confident he could heal me, even after hearing my years-long story. He said something like, "I can make ice to water, but I can't change stone." (He is wonderfully quotable.) I've never had acupuncture like this before. He is so detail-oriented and thorough, I was very impressed. He knew exactly which areas were the source of my trouble by palpating the tissue. He is not what I think of as a "gurgling jade fountain" acupuncturist. Nothing trendy or try-hard spirituality that I see in other clinics. He will not simply insert needles and walk away. He is surgical (though funny) and will work on you in separate stages. For me, this includes inserting a needle and then removing it, in several areas, and then inserting a series of needles and hooking me up to E-stim. Then he sometimes comes back a third time and finished up any tightness that's left. I am a journalist and I love information, but I cannot find anything in medical journals that describes the technique he uses. He says it's his own technique to break up scar tissue/adhesions. I can't bring myself to look at what he's doing when he's working on my side and I could watch, but it feels like he's etching with a needle on my muscle fascia. This could be entirely inaccurate; I am only describing the feeling, and it is not exactly comfortable! But I do believe, as does he, that it is necessary for healing. I always get a 20-min massage afterwards, and it's $20 and totally worth it. They really know what they're doing. By the way, the entire staff is very friendly and helpful. I am not interested in patching the problem with injections or medications. I believed this problem could be healed, and so did he. If you can surrender to the treatment and fully trust him, you will greatly benefit. It is a partnership. He told me that I must believe I can be healed in order to be recover. He also said that I have to do my part, too: Not pick up my bag the way he saw me do it. He showed me a better way to bend. And if I really never want to feel pain, then I must follow the golden rule: Never get upset, ever. Ha! It is now May 2017, and I was able to stand without any pain in March, after a few months of treatment. (I was going twice a week for about two months, and then going weekly.) His guess is that I've had this back problem for at least ten years, and I agree. I think my case, for my age, was more severe than most, and he fixed my friend in less time. I am now jogging very lightly, doing yoga, I can stand anytime with no pain, I get out of bed and I'm not creaky at all, those knots and the tightness in my back are gone, and the curve has returned to my lumbar spine. It's truly incredible. What I've spent on treatments with Dr. Liu is the best money I've spent on myself. I feel like I have my life back, and that is priceless. He really is a miracle-worker, and I feel so fortunate to have found him. I hope his other patients see as much improvement in their health as I have. read more

Dr. Liu is a miracle worker. I am an athletic person who admittingly over does it with the running & spinning & ashtanga yoga 6-7 days a week. I'm also the typical New Yorker who is weighed down by two 20lb bags & climbs a 5 floor walk up on a daily basis. I went to see Dr. Liu for lower back pain that turned into shooting pain down my leg. I could barely get out of bed. and I didn't ever think i would be able to run again. Well he fixed it. Now a year later i went because again i pulled something in my lower back, after 3 sessions i am almost back to normal & in the meantime trying to strengthen the muscles that will help protect my lower back to avoid this in the future. ironically on or about the same time that i pulled my back muscle, my eye started twitching. i mentioned it to Dr. Liu & we discovered that i strained something at the base of my neck & shoulder on the left side which ran up to my temple causing a nerve to spasm in my eye. once he relaxed the muscles w/the needles my eye stopped twitching. i also felt a release down at my lower back. its amazing how the body works & how one thing affects another. my injuries were all on the same side of the body. He is not for those who have a low tolerance for pain, his needles get to the where the root of that problem is & he goes for it. i think its called pressure point. but you feel great afterwards and you also have the option of getting an amazing massage from one of his masseuses. his staff is very friendly and accommodating scheduling wise. read more

Dr. Liu is the best acupuncturist I could find in the city. His office is always very busy because he's that good. I had chronic back & shoulder pain and he made it a lot better. I probably would've been completely healed had I not moved away from NYC. I haven't found another acupuncturist as good as he is. Acupuncture is all about pressure points & get your stagnant chi (energy) flowing smoothly. The needles they use are very very thin & it doesn't hurt. You will feel a little soreness once the needle reaches the sore spot, which indicates you have some stagnant chi there. It's expected. The massages afterwards are also great to reinforce the treatment. The soreness/pain you feel from the massage or touching is because they are touching the right spot. Trust me I've seen acupuncturist who sticks needles in me & I don't feel a thing but it does nothing treating my pain either. Their admin staff could be a little pushy but Dr. Liu is the best. His bedside manner is efficient, right to the point. He'll take your medical history but he's not a shrink, so don't expect him sitting in your room the whole time to listen to you to go on & on & on. His rate is also not that expensive comparing to other practices. I've been to sessions where I was charged hundreds of $$ but with no effect whatsoever. If you are really afraid of needles, you can try lying on a couple of tennis balls & have them rolling around your sore spots. I first saw Dr. Liu on the recommendation of a good friend. Dr Liu and his team are amazing! His acupuncture treatment has really helped various problems I've had such as a painful foot and a sore knee. He's also treated me successfully after jaw surgery.
