Small place in a plaza, however these so often are the best. The decor is typical but the food is fresh cooked to order and very good, decent sized portions and a nice variety of ingredients. Very warm and inviting owner. The service was quick, greetings as soon as I entered, sit wherever you want when you enter. Nice soup comes before the meal and the Thai tea is great. MAY BE THE ABSOLUTE WORST RUN RESTAURANT IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY !! No Kidding! WOW, this place is bad! The food is great, *but not any better than you can find three blocks away or a dozen other places in Wichita. HOWEVER, the owner/cook is a truly HORRID person - angry, very rude, unprofessional, unpleasant, pushy, loud Thai lady that needs to do the cooking and have other staff wait tables - but she's the only one there. They run out of rice before the lunch hour, then she stands table side waving here hand-held credit card machine at you while asking you to pay the check while you are eating. The only thing to drink is room temperature water without ice. When I asked if they had iced tea or soft drinks she (you won't believe this but its true) told me to walk over to QuickTrip, a few doors down, to buy the drinks. At first I thought she was putting me on and I laughed, but it turns out she was dead serious. The writers at SNL couldn't make a skit any sillier. She is being evicted from her 13th street location, even though the food is good and there are plenty of customers. If she can't pay the rent here where it's dirt cheap, then I wish her good luck at the next place. Someone should partner up with her, (really!) and allow her to do all the cooking, but have others do everything else - and I'll bet it would be a big success for all. read more

Bann Thai has moved from their location on 13th and West street to Maize road almost to 53rd. Still the same great thai food and new restaurant is nice. As always can be very spicy so knock you spice level down a notch. read more

This is a very small business and I was looking for some good curry. I purchased the yellow curry and was asked how spicy I wanted it. My request was honored and it was perfectly spiced. I came back here, since the location is now close to me. This time I ordered some curry dishes and the pad see ew. The red curry with pineapple was fine, but the penang curry was really good. The noodles were decent. Definitely a better experience this time around. The hours are odd. Like they do dine in for only part of the day and take out for the rest. The menu fits on a single marker board, but it covers the essentials, and is supplemented by the weekly specials. The location is small and the flavors are HUGE. I picked up some carryout last night from Bann Thai. The owner took my order over the phone and was very helpful. Since this was my first visit, she advised that I dial back the amount of heat I requested. I went with her suggestion of mild to medium on the Pad Thai and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of heat. It was definitely spicy, but not too hot. I opted for Chicken in my Pad Thai and there was plenty of it. The flavor was amazing. The crab rangoon appears to be similar top pre-made the kind you get at grocery store Chinese kitchens. However, I believe it is house made. Regardless, they were delicious. I can't wait to eat here again and interact with the owner. She is hilarious. read more

Finally stopped here after driving by many times, and I will definitely be back! The food was homemade with fresh vegetables; always a good sign when there are fresh, not canned, mushrooms. I feel we should have been warned how hot the food is. There is a sign on one of the walls but my back was to it and we were visiting, not looking at the walls. So, I ordered my yellow curry mild-medium. It was so hot I couldn't enjoy it and had to leave most of the liquid which is usually my favorite part. My parents were going to split a meal that was mild-medium and my mom could handle only one bite, and my dad ate his but was miserable as well--and he loves hot stuff. When we arrived, we were the only people on the restaurant. A couple came in shortly after. The owner and only employee came out quickly to greet us and bring us drinks. She explained the spice levels and asked if we had questions about the menu. We ordered the yellow curry and chicken fried rice, both mild. The chicken fried rice was excellent. It was full of chicken and had a bit of a kick. The curry was well made and was both sweet and spicy. Both meals were made to order and were incredibly fresh. Very pleased! The restaurant was super quiet for the first part of our evening which made it awkward to visit, but the owner turned on the tv to a travel show to provide some background noise which was nice. I love this place. The owner is always sweet and helpful. If you love spice, then this is the joint. Their medium beats out most Thai Hot in town. In fact, she tries not to let you order anything hotter than medium if she has not seen you eat medium before! Very clear spice levels are listed on the wall, so it's easy to know what you are getting into. Very authentic food. Extremely small business, so there are some closures, food shortages, etc that you have to sometimes deal with. But I'm good with it because the food is so good! read more

I love Bann Thai. The food is very flavorful even when ordering mild. They have the best spring rolls out of the few thai places in town that I have tried. The atmosphere is comfortable and clean. I generally order Pad Thai. I enjoy spicy food but not a fan of "melt my face off" spicy. so I order a Mild +. and it suits me very well. My kids enjoy their chicken fried rice. This is a favorite place for us to eat. as long as you can catch them when they are open. Occasionally I have called and they don't have spring rolls. That is frustrating but I understand the will happen with small places like this. I still enjoy their food. read more

The absolute best, flavorful Thai food! They are very straight forward in warning and educating their customers about the "heat" in seasonings that can be added to your meal. Each dish is fresh made by the cook who goes home to her homeland every year and brings back the "real" spices and seasonings, making the food really authentic. I read about this place in the paper and it mentioned their reputation for having some of the spiciest Thai food in Wichita. I absolutely LOVE spicy food, especially spicy Thai food, so I made it a point to check this place out this week. I stopped in around 1:30 & placed a to- go order. I saw a sign in the window that said something about only placing to go orders after 1:30, (it was weirdly worded- like only place to-gos between 1:30 - 1:45? I didn't pay much attention to it since it was after 1:30. This may have been in reference to their lunch specials. ??) They had their lunch specials handwritten on a white board & had another board hanging on the wall that explained their heat levels; which range from mild with 1/4 tsp to Thai Hot with 3 TABLESPOONS of chili paste or whatever they use to spice their dishes. The guy who took my order was super helpful & really nice and explained they recommend people new to the restaurant only order dishes at a medium or less, since their hot is super hot compared to other places. I ordered from the lunch specials & got their Thai Broccoli & Crispy Pork -Thai Hot ($9.95), Spicy Basil Beef from their lunch menu for my husband- medium, & Mango w/Sweet Sticky Rice to cool my mouth off afterwards($5.95). I've been hearing about how spicy this place is for a while & after reading some of their Yelp! reviews, I figured I might as well go all in. The lady (who might have been the owner) asked me twice if I was sure I wanted to order it that spicy. Even coming back from the kitchen a 2nd time to ensure I understood how spicy Thai hot would be. (It's written on a white board there are no refunds after you order. Which seems like common sense to me, but okay) I assured her that I understood the food would be extremely spicy and that's what I wanted. I could smell the spiciness from the door, wheweee! Poor thang cooking the order was coughing up a storm & I felt bad, cooking spicy food can be hell when you're standing over the stove breathing in those fumes. The employees were courteous and it took about 10 min or so to cook our orders fresh. Food was excellent! It was cooked perfectly and even though my food was spicy it still had really good flavor to it. I really enjoyed my dish and my husband's was tasty too. He thought even the medium had a little spice to it which he liked. The pork was a little fatty, but it's pork. In the future I'd rather order another form of protein be it: Beef, or chicken, or even fish. They had several fish options which I was glad to see. I was disappointed you don't get the egg roll that comes with the lunch specials on to-gos I understand not doing soups or even salads on Togo orders, but no egg rolls, Sad! That's okay though. Our food was great and I love having a place I can now go when I'm craving spicy food, that's actually spicy. My love for spicy food means my gauge on how spicy food is, is much different from most people. Typically people say something is super hot and to me, it's not. Bann Thai offers over the phone ordering, But the few times I have tried ordering over the phone I was unsuccessful, I ended up going to the restaurant to place a order and asked them about ordering over the phone and they responded "oh we left the phone at home". I did get through for a phone order one time and the waitress taking the order seemed annoyed that she was taking my order, now I know places can get buys but you do not have to be rude to me taking a order that pays for your job. The last time I went I ordered Sukiyaki:Stir-fried clear noodles with shrimp, calamari, chicken, egg, onions, and cabbage, in red tofu sauce. It did not have any shrimp. I also ordered Mixed Fried Rice:Fried white rice with egg, vegetables, chicken, beef, and shrimp. No chicken and no shrimp. When I paid for the meals I asked if the receipt was in the bag...she looked at me quizzically and said no....with a bit of a pause I said " may I have one? she just turned around and went into the back and then came back, she wrote down what I had ordered and then left ( I am sorry to inconvenienced you for a receipt for my order ). Needless to say I took my incomplete meal back to explain that I did not receive any chicken or shrimp and was met the cook who immediately got defensive and without even looking at my meal that I had returned said I ate over half of it and she was not going to offer me a refund..so from the time I got to Bann Thai and explaining what happen to the time I met the cook I said "look I did even ask for a refund I just wanted to let you know that I did not get any chicken or shrimp" She was not having any of it and just argued with me about the meal. I have never met anyone with such contempt about a meal in the restaurant business that they would not ever consider that they might have been in the wrong. This is the only time I have met with such negativity in a restaurant setting. I would not recommend this place to anyone! there are better places to eat in Wichita. read more

Tried this place again for the first time at the 13th & West location. Ordering by phone was a little awkward, as the owner curiously asked me if I had eaten at that location before. She explained in person that people tend to order hotter than they can handle and then complain and want refunds. I imagine that gets old. I ordered the seafood combination fried rice, medium. I love spicy food, and trust me, medium was plenty hot. Tasted great, very fresh, and all of the seafood was delicious. Mussels can get a little funky, but these were spot on. My suggestions for improvement would be to add cashews, and definitely some thai basil. I was the only customer in there at 11:25, so we need to send some business her way! read more
