It's been awhile since I have been here but I met a friend for lunch. We both ordered the same thing. #36 Kao Pad Ru Mit (Combination Fried Rice) which came with Chicken, Shrimp, Beef and Pork. The portion was huge and I took most of it in a To Go Box. We also had a salad with a spring roll. It just wasn't my favorite. I actually found the food to be a bit bland. We had to ask for hot sauce. The shrimp was perfectly cooked though. No dessert menu but they have vegetarian options. There was not many people in the restaurant - even at lunch time. I got the impression that they may be struggling. I just wasn't overly impressed with the food. They were very friendly and I always had water. Takeout from Bangkok Garden: Fast service, nice staff. The food was good, kind of ordinary, but very very generous, and they aren't afraid to go spicy! The kao pad puu crab fried jasmine rice was super-loaded with crab, plus nice flavoring from onions, garlic and green onion, and some egg. I got it unspiced, but I'd say at least do the mild spice. The chicken pad thai fried noodles was of course flavored with peanut crumbles and green onion, with crunchy fresh bean sprouts and some egg. It was so good, i couldnt get a clear photo because we were all diving right in :-). We added a veggie noodle dish with chicken, but I forget exactly which one. These last two were a quite zingy "medium" spicy, but we would have been happy with "mild". We added some fried pork wontons and some bright fresh crunchy spring rolls. We loved the sweet peppery dipping sauce! It's a great takeout place to get the flavors you know in generous amounts :-) Just tune the spiciness to your liking. read more

This is one of a few Bankok Garden restaurants in the area and is smaller. My husband and I were in the mood for Thai and our usual spot was closed so we came here as a backup. Only about another 3 tables inside. They were nice but the food was not as good. I had the thai noodle soup, he had dumpling soup, we got a cucumber salad (the best thing we had) as well as some spring rolls. The soup was bland and when I asked for some mix-in sauces or hot sauces I was only given an assertable of vinegar. So it didn't do what I had hoped for. Service was slow - despite the lack of tables. I think they kind'of stand back unless you wave to them so they were available when we flagged them down, but never came back to see if we needed anything unless we did so. Not a huge issue. All in all, OK, but not as good as other spots we love locally. read more

I gave another star because the wonton was good, probably the best thing we ordered out of the order. I was gunna do 2 but decided to do 3 cuz the wonton was the best out of it all. Mango curry was ok. Spring rolls were not good in our opinion. Not the Taste so much but the texture. Well I guess taste too. It just wasn't there. We have had better elsewhere. Thai fried rice was ok. Nothing special. And the Thai tea was way too sweet and off. Had to add water to it and still was not good. I'd say for now, we've tried this place out and that will be our experience for this place and we'd like to keep looking else where for a better Thai restaurant. Service was ok. It has been a good minute since I've been to Bangkok Garden! I used to go to their Loehmann's Plaza location often years ago when we were stationed here the last time. Lots of great memories made there with colleagues during work lunches. That location may have been the only one back in those days. Nice to see that they've expanded and have quite a number of locations all over Coastal Virginia. We happened to be in the Hilltop area and half of my fam wanted Chick Fil A and the other half wanted Thai, so we split up. - TLC - My oldest and I got there right when it opened on Saturday at noon. We were greeted by a nice lady and was told to sit wherever we wanted. She was attentive throughout the entire visit and was very sweet and patient. - Vibe - The interior is decorated with a lot of Thai accents, with dark wood walls and furniture. They've installed a portion of what typical temples and houses look like in Thailand, complemented by Buddha artwork. It took me back to my trips to Thailand when I was a spring chicken. The decor adds to the experience. - Noms - Thai Tea - tasty, but holy geez, this thing is huge, like gas station super size me huge. It's like they give you the refill at the same time, before you ask. I took half of it to go. Seafood tom yum - my only gripe of this entire meal was with this soup. The the scallop did not seem fresh and did not seem to be cooked all the way through. Almost like it was frozen, thawed and thrown into the soup. Had that spongy texture. The broth itself was great and also had shrimp and salmon along with some onions and tomatoes. Beef pad kapau - this is one of my go-to items on the menu. My previous colleague got me on it and I loved it so much, I looked up a recipe and I make it at home from time to time. (It's actually a lot easier to make than I thought). This dish is quite aromatic with the addition of sprigs of Thai basil and the sauce on it is just so tasty. I added some extra eggplant to the dish to get some more veggie ratio. Beef pad seew - I ordered this for my oldest as she loves rice noodles and beef and broccoli which is perfect for her. For both beef dishes though, I found the beef to be a bit tough. The portions are quite generous and I ordered a little too much for myself and my oldest, even though she has quite the appetite. It made great leftovers the next day and we got another meal out of it. Glad to see that they have more locations throughout Coastal VA which makes it more convenient to get our Thai fix! We were craving Thai so we decided to come for lunch! It was pretty busy for lunch time but we were able to walk in and get a table for 10. Most of us ordered the Thai ice tea to start and when it came out, we were surprised at how huge it was. This was definitely a good deal! I couldn't even finish half, it was really good though. We then ordered our meals. I got the papaya salad & beef massaman curry and my husband got the combo pad Thai. We didn't realize that the lunch also came with a small side salad and an egg roll. Both of our dishes were very good. The papaya salad was fresh and seasoned perfectly. It did have a mild kick to it so it wasn't too spicy. We were so full from all that food but we couldn't leave without getting the mango sticky rice and we made the right choice by ordering it. The sticky rice with the mango slices had a nice balance of flavors and kept you wanting more and more. I could eat this dessert everyday!! Really sad with our experience, ordered a few items to eat family style. We have young children so we ordered everything mild. The food was so spicy our kids couldn't eat a thing and even the adults who normally add a bit of chili oil to the dish were struggling with it. Now I have to make food for the children. The restaurant is clean and the bathrooms are well kept. Our food arrived quickly. I loved that our thai teas come in huge glasses because they don't do free refills. It wasn't too sweet either. I did take out tonight. Tasty yes!!! Price was sky high for a meal and a soup! $40!!! Whoa! The meal left me feeling like I'd gotten robbed so I didn't really enjoy it. It was the beef prick king and seafood soup (1/2 pot) for two. There was a notice in the door of a slight price increase. I won't be getting ripped like that again so just won't be back until the price meets the dish. Beef was minimal, plenty of onions though. I hope they get it right but just can't feel good about paying $42 dollars for mostly veggies, rice and water with a bit of beef and scarce seafood in the soup. This is some of the best Thai I've had in a long time. I got sweet basil tofu with vegetables and my dad got chicken pad khing. They made a vegan Thai tea for me with coconut cream. The spices in the sauce were perfect and the serving size was normal, not enough to overeat. The food also came out very fast and our waitress was very attentive. Bangkok Garden is a local chain with six locations in the 757. My favorite location is the one in Loehmann's Plaza. This one is usually pretty great too though. I feel like they tend to be a little slower than the Loehmann's one, but maybe that's just because I'm more on the go when I'm in the Hilltop area. Regardless of which location I've visited the food has been consistent. I'm a fan! My go to is just the simple pad thai chicken, medium spicy and some Tom Kha Gai soup. I'll sometimes get their summer rolls as my main dish if I'm wanting something lighter than noods. That peanut sauce is addicting. I'm also a fan of their curries with the masman being my favorite- I love the pineapple and peanuts! It's not my top spot, but when I don't feel like going out of my way this is always a solid option for Thai in the Hilltop/Oceanfront area. read more

Although there are four (4) locations total in Hampton Roads, the Hilltop location is by far my favorite...followed by the one located in the Salem area. Can we say "PadKaNa Beef!!" This Devine Thai dish is so savory. Y'all, I meant to take a pic, but I honestly was half way through my meal before I remembered (I just couldn't help myself). But, I did manage to get a few other pics for you. The ambience is most relaxing to me. I love the dark wood and golden trinket decorations. I also enjoy the chicken spring rolls and delicious dressing on the salad. What I like most about my Thai food experience is I feel like I am eating healthier. I truly don't eat Chinese food anymore (except for PF Chang's) because I don't view the quality worthy compared to the dishes I receive at Bangkok. Ordered some carry out while visiting Virginia Beach. Unfortunately, most of what we ordered wasn't that authentic. First with the good: the chicken Pad Thai was good, though a little on the sweet side. All the food was served very hot and was made fresh. The restaurant included chop sticks, plastic ware, and napkins in the bag. Now with the not so good: the beef Lad Nah was made with skinny Kway Teow noodles instead of the wide noodles you normally see in Lad Nah. Consequently, the noodle texture wasn't very good. Also, they used American broccoli instead of the Chinese broccoli which alters the taste and texture of the dish. Finally, the gravy was quite thin and watery, so all in all a disappointing dish. Also not so good was the pork larb with rice. Unfortunately, they squeezed lemon instead of lime. Lime is what is traditionally used for this spicy salad, so it didn't taste as it should. Maybe we are spoiled with the authentic Thai food from we are used to back home, but all in all more disappointment than satisfaction with this order thus the two star rating. read more

Well it finally has happened.. My prior review was 3 stars because of one of the meals got changed. I'm glad to state that the Kao pad is back in full swing. With that, and the fact that the service when calling in an order is always fast (10 mins), they always get the order correct, letting me order extra lemons with no additional charge, and the decent pricing I'm raising it to 5 stars. I've been here many, many times. Long before I started charting my whereabouts on yelp. These days I always place the same order: Crab Fried rice and sticky rice with mango. The dessert is delectable, sweet, satisfying, and it plain ole makes me happy every time I eat it. The crab fried rice never disappoints although the onions are cut so large, I wish they were a bit smaller. I really do love the crab fried rice it never disappoints and I'm always happy to have it. And I always want it. The rice to crab ratio is usually more than acceptable.The staff are always pleasant. My food is always ready promptly when I call my order in and go to pick it up. Pretty decent Thai food for the Virginia Beach area. The seating is very close inside the restaurant but not so much that you feel crowded. The service is fast and accurate with everything coming out exactly as ordered. The food is delicious, especially the pad kee mao and their coconut curries. Definitely give their spring rolls a try as well. The vegetable spring rolls were the best ones we tried and they come with quite a few of the lunchtime entrees. Spice level is definitely gauged for stereotypical "white people" which is honestly not a bad business practice around here lol, but they will definitely kick it up a notch if you ask them to.
