    SPICY BASIL FRIED RICE

I was in Virginia Beach for a church service with my family and after service we ordered delivery from here. Now you never know with takeout but I was pleasantly surprised! Usually brown rice doesn't indicate good. It should be more red. This was one of the best Thai restaurants I tried. Everyone loved the food. I definitely have to eat in when I come back.

Several years later and my sentiments haven't changed - good overall but comparatively behind a few other local Thai fave spots for quality and value (Bangkok Garden, Rhama Thai). Location is convenient, closest Thai place to my place of work; each time I go, I have friendly service though it takes a while to get food. Lettuce wraps and Chicken Garlic this trip. I'd get them both again.

This was my Togo leftovers of my Pad Thai so delicious!!!

Thai is one of my "Goto Spots" for comfort food, so I was hoping Tida Thai would not disappoint in my quest for the flavorful numbing of my worries and thoughts. I started off with their Crab Rangoon, and what a surprise to have actual morsels of crab in the perfect fried pastry!!!! Ok now Tida, I'm feeling the comfort, let's see how you console me with your Combination Pad Thai. And boy did that dish haul off and give my stomach a big Ole bear hug from the inside!!! Generous portions of meat, noddles just right and they gave me just the right portion of peanuts!!! The dish itself you could share at the table if that greedy selfish spirit doesn't kick in, or you can take home the leftovers because it did re-heat very well!!!! The menu was fairly priced, the service was excellent and the restaurant although small was very inviting. Neatly tucked in a strip mall off of The Blvd directly across the street from The Cheesecake Factory and PF Changs. Stop in and make sure you treat yourself to the Crab Rangoons, I'd drive there just for those alone!!!!

Service was amazing! I was immediately greeted and seated. Food was also great! Came out super quick and food was fresh! Favorite was probably the fried calamari, it didn't just fall apart like what i was used too. Everything was so flavorful and would definitely come back!

Tida Thai offers wonderful hospitality and delicious food. We were visiting Virginia Beach and saw this Thai restaurant located near our hotel in the Virginia Beach Town Center. We stopped by to place an order for take out as they were about to close. This quaint restaurant was dimly lit, creating an intimate ambiance. We ordered Beef Pad See Ew and Combination Fried Rice. I thought the fried rice was good. The pad see ew, however, was just okay. The flat noodles were a little overcooked for my preference and the taste was slightly sweeter than I expected. I did appreciate them being open, as we were really craving some Thai food. The lady who helped us was very nice, as was an older woman (maybe the owner's mother?) who greeted us with her warm smile.

Tida is the closest Thai place to our house, so we've been itching to try it since we moved to the area. We ordered online, which is a smooth process and were given a 20 minute wait time. We got there right around the specified time and our order was ready to go. Very convenient. Customer service was friendly and efficient when we picked up, as well. Although we didn't eat there, I walked in for pickup and the atmosphere was clean and welcoming. Let's talk food. Pricing is comparable to other places, but maybe just a bit high for what you get. We tried 3 appetizers: the wrapped Shrimp, the crab wontons and the calamari. The crab wontons are the only one of the 3 that I would order again. Calamari was chewy, overcooked and oily. We had high hopes for it, since many other reviews mention it being fantastic, but it sadly was not. The shrimp was also oily and had an oil flavor that overpowered the delicacy of shrimp. We also found that the dipping sauce they serve with all 3 appetizers simply wasn't very good. On a positive note, the crab wontons were pretty good. We also got one entree to share; the Pad See Ew, which is always a favorite of mine. Flavor was great, but the noodles were very over cooked and mushy... to the point that they were all stuck together in clumps. There weren't any bites that offered a complete noodle. Food didn't hit the mark this night, but since service, convenience and atmosphere were all positive, I would potentially give them another try, especially since others state that they are great.

My friends from out of town were craving Thai, so we wanted to take them to a nice place! We were a big group of 8, and Tida Thai did a great job accommodating us! The server was super nice and receptive. We had our meal family style, and it was easy to get extra plates to do that. Service was really awesome honestly! The place has a nice ambiance and is tucked away in the corner of this shopping strip. The yellow hues are beautiful. We were a bit loud, but normally it is fairly quiet. Sorry!! A great place for a date. :) The food was great! It came out pretty fast which was surprising because we ordered a bunch. I first got the blue Thai tea, and I love the sweet pea taste. A great twist of the OG Thai tea. The Satay and the sampler were delicious. We were already starting to get full from the apps. I'm a big appetizer fan myself, and these apps were super satisfying. I love the sauces that come with everything, that's what really makes it!! All the food was super flavorful and packed a punch. You can tell they used a lot of herbs and spices to make it so good. We got beef krapow, pad Thai, pad see ew, drunken noodle, crabmeat fried rice, and the eggplant stir fry. The only reason why I give them a 4 is because the pad see ew and drunken noodles were a bit too soft. I wish they were firmer. I would love to go again and try the food at a spicier level. My friends don't prefer spicy, so we tried to keep it mild for them.

Our favorite Thai restaurant!! Great owner with friendly, attentive staff. We have loved everything we've eaten here. Homemade pasta pad see ew, pad thai, garlic beef, mango sticky rice, everything is delicious!! Beautiful store with relaxing atmosphere.

I haven't had Thai food in YEARS but this place hooked it up!!! Absolutely fantastic appetizers and completely delicious and tender and fresh. I could eat ten pounds of that crispy fried tofu I found my new favorite dish, the spicy basil fried rice my friends ordered curry and they were very good too! And the papaya salad was fresh and crunchy, but it is pretty spicy 4.8 stars only due to the bar being out of several drinks on the menu and the music was very weird But 10/10 would go again! Going now! Getting in my car for some of that fried rice!!

Tida Thai is a local Thai restaurant franchise with three locations currently listed on their website. Its name translates as "Daughter Of Thailand." The two other locations are in the Red Mill Commons Shopping Center in Virginia Beach and at Kiln Creek in Newport News. Another one in downtown Norfolk operates independently from the others. It was the former Rama Garden, which was taken over and renamed as Tida Thai Cuisine last year by the son of the original owner and founder of the Tida Thai franchise. The first and original location opened in Chesapeake in 2003, which is no longer there. If I heard my server correctly, this one is its second location and opened in 2009. This location is stationed in the Pembroke East Shoppes, a strip mall that is also home to Judy's Sichuan Cuisine only a few steps away. Colorful lights greet the eyes as you enter with a small bar at the very end of the main dining room. There is a second dining room with more subdued lighting to the right. Lunch time diners are given the lunch menu during the weekdays, which is separate from their dinner menu. Their dinner menu is given to diners all day on Saturdays and Sundays. I have tried the following to date: TOM KHA WITH CHICKEN: Chicken with a Creamy Coconut Milk Broth, Hot and Sour Lemongrass, Mushrooms, and Cilantro. Galangal, an important ingredient for this soup, was not listed. I found the mushrooms overwhelming in proportion to the chicken and other ingredients. It was served at a Thai hot spice level to my satisfaction, and its overall taste was still passable. My Rating: 3 Stars. THAI STEAMED DUMPLINGS: Six Dumplings with Ground Shrimp, Chicken, Mushrooms, and Water Chestnuts served with a Sweet Soy Sauce. The dumplings were beautifully presented on a banana leaf atop a tree trunk platform. Their textures were tender and melted in my mouth. The flavors of their fillings came through beautifully. The sweetness of the soy dipping sauce was nicely subdued. This was a winner. My Rating: 5 Stars. BLUE THAI TEA: This was a new one to me. It sparkled with a beautiful blue hue and delivered a cool refreshing taste with a level of sweetness that was just right. Its blue color comes from Butterfly Pea Flowers, a plant that is native to Asia and known for its healthy antioxidant properties. My Rating: 5 Stars. DRUNKEN NOODLES: Flat Wide Rice Noodles with Onions, Scallions, Bell Peppers, Fresh Basil, Chili, and Garlic. The Thai name of this dish is Pad Kee Mao. Its Thai hot spice level was satisfactory. Some of the noodles were overcooked and delivered an oily aftertaste with a preparation I found to be overly sauced. I would have also liked a greater dominance of basil with fewer bell peppers. Otherwise, I found it passable for an Americanized version. My Rating: 3 Stars. PAD THAI WITH CHICKEN: Rice Noodles with Chicken, Bean Sprouts, Scallions, Egg, and Crushed Peanuts in a Sweet and Tangy Tamarind Sauce. The noodles were cooked satisfactorily. Overall, I found this to be a typical Americanized version of this classic Thai dish. There were no preserved radishes or salty dried shrimp for a more authentic version. The tamarind sauce delivered a syrupy texture and overly sweet flavor that should have leaned more toward the sour side. I was able to balance the flavors a bit more from their spice tray. My Rating: 3 Stars. KAPAO SPECIAL WITH EGG: Minced Chicken, Bell Peppers, Basil, Chili, and Garlic served with Jasmine Rice. Topped with a Fried Egg. This is how this dish is served in Thailand, and I was glad to see it offered here. I have ordered it twice so far--once from their lunch menu and once from their dinner menu. The lunch version was the more satisfactory version. Basil is the dominant flavor in this dish, and it came through nicely. I would have liked to have seen a few less bell peppers. My Rating: 4 Stars. The dinner menu version actually came with a smaller portion and a higher price tag. Its basil flavor was not as nearly as dominant, which was a disappointment. My Rating: 2 Stars. MANGO & STICKY RICE DESSERT: Their version of this classic Thai dessert was beautifully presented on a banana leaf. The mango was sweet and tender. Underneath was a layer of coconut milk and a beautiful mound of warm purple sticky rice that was profoundly delicious. Thai Purple Rice is also known as Riceberry Rice, a hybrid of two varieties of Jasmine Rice that was developed in Thailand by the Rice Science Institute at Kasetsart University in 2002. This might be the best version of this dessert I have ever tasted. My Rating: 5-Plus Stars. When I crunch the food numbers, they average out to 3.75 stars, which is enough to round up to a soft 4-star rating. Service was friendly in spite of being understaffed. I would gladly make a return visit for their Blue Thai Tea, Steamed Dumplings, Mango Sticky Rice Dessert, and another dish I have yet to try, such as their Salmon Kapao or Duck Curry.

One Sat I was in the mood for some Pad Thai. After searching Yelp I found there was a place really close to me so I headed there. I never would have seen this place as much as I travel to that area. It's tucked in a little strip mall behind Michael's and Panera Bread. It's a cute and very clean establishment. I was greeted as soon as I walked in. The lady at the bar handed me and menu and I ordered Pad Thai with shrimp. My order came up fairly fast. There were about 3 tables dining in as well. The Pad Thai was delicious. The only reason I took off a star is because the portion size is smaller than other places and the price was a little steep. We're in Town Center so I have to expect that. Other than that the happy hour menu looks pretty do good so I think I'll try that next!

I chose the $25 option, which included an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert. For the appetizer, I picked the shrimp rolls and crab rangoons. You get two shrimp rolls and four crab rangoons with a side of sauce. It was a really solid starter--perfect to hold you over until the main dish. I also loved that it was a duo, so you didn't have to choose between the two. That was definitely a plus. For my entrée, I ordered the shrimp pad thai, and this was actually my first time ever trying pad thai. I wanted to try something different, and I'm so glad I did because it was really, really good. I would honestly go back just for this dish alone. The shrimp was cooked well, the noodles had the perfect amount of flavor, and the portion size was very satisfying. No complaints at all. For dessert, you can choose between coconut ice cream or fried bananas. My friend got the coconut ice cream, and I got the fried bananas, and we ended up splitting both. Together? Delicious. They do offer them together as part of the $35 option, but since we both did the $25, we just shared--and it worked out perfectly. The customer service was also great. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. They kept our table clean, cleared plates quickly after each course, and checked on us throughout the meal. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, professional, and happy to give recommendations. Overall, I would definitely go back to try more of their food. I started with the chicken spring rolls, and they were perfect. Light, crisp, and clearly made fresh. Then came the red curry... and honestly, this is where they won me over completely. I have eaten a lot of Thai food over the years, at restaurants all over, and this was by far the best red curry I have ever had. The coconut curry was incredibly rich but not heavy, with deep layers of flavor that tasted slow crafted rather than rushed. The spice level warmed you without overpowering the dish, and every bite tasted intentional. The chicken was tender, the vegetables fresh, and the sauce was so good I didn't want to leave a drop behind. You can tell when a restaurant cooks with pride and care, and this place absolutely does.
