We were in a VRBO in Bandon when the battery in our Toyota Tundra died. The Toyota dealership in…read moreLas Vegas had supposedly checked it and given us the all clear to drive up to Oregon so we worried that there was a drain or something wrong with the starter or the alternator. We also worried that it was Wednesday and we were due to move out of the VRBO Saturday morning! We called Bandon Auto Repair Wednesday afternoon, and James came right to the house with a charger. He assured us that though they are closed on Friday and Saturday, he would test the alternator at the shop and, if it needed to be replaced, he would order the part and work on it Thursday until it was installed and the battery was fully functioning. The alternator tested out ok though it would need replacement eventually. We drove home to Vegas without incident and didn't have to sleep on the streets with all of our stuff! If you have any trouble with your vehicle while in Bandon, you can be assured that Bandon Auto Repair is the place to call!

These are flat-out good people, and very talented technicians. During a two-month RV trip along the…read moreOregon coast, the accelerator on my rig suddenly quit working while driving on Highway 101. Fortunately, I managed to coast onto a shoulder that was just wide enough to pull over semi-safely. Because it was Memorial Day weekend, breaking down was a worst-case scenario. When AAA asked where I wanted to be towed, I was at a complete loss since I'm not from the area. The nearest town was Bandon. After looking at a few limited options on my phone, I chose Bandon Auto Repair. I could not have made a better choice. The crew at Bandon Auto Repair is made up of incredibly talented, compassionate professionals. They correctly diagnosed the problem and ordered the necessary parts. It wasn't a straightforward fix--the replacement part actually arrived defective (which was no fault of theirs)--but they quickly figured it out, sourced a new part, and got me back on the road. Throughout the entire stressful ordeal, they kept me completely at ease. Thank you, James, Kenny, and Austin. You truly are the best!

These guys are total pros. I was in a real pinch, driving up from California to Portland. I ended…read moreup getting a flat tire about ten miles outside of Bandon. I went to a tire repair shop that didn't have the right tools to actually fix my tire. I was getting desperate as it was already 4:20pm, and most tire repair shops closed by 5pm. I needed to be in Portland that evening and was at risk of missing a critical engagement. I called these guys while I was on the road, and shared my situation. They were totally empathetic, as I had to keep pulling over to rehydrate the tire with air. I finally got there with just a few minutes to spare and they stayed open for me well past closing time to put on a brand new tire. They didn't complain about it, they didn't charge me more money, they just said no problem and serviced the car. Within an hour of my arrival, I'd paid a fair bill and was well on my way to Portland. I ended up making my engagement that evening, and that wouldn't have happened without the kindness and support of South Coast Tire Pros. I really appreciate businesses like this that solve problems for people at a reasonable cost. This is a great business and I highly recommend them.

My vehicle went down north of Gold Beach. My partner and I decided to have it towed to South Coast…read moreTire & Auto in Bandon after being told how great it was. No so. The vehicle had lost compression on three of four cylinders, with the fourth apparently only at 30%. It needed serious work, but at 300K miles, that wasn't a big surprise despite us being very diligent in keeping her maintained. The owner refused to discuss options for us, implying that we were fools for even thinking of having her fixed ("the cost far outweighs the vehicle's value" was his exact quote), and then refused to give us service. We had towed her to this "great place" at the cost of almost $400 for nothing. He didn't suggest another mechanic or garage; he didn't provide any more information than that I listed above about her compression; and his attitude was condescending and grumpy. It was clear we were wasting his precious time. He implied that, because of the age of the vehicle--30 years--that finding parts were going to be next to impossible. It was the scrap heap for our car, that's it, now get it off of my lot. We went home and called a familiar mechanic in Brookings, who located the needed parts within a day, then provided us a detailed quote via email (PDF) on repair costs and time needed to get the job done. That mechanic didn't judge us for wanting to repair our vehicle instead of throwing her away; he treated us with respect and consideration. Today we had her towed all the way down there for an additional ungodly sum. There are some of us who refuse to engage with consumer culture, buy the latest, when it breaks toss it away, always upgrade, spend, spend, spend, go in debt, and destroy the world in the process. Some of us don't believe in planned obsolescence, and fight it daily whenever and however we can. South Coast Tire and Auto ... clean business? Sure. Good rep? Given. Willing to help? Not so much. Willing to list options? Nope. Judgy? You bet. Though we live in Port Orford, and they are much closer to Brookings, we'll have our girl serviced in Brookings. They actually care.
