    Club Sandwich

We brought our 4 kids in before a soccer game and we were served very quickly. The kids liked their cheeseburgers and Mac & Cheese. I had the club sandwich , which was huge and my wife had the salmon.

    Slap Ya Momma Shrimp

Went for a late lunch with a friend. I had a Philly cheesesteak sandwich...and they had the Slap Ya Momma Shrimp appetizer. Both were very good and tasty. Food was hot and fresh. Service was good. Restaurant and bathrooms were clean. Definitely looking forward to going back again.

I have been trying to think of the right words for this review. My mom dines here a lot so I need to be as gentle as possible. The town this restaurant is in does not have more than 5 restaurants other than fast food. Maybe even less than that. So, for this restaurant to be busy is understandable. The location it used to be was so cute and a place that was inviting. This location is in the middle of a run down Food Lion shopping center. No big deal as I have found some of the best hidden gems are found in places like that. The restaurant itself is mainly set up like a large diner. There are two separate huge rooms. It looks like it used to be some kind of theater or dance club or maybe an American Legion? The decor makes no sense and they still use handwritten tickets and you pay at the counter. It was definitely not very clean or neat and tidy. Not dirty where I wouldn't eat there, but ripped chairs and boxes in the halls. Still, none of this would have mattered. This restaurant definitely caters to fattening, hearty, soul food. I eat very healthy so it was hard for me me to find anything on the menu that I wanted. I chose the catch which was rainbow trout (never had it.) To be honest, I was afraid to try their salmon and tuna due to my high standards. The rainbow trout was not something I would order again but it was cooked well. The salad with it was a large size. My mom loved it while I found it just OK. She ordered chicken tenders and I could tell that they were homemade. I took a bite and they were delicious. I also took a bite of the macaroni and cheese and it was barely warm but had a decent flavor. The seafood platters and sandwiches people were getting looked really good. Like I said, you don't go here to eat healthy. My son had the pork chops here before and he loves them. My biggest concern was the lack of friendliness from our server (who was the owner.) No personality at all and I understand that she was busy but she acted as if I was annoying her by asking questions. I was thrown off by that. Maybe she was just having a bad day??? Anyways, come here for reasonable fattening food and don't expect a fancy, clean space. Don't expect great customer service but it's better than the fast food in town.

Nice hidden little gem in Burgaw. The food has been hit or miss in my experiences, but the staff is very friendly and service is fast.

Excellent friendly service. The catfish and flounder were very good. Delicious fried okra and hushpuppies.

Nothing felt rushed, nothing felt careless, and everything felt intentional. The staff's quiet professionalism allowed the evening to unfold naturally, which mattered deeply to all of us. This was the kind of place Bill would have been proud of--a place worthy of gathering with friends, sharing stories, and honoring a life well lived. We couldn't have chosen a better setting to remember him, and we will carry this night with us. Lake Park Steakhouse is more than a good meal. It's a place that understands hospitality in the fullest sense of the word.

The staff was attentive and even signed a card for my friend to say congratulations. You can tell this place is for the locals. Overall, would recommend to out of towner's but keep some things in mind.

The service was friendly and attentive, and we started the evening with a bottle of Cambria Katherine's Vineyard Chardonnay (2023), which was a nice way to begin dinner. Unfortunately, the food this time around just didn't live up to what we remember. We started with the Asian Tots, which used to be one of the best items on the menu. In the past, the peanut sauce was poured over the top so everything came together as one dish. Now it's served in a small cup on the side, and there isn't enough of it to properly coat the tots. They also stopped finishing the dish with the salt they used to sprinkle on top, and even the presentation has changed -- the silver dome they once used is gone. What used to be a great appetizer has been reduced to something that's simply okay. For the main courses, the results were mixed but mostly disappointing. My blackened chicken was a little overcooked. My wife ordered the miso salmon, and that was overcooked as well -- which is especially noticeable with fish. When salmon goes past the sweet spot it quickly becomes dry, and that seemed to be the case here. None of the food was terrible, but none of it really stood out either. Dessert didn't help much. I ordered the carrot cake, but what arrived looked more like a small cupcake buried under a heavy amount of icing, with a large mound of whipped cream on the side. There wasn't much actual cake there, and it wasn't what I expected from a carrot cake dessert. One thing that stood out during the meal is that it feels like the kitchen may be constantly adjusting dishes -- moving sauces, changing presentations, tweaking things that didn't necessarily need fixing. In restaurants, sometimes the best move is to pick a lane and execute it consistently rather than continually modifying dishes that customers already liked. So here's the bottom line. Rumcow is not the Rumcow of yesteryear. Was the food terrible? No. But it was mostly meh, and that may be the most disappointing part. This used to be a place known for memorable dishes and small details done right. Right now it feels like a restaurant that has drifted away from what made it special. The atmosphere and service are still good, but the food just doesn't match the reputation it once had.
