And in those rare situations that I've seen specials from other florists and tried them out I've often been disappointed. We also used them for the funeral flowers for my father's funeral a couple of years ago and more recently for my grandmother's funeral. Everyone has had glowing things to say about the arrangements. I have lived in Cedar Falls for about 20 years, and I have never ordered flowers from Bancroft before, so I thought I'd give them a try. I was traveling on business and I thought I would send my wife a nice arrangement "Just Because." I spent $48.00 on a Deluxe arrangement to have them delivered while I was away. I got back from my trip the day they were supposed to be delivered, but no flowers had arrived. I immediately called and left a message and also shot Bancroft an email. Found out there was a message on the machine that they were trying to deliver them, but wanted to verify that my wife was going to be home for delivery - no problem, completely understand that. Our internet phone service was down all day and didn't come back up until that evening, so my wife never got the message. No biggie. The flowers arrived the next day and my daughter answered the door to retrieve the flowers and the delivery person was extremely rude. Unfortunately, I was traveling again, and my wife sent me a picture of the flowers thanking me for the arrangement. I immediately noticed that the arrangement were all carnations, not roses (with some carnations) like I ordered. In addition, the vase was much smaller. I shot an email to Bancroft requesting a refund on the flowers. I would never have spent $48 on a carnation-only arrangement. This is the response email I received from Bancroft copied verbatim: "We sent you an email several days ago regarding our mistake in not putting the roses in your bouquet and asked you at that time if we could make it right with you -- just now getting your response. ??? Again, unless you would want your flowers left outside in Iowa at this time of the year to freeze we do not attempt to deliver to the recepient until we know via phone that they will be home to receive them. Your wife did not respond to our phone call until the next day -- That is why they were delivered the next day. What else are we to do? I will refund your money completely. Please use another florist in the future since nothing we have offered to do seems to please you.. Philip Batchelder, owner - Bancroft' s" There are several things wrong with this email. They never sent an email telling me they made a mistake with not putting roses in the arrangement. Never. Secondly, I sent them an email on Monday, and like I said, I was gone all weekend from Friday until Monday. I wrote him an email requesting a refund when I returned after not hearing anything from them. I have no problems with the fact that flowers were not left on the porch, in fact, I am thankful. So the comment about offering me something is completely false. They never offered to make this right until I had to call their bluff on the fact that there were not any roses in the arrangement at all. I had a spectacularly bad and disappointing experience here. I went to the shop in person to order flowers for a very important event. I was quite specific about what I wanted--size, color, kind of flowers, color of ribbon, and when I would pick them up. I had a 10-minute conversation with the woman working there about what I wanted. The day I was to pick up the flowers I called to let them know what time I would be coming, as it was two hours later than I'd originally said. I arrived to pick up the flowers on my way to the event. They brought out a large arrangement of flowers in a vase instead of the bouquet I'd ordered. I was completely flabbergasted at the error. A man working there scolded me for coming to pick them up so close to the time of the event, as if I was somehow to blame for their outrageous screw-up, and told me that the event would just have to start "a few minutes late." I made a conscious decision at that point not to get angry but to get the problem fixed as much as it could be and to get out (and never to come back, although my family has been ordering flowers from Bancroft's for more than 20 years). The arrangement did not even include the white hydrangeas that were supposed to be the primary flower in the bouquet, and included carnations, which I detest. To her credit, a (different) woman, who I assume was the owner, apologized and did what she could to scramble something together that would approximate what I wanted. She did apologize, and also did not charge me for the flowers. There was no explanation offered for how in the world this could have gone so wrong. read more

I choose to go to Bancroft's for my wedding flowers, because they are a long standing local floral shop and I've always heard great things about the place. When I went in to discuss what I wanted and prices I was greeted with a friendly woman who sat down with me and went over exactly what I wanted for the big day. She was very clear and concise with her questions and comments which made me very comfortable that she understood what I wanted. She was also very open and up front about pricing. The day of the wedding we picked up the flowers and I could not have been more happy with them. They were gorgeous, exactly what I wanted and more. Worst Florists -- would never recommend. I live out of State and ordered my mom some Mothers Day flowers. Gave specific instructions that she does not answer phone to go ahead and deliver. Guess what? They didn't deliver and when I called and talked to the manager "Phil" he was so rude and didn't care. When I said I was going to call Teleflora and lodge a complaint he said "Good Luck" and hung up on me. As Rhonda says " would never recommend" she is right.The worst flower shop in the Cedar Valley. I called to order some flowers for my mom and the woman on the other line was very rude. I ordered them around 3:30 PM and she told me they can be sent out today because we are closing soon...although they close at 5 PM. I called the next day and it was the same woman, despite that she was still rude and I ended up hanging up on her. I mean this is a business, you are suppose to treat your customers with respect and dignity....after all they are coming to you for your services. Bancroft Flowers you rely on customers to stay in business, although there are many people in this world I can for sure you...when a few or many people are disssatisfied with your service they will make it known to never ever pay for your services or even consider you as an option.
