It provides a decidedly old-school foil a sleek, clean modern dining room, which foreshadows the meal ahead: classic French, prepared anew. In finer weather, the expansive patio would be ideal for an al fresco meal. Either way, the floor-to-ceiling windows provide a picturesque view of Burgundian Grand Cru vineyards along the ridge above. In fabulous style, the service is perfect, unobtrusive, yet generous. For lunch, it's hard to go wrong with the Menu du Jour, two plates for 19E, three for 25E. The rabbit terrine, expertly made, rich and nuanced, served with a biting whole mustard. Pumpkin soup, spiced beautifully for the season, was creamy, soft, and warming. The chicken ballotine stuffed with herbs and laid over filling red lentils cooked in sultry demi-glace. To pair, the wine list is expansive and filled with Burgundy, at suitable prices. Castel de Tres Girard's on the must-do list for any trek on the Route de Grand Cru.

Can I reflect upon the perfection of these eggs for a moment? Indulge me. The burgundy version was great - a light, herb filled sauce that wasn't too salty and clearly homemade. But that Epoisses cream? Incredible - I used up a pile of bread on the sauce because it was perfect. I am currently sad that I am not eating that sauce right now and for the rest of my days. It is a traditional dish in that region of France and I highly recommend! This place is so cozy. We stayed here for probably 3.5 hours. There was no rush. And why Le Tigre? 1) This isn't a fancy brasserie. 2) This is just a small neighbourhood local spot. 3) I have never had lunch here. 4) I've never had a drink here. So why the review? I ate breakfast here almost every day in Dijon. It was close to where I was staying, and I really really liked the owner. He really has such a fabulous attitude for a small local brasserie. Oh, and there is an artists' rendition of him (shaved head and all) on the menu cover! I wondered if his nickname was "The Tiger?" Hm....... The breakfast offerings were quite simple. Your choice of croissant or baguette. Both were quite good and sadly better than anything we can get in Vancouver, even though this is just a small local place that doesn't bake their own. Your choice of coffee or tea. Again nothing fancy. Pure simple honest food. The thing I like about the owner though? Even though breakfast was so simple, he was sitting behind the bar reading a cookbook! He is constantly trying to learn new techniques, and it left us wondering why we didn't visit for lunch to try his cooking - I suppose for another trip!
