The falafel sandwich is an abomination and shouldn't be served at all, the fixings they put on top of the sandwiches don't have distinct flavor . The shawarma sandwich was probably the best thing out of this mess. We tried the vegetarian carrot soup and it was unique and tasted good. We also tried the Brazilian fruit drink and it didn't taste like anything . I would skip this place

Another country, another McDonald's to check off my list. The cool part about the McDonald's menu…read morein Portugal is that there are a few notable items you do not find anywhere else, particularly the sopas (soup). There are a few sopa options that come in two sizes. I was able to try the Spinach and Garbanzo Beans (€1.30 for small) and Vegetable Soup since the rest were unavailable. The soup is a nice addition to the menu, although they could really use more flavor. In addition, I also tried the McRoyal Bacon (€3.85) and Cheese & Ham Croissant with Mango Juice (€2.10). Both items were pretty standard, but McDonald's is always a nice go-to for a quick and cheap bite. This particular location has a nice outdoor seating area, which was quite peaceful. It is also super convenient to the famous Pasteis de Belem, which is only across the street.

It has character with cobblestoned streets and outdoor restaurant patios nearby. The bifanas are exceptional but pirri pirri sauce and mustard is required to give it that zing. Splash it on! The bun is fresh and delicious baked perfectly. If you come to Lisbon, do not leave without trying this establishment!

Bifanas are a classic Portuguese sandwich made with simmered pork. It's a fast, cheap meal across…read morethe country - and arguably no place is as famous for these as As Bifanas do Afonso. It's a tiny takeout-only counter, but the lines can get very long here. When I arrived, it was mid-afternoon, so only about five or so people. They're very quick with the food as well - I got mine, the classic one (no cheese), about a minute after ordering. The sandwich overall was pretty good. It's not meant to be a full meal - more like a snack or a breakfast type - it's not very large. The pork is alright, but a little tough. It's not very juicy, as there are certain parts that feel leather-ish. It did grow on me as I kept eating though, and towards the end I started to like it more. The bread is actually quite good; crispy on the top and yet the hollowed-out inside stays fluffy. They have mustard and chili oil on a side table for you to add - and this is much needed. The moisture from these helps so much with the sandwich, and especially the mustard just adds that different flavor that prevents it from being just plain pork. Oh yeah, and it's super cheap - at just 3 euros. Overall, it's not amazing food, but for how cheap it is it gets the job done. 8/10

Food Truck in Belem…read more We were visiting the Monastery Jeronimos and walked along the Rio Tajo afterwards. Feeling quite hungry we looked for a place to grab some little lunch. That's when we spotted this Food Truck. Belongs to the Hotdog Lovers, but I'm not sure it's always at this spot (close to the Padrão dos Descobrimentos). They serve several kinds of fully loaded Hot Dogs. So loaded that it's impossible to eat them without making a complete mess. But that's quite a part of the fun too. We had one Hot Dog with Chili and (lots of) cheese. The other one with Guacamole. A couple of beers to go with. And one Hot Dog each was more than enough. Good taste, fresh. I would prefer my cheese a bit warm or melted though. But still very good Hot Dogs. And then this location with fantastic views of the river. Very relaxing. Good food, good price, great location. A perfect little break from all the sight-seeing.
