With all these reviews, we'd been meaning to come here for some time, but note the odd hours and try to come around mid-day. There's free wifi and it seems rather American than Puerto Rican in that it looks like a coffee shop or smoothie place in New York's LES. This place is a little hipster, take that how you will. And there's odd, but cute artwork on the walls. I had the Purple Dang with acai, strawberry, banana, and apple juice. Sure it was pricey at $4-5 per smoothie, but it was delicious, and there is surprisingly a dearth in smoothie places around Rincon. I suppose it is a sign of how far the world has come that even in Rincon, Puerto Rico--a town that is hardly on the cutting edge--there is a nice coffee shop serving strong coffee, espresso drinks, and a number of good-looking smoothies, with free wi-fi, computer terminals, etc. They're only open until 3 (and closed Tuesdays), and the bagel with cream cheese we got for breakfast will not make a New-Yorker homesick, but the coffee was strong, the atmosphere and attitude were just right. After my first visit, I spent 24 hours craving a "Nutty Dang"-- one of their specialty smoothies made with chocolate, peanut butter, and bananas, and I had to go back. That smoothie was enough to make this place merit five stars rather than four. I'm told that you can also get them to add a shot of espresso to your smoothie-- that will have to be next. The bottom line: If you're in Rincon, and you drink coffee or smoothies, you should come here. read more

I'm giving it 5 stars for while the coffee elite may not think this is the best coffee shop on earth, it's likely the best coffee shop in the sleepy hamlet. My visit was less recent in 12/2008 but I can agree with other posters that the smoothies are excellent and I recommend their panini. Locals seem to flow in it out as well as visiting surfers. The purple bowl was amazing! I had the veggie panini which was on really delicious focaccia bread rather than just regular boring bread, which made me super happy. The folks in my group that went with one of their coffees reported that it was middle of the road. But i don't drink coffee, so i ordered their smoothie made to taste like you were drinking liquid peanut butter. It was excellent - if you are as much of a fiend for peanut butter as i am, this is something you could become addicted to. The purple dang was pretty darn good + they use Martinelli's apple juice! Tart and sweet, but not overly so, my smoothie was refreshing after a long day at the beach. The proportions of the ingredients worked really well together to make a cohesive smoothie, perfect for a hot day. The walls also display barista certification, so I would assume that the coffee is solid. Keep in mind that Banana Dang is definitely more American/tourist oriented and prices reflect that for $4-5 per smoothie = same as a sandwich a couple doors down. If you're up in the area, give them a try! They're only open until 4PM (we missed them a couple of times until we got them finally) so stop by for an early afternoon refresher. read more

There are so many reasons to love this place. First their smoothies are to DIE FOR! I read up on this place before even arriving in Rincon (yup, I'm one of those people who plan their vacations around where they are gonna eat). I was just gonna try it once for our 4-day trip, but loved it so much I decided I couldn't leave Rincon until I went there two more times. You'll be hooked from the first sip too, I'm sure. The staff is super friendly and all the cups and utensils are compostible and the coffee is 100% Puerto Rican. Although this may be because of the high-taxes on imported goods, I like to think they are being "green." They have clean bathrooms, nice seating and racks of a variety of magazines (news, surfing, fashion, health -- no gossip or trash). Oh and not only do they have free wi-fi, they also have computers in case you don't have access to one in town. The service was also surprisingly fast. I guess after being in Rincon for a few days you adjust to "island time", and you don't go to restaurants hungry because you might not get your food/drinks for at least half an hour. Banana Dang wasn't like that -- I had my sandwich and coffee within minutes. The smoothie that I fell in love with had peanut butter in it (I think it was called the Nutty Dang). Its on the heavier side, not something to wash down a meal with . . . but was the perfect thing to keep us sustained for the long drive from Rincon to Fajardo. I only wish I could have stayed in Rincon longer so I could have slowly sampled everything from the entire menu. read more

My wife and I stopped by here with our friends before heading to the beach. We were all impressed with the quality and flavor of all our drinks. Banana Dang offers great coffee and espresso selections in addition to several smoothie options. Since we knew we probably would not be coming back, my wife and I shared a Vanilla Dang smoothie in addition to our individual coffee selections. The Vanilla smoothie tasted amazing. It reminded me of the taste of homemade banana pudding, was not too intense, and the cinnamon they add on top was just right. If we had more time in the area, I'd love to try others. I got a Vietnamese coffee as well served cold which was great as well. I've had Vietnamese coffee quite a bit, and this was right on. My friends also commented that their coffee was delicious. My rating applies only to the smoothies. I did not get a chance to try the coffee drinks or the food, though based on what I've read here, I probably would have liked it. Fantastic smoothies, very fresh ingredients, great portion size, and an ethical commitment to local, organic and fair trade sourcing - win! I had the Nutty Dang and the Green Tea Dang. The Nutty Dang (chocolate, peanut butter and banana) was so chocolately and peanutty and practically a frappe (yes, they are thick)- and that's fine by me! It was scrumptious. I'm addicted. The Green Tea Dang was also yummy. I wish I had watched how they made it to see if they actually brewed green tea or used a mix of some kind - I was hypnotized by the fantastic banana-yellow coffee mugs (which I eventually bought). From the time they took, and the delicate, earthy flavor, I'd believe that they brewed the tea, but again, I didn't watch. If you get your smoothie "for here," it's served in a very elegant, generously tall glass. But be warned: all smoothies are made with soy milk. I didn't realize this until my husband pointed out the tiny writing at the top of the board on our second trip. I was okay with this even though I usually wouldn't choose soy milk (and hey, I didn't taste it the first time!). But for anyone allergic to soy, it may not be immediately apparent, especially since, aside from the tiny disclaimer, only one smoothie lists soy as an ingredient, which would likely lead one to believe that soy is not the standard. It also isn't mentioned on the website under Our Drinks. I didn't ask if they had any non-soy alternatives. I also wish I'd asked if they really grow the bananas in their back yard. Working as a barista...I am often on the lookout for a great little coffee shop to try their selection of coffee and other things. This place is one of those awesome little places. It's very...hip, and cool. Also very clean! Which I like a lot. Parking is a little eh...but it's worth it. I ordered the Purple Dang...so so so good! My boyfriend got the Vanilla Dang and it was so thick he could barely finish it. Their iced latte, hazelnut flavor, was delicious but very sweet. They also offer a small selection of paninis, but I didn't try any. The free wifi is also great, especially if you are visiting this area and don't have access to internet. There are cute little stickers for sale for .25 cents...I was tempted to get one! If you're in town...definitely stop by for a delicious smoothie!!! read more

It was awesome to stumble upon this establishment while in Rincon. Unfortunately, I did not try any coffee but the smoothies are tasty - Dang Berry was my pick. In an area known for its fried food and rum drinks, this is a nice little piece of healthy attitude. I get a four shot latte everywhere I go (for the coffee flavor - not for the caffeine buzz), and the espresso they use is delicious. My wife and daughters got smoothies and raved about them. They even have several options for a protein "boost" they'll add to a smoothie. The people are friendly and the place has a great coffee house feel with personal art on the walls, fliers from local businesses, and trendy (mostly English) music. Weird. Coffee as good as it gets in the far corner of Puerto Rico. Really good smoothies, too. Apparently the owners are Cali transplants...
