I usually like this place but maybe they have a new cook?? The fried rice had a stale taste to it. The egg roll wasn't any bigger than a tootsie roll, and the Black Pepper Chicken was terrible! It's supposed to be a spicy dish according to the menu but it was a plate full of very overcooked chicken with zero flavor and zero moisture/sauce. I really wanted to like Bamboo Garden, since I have not been able to find any Chinese food in central OK that is worth eating, so far. One thing that is bad is the sweet and sour chicken. It is breast meat which simply does not work for such a dish. It gets dry and stringy when cooked at such a high heat. The meat needs to be dark meat which is moist and can handle the heat. Also, the rice was extremely greasy. It was almost dripping in grease. The sweet tea was obviously from a jug and not brewed in house. It had a strange taste. We've been coming here for well over 20 years and have never had a disappointing experience with the food (delicious), the service (exceptional), the atmosphere (nicely decorated and always immaculate), or the value (more than enough per menu item to feed two people). Because it's cooked fresh when you order, special instructions have never been a problem. They're equally reliable for a fast take-out lunch for two, or an in-house, sit down dinner for 25. We've especially enjoyed watching the family grow; this is the classic, authentic Chinese restaurant with a table reserved for the children to do their homework, and as they grow, to help out with the family business. The first time I had eaten here, the food was obviously old. This was lunchtime mind you. The rice that was on the plates were literally in the shape of the bowl they dumped it out of. Always great! I have enjoyed the Scezuan Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, Human Two flavors, as well as several others. Dumplings, eggrolls, spring rolls, are all fantastic as well, but the Crab Rangoon was too sweet for me. I don't like sweet flavors in my food, so I stay away from that. We had the chicken, broccoli and garlic sauce meal. The most decent looking thing out of that meal was the so called steamed broccoli and the garlic sauce. The chicken is not real chicken. I don't know what it was but we didn't eat it. We basically picked at the broccoli. The rice was very grainy and not fresh what so ever. We hardly did not eat anything. The lady asked if everything was okay and we said it was not enjoyable at all. The food was not fresh. I also commented to her that this does not look like chicken. I informed her my husband is a chef in his spare time and knows good quality food when he sees it. She replied she is sorry we didn't enjoy the food but everyone in the area orders that meal and enjoys it. I did not bother replying with the empty restaurant with only us sitting in it, we should've known better. I have had allot of Chinese food in my day and this was the worst Chinese food I've ever tasted. I miss NY!!! Because it's in a small town (Tecumseh) people in the area (neighborhood) don't know what good Chinese food is. I'm surprised they're still in business. This is why the health of Oklahomans are so poor because of restaurant owners like this that don't care about people's health and being honest with what they're selling. This was fantastic. It's in a small town with not a lot going on... but this food is first rate. The owners are originally from China, then moved to Brooklyn... and then settled in Tecumseh, OK. The chicken curry was PERFECTLY cooked... I mean perfectly cooked. Huge portions for people that are a big fan of that. You can get it spicy or not (but they get what spicy is supposed to be...)
