Just moved here from San Diego where Asian food is alllll over...got fried rice, kung pao , general tsos...and it is not good. I'd rather drink sugar water with 5 day old bread than eat this again. I had fried breading, as did my wife. True kung pao is not breaded. Add to that the cost is outrageous for what you get. I spent 54 bucks through doordash (included fees and tip) and I could have gotten 3 streetwalkers for that, and they would have tasted better. Look at how much celery is in that picture. Move on to the general tsos and it is just fried breading and a soup of sauce. Fried rice with no egg?! Absolutely not authentic and full of sugar with no meat. We ordered a pick up order. We ordered one General Tso Chicken, one Chicken Lo Mein, one order of lo mein noodles and an order of crab rangoons. The chicken in the General Tso was so tough you couldn't even put a fork thru the chicken. The Chicken Lo Mein and very little, if any chicken (very, very small) pieces. The Lo Mein noodles were all stuck together. The Crab Rangoons were tough and chewy. I used to order from there at least once a week when I worked in the area and it was always sooo good. Bamboo Garden is located in a college town and is exactly what you would expect. Dishes are Americanized to appeal to more customers and flavors are there. However, texture and quality of ingredients is lacking. While the vegetables are mostly fresh, the main entrees such as protein are frozen and deep fried. I ordered general tso's chicken on two different days to compare consistency. The dish is labeled as spicy however it was not the first time. I then asked to make it spicy and it was still the same as the first time. I also had the hot and sour soup which was lacking in flavor. 4/10 on the soup. Even though my rating was average I would still return and just take it home and add more spices to add flavor! read more

I am always mixed in opinion when asked or thinking about Bamboo Garden. For me, it is hit or miss on visits and takeout. Sometimes the food tastes great, hot, fresh, and filling. But other times, it seems like it was cold, or just flavorless. It really all depends in what you choose I think. First off, I rarely eat in the actual store, as it is very small, and not the most modern or appealing. The takeout is certainly the go to option, as I they are always busy with phone orders and pickups. After a long day of work or just not feeling like going to a restaurant or cooking, Bamboo Garden is usually a contender for pickup. They are fast, affordable, and nice. I suggest choosing from the chef's specials section, as those dishes tend to be more succulent and tasteful. Not that the regular menu is bad, but it is the more generic Americanised options you would imagine. The Hawaii 5-0 is much more fascinating and tasty than a regular fried rice chicken bowl. As for the fried rice, I'm not a fan. It is yellow, dry and the vegetables taste frozen at times. I much prefer the fresher steamed rice. The sweet & sour is okay, not the most juicy chicken. The sauce is good and thick. Chicken with broccoli is good, and you can tell the more chicken there is of what seems to be better quality mixed with the sauce. Most orders if not all come with the option of steamed or fried rice. If you're lucky, you get fortune cookies, as sometimes the chef forgets haha. No hard feelings. I recommend calling ahead of time, having the menu alphanumeric code for your dish handy. In example, "Hello, may I place a takeout order for the A5..." etcétera. Then give it some 10-15 minutes and drive to pick it up, or order as you're leaving the office or grocery shopping. read more

Food was pretty good although I will admit there was something about their egg rolls that tasted off. They do free delivery on orders of $10 or more. Very friendly staff while we were there. Finally, don't be fooled by the pictures they have up - my wife and I saw those months ago and thought the place was crazy expensive but they have a paper menu inside that is cheaper and more complete. Upon arriving to the restaurant we were questioned about out order. "Do you want almond chicken?" We were asked repeatedly. I assured the woman behind the counter that yes, I did want almond chicken. When we got home to eat, we had been given soup. Soup. This is not almond chicken. To top it off, the sweet and sour chicken I ordered had a lovely BUG in it. There is a BUG in my food. I was skeptical after my first take out order. I simply wanted chicken fried rice without the vegetables, something that has never been a problem at other restaurants, but they can't seem to get it right. After abandoning hope of getting that order correct, I tried to order a typical meal, almond chicken, but it turns out one variety of this is some sort of soup. Never had that problem with other places but once again, there seems to be a disconnect. Lastly, the website is a joke. Special comments come up for only some of the items and navigation is atrocious. I wouldn't recommend dining here, end of story. We had a large group order that we placed through their "online order" system on their website. We came to pick up our order in the store and the man that was working told us that they never received our order. Shortly after, I proved to him via the text messages that I received from their automated service that my order was confirmed and ready at the store. Then, he decided to say "uhhh, sorry," rather than having customer service skills and expediting my order if he would've asked what we ordered. Let's start with the good, the chicken was actually really good, albeit the sauce was a bit too sweet. Now, onto the bad. Dumplings were INEDIBLE. They were dry, chewy, and straight up disgusting. Exploring Bowling Green area eateries alphabetically, a friend and I went to Bamboo Garden for our "B" restaurant. The place has the same look and feel of any of the ubiquitous 'fast, casual' Chinese restaurants: small dining area with a couple of tables, back-lit menu above the counter showing large pictures of the different dishes, walk-up drink cooler, and friendly but sometimes hard to understand staff. While most of their business appeared to be take-out or delivery, we placed our order to eat there at the restaurant. I got the hot and spicy shrimp lunch special, with fried rice, a pork egg roll, and a (small) bottle of Pepsi, which totaled $7.85. Décor at the restaurant was pretty basic: a large, gold Asian fan on one wall, and a turned-off television on another. Our orders arrived at the table in a reasonable period of time given the lunch rush, and we dug in. The food was standard fare taste-wise, good but nothing to write home about. However the portion sizes were very good for the price, and it was a pleasantly filling lunch. Overall I would rate Bamboo Garden as being Good, and would return. read more

01/09/2013 Last night I was in Bowling Green, Ohio. I had the taste for Chinese food. I have stopped at this place a few times. They have had pretty good food in the past. Bamboo Garden, Located on South Main Street Bowling Green in the Big Lots Plaza. Run by a Chinese family with their first language obviously NOT English! Which is usually a good indicator that the food is authentic. Nothing like going to a Chinese place and meeting the owner John Smith from Cocomo ! No, this place is run by a family that knows the art of Chinese food. Bamboo Garden is a small strip mall restaurant with little seating and less atmosphere. In fact, I would recommend always ordering it to go or for delivery. Most times while dining you will have to contend with the workers yelling in Chinese or the kids running around the dining room or the TV so loud with a Chinese television station on that you want to scream! I just want to eat in piece!! You get a Welcome to Bamboo Garden when reaching the counter but that's about it for conversation. You are told the price and given your food and thanked for coming. Nothing more. Just slightly more pleasant that the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld! In checking their online presence, they do have a pretty nice website. www.bamboogardenoh.com You can even order online! I have not tried this feature but if I can order without talking to them or even seeing the restaurant, that might be the way to go! I did not find a facebook page for them. Now to the food. I ordered Beef with Broccoli, large size. First impressions is WOW! This portion is PLENTY big enough for two people! I also ordered a large Chicken Fried Rice and it too was HUGE! These two items with 2 egg rolls cost less than 20 dollars! Pretty good meal and with the two entrées , enough for a family of four! That's a killer good deal in this economy! The dinner was very good overall. The broccoli was cooked to perfection. Just done enough to not be raw but not over done. Nice green color with still a little crunch. The beef was a little chewy. The sauce was fantastic. I just wish the beef would have been a little better. The taste over all was good over all but nothing to brag about. The chicken fried rice. Very Bland. No flavor. The chicken tasted like maybe it's a frozen product. It didn't lend any flavor to the dish in itself. Usually you see a little egg in your fried rice but I didn't see anything. The rice was very yellow in color which made me think they are using packaged chicken base for an attempt at flavor and like chicken base does, it colors the food you are using it in. Very disappointed in the end product for this dish. Egg rolls. Eh you know egg rolls, frozen, dropped in deep fryer. What can I say. So over all I give the Bamboo Gardens food a "C". The price makes it a great value and a salt shaker will make it eatable! I have been in BG for the past four years and this is my favorite place to eat. I usually get the Garlic Tofu(vegan) and it is amazing. I can spend $9 and have dinner for that night plus enough food for lunch the next day! My family loves to eat here when they come and visit. We are all vegan, and have never ordered anything outside of vegan food, so I obviously have not tried much on their menu. However the menu does have many items available to choose from. I've ordered online from Bamboo Garden for delivery orders before and never had a problem. Today I placed an order, paid with a credit card, and received a receipt saying that my order had been received. After an hour, I called to check to see if my order would arrive soon. The man who answered the phone told me that the online system was broken, but that he could take my order and send it to me in half an hour. After our conversation, I thought that my credit card had been charged and that they would just send the meal. But turns out this was not the case, and I didn't not have enough cash to pay the delivery driver. So afterward the man who took my order called and asked what was the problem? He was very angry and it was hard for me to figure out what the situation was (that they had not received my payment). He took my credit card over the phone ("no Discover!"). I received my food shortly after. Even though I had inconvenienced him, the delivery person was nice about it and said it was pretty busy that day because the system was down.
