GETTING HERE: This business is in downtown Santa Paula on Main Street. It is across the street from where The Draft at Mupu Grill is located (and the old Garman's). REVIEW: This is a rough update to write and I have been sitting on it for a little bit. First and foremost, even with c 19 and the whole "not using cash as much" thing, Bamboo Creek Spa prefers cash. I get it. But, sadly I didn't have cash on me at this time. Their sign that states the $2 fee for credit card use had fallen down near the check-out. I didn't know/nor did I expect the $2 fee. Honestly, I would have come back another day with cash had I known what I was going to experience after the massage. Massage was OK. Good, I guess. Huge language barrier unfortunately, so when I asked the woman for lighter pressure, she didn't appear to understand what I asked for and continued w/out a change. I asked her again a 2nd time for lighter pressure (I used a hand gesture hoping that would work) and it did. But, then she eased up too much and she was only lightly rubbing my feet with her fingertips. Meh. Had there not been such an issue with a language barrier I probably could have rated 4 stars. At checkout is where things went south. I was prepared, and expected to pay with my card and was going to tip her in cash. When the lady was about to ring me up she then included the $2 service charge, to my shock. (Now, I get the whole thing. This is not a place to argue discuss the sad state of our present world. My issue and great concern is that I was not told or informed a head of time about it.) This lady called for another employee and they began talking in their native language. The 2nd lady then took over my transaction and I felt bullied and attacked for my financial choice of how I wanted to proceed with payment once I was aware of the $2 service fee. Monday am empty at 11:00 am, I had a massage. Asked for light massage but she was too rough had to remind her a few times. The price agreed at was $50 for 1hr. Afterwards a paid $52.00 I had no change. But gave a large tip previous time. The lady said "NO, tip is $10.00." In a upset manner!!! She yelled at someone in the back to come up front and lady asked me to pay the $10. Isn't a tip a voluntary option?? Especially when you don't get what you asked for??? I was traveling on business and my back was really bothering me, did a walk in and was very pleased. Times were very clean and did but smell like someone just cooked something. I asked to switch from hard to medium. She was able to feel where I was tight and she concentrated on those areas. A couple times I caught myself falling asleep. Today during my lunch hours, I decided to go down the street and try this new massage place. I walked in requesting the 30 min full body massage with concentration to my upper neck and back and showed them the extra 10-min-added-to-any-service AD for first timer. I ended up receiving a 40-45 minute massage for about 26$ including tip. At first I saw the young lady who greeted me and was worried that her skill and strength would not be up to par with the massive tension I have in my neck and shoulders. I requested a strength of 6 out of 7 and boy was I wrong! She was good! One of the best I had. She knew exactly where I was tight and where all my knots were and she worked extremely hard to break them down. I was happy with the service. Clean, minimal talking, pretty private rooms. They don't make you undress and they don't lather you everywhere with oil so you can return back to work looking half decent! I will be returning next month to splurge on another massage. So I kind of just went on a limb, I got a foot massage. I've never gotten any type of massage before but it wasn't as relaxing as I thought it'd be. But unfortunately just a couple days after I got a massage I got this pimple like thing on the side of my toe & it's so gross, it looks infected, so I have to go to the doctors this week. I have a feeling he might've not washed his hands after touching money & came back to massage my feet, so I definitely won't be coming here again. Plus they tried to force me to pay $10 in tip after I gave him $6 since it was all I had in cash, didn't have my wallet. They literally told me next time to take $10? I work out. I work a physically demanding job. I play video games for extended amounts of time. So I thought I was going into this with a few knots ... mother fucker was I wrong ! I go in. They shuffle me to a room that smells good with a table that a hole for your face. They tell me to undress. I take everything off by my undies. Lay on the table, face down. Quiet secluded places always make me nervous. I quivered as he/she entered... The room. And then it begins. The massuse was strong yet gentle and rubbed me out so good. Hands of a strong burly man yet gentle like a lactating woman I don't want to assume genders. I left the establishment so satisfied. The strokes were hard and magnificent. I was so relieved when I left. The massuse had me yearning for more. I had to hand it to them. One of the best massages I've ever had. I left wanting more. I was a string of uncooked spaghetti and he dropped me in a pot of boiling water making me flexible once again. I do have some criticisms tho. The massuse only did me from behind. No work on my front side which left me halfway done. I only had the 40 minute package so that's probably why she stopped mid way. The door to the establishment was open so I could hear people outside which felt a bit intrusive to my session. The parking sucks because the establishment is on a busy street. The receptionist didn't speak enlgish that well and my fiance had trouble communicating her needs. The massage was 35 dollars for a 40 minute massge. This includes oil and hot stone treatment which was divine. 8/10 would come back. TL;DR great massage for a good price. Bad parking. Open doors so you hear shit. Do not recommend this place! I went to go get a massage and the guy on the reception was the one available when I had asked for a women and I believe I spoke with him over the phone. I went with my mom and they separated us into different rooms when they were 2 beds in one room. Anyways, it happens so fast and it seems like they did not understand a word I was saying. He wet me with oil and made me feel so uncomfortable! At the end he asked for a 14 dollar Tip for me and my mom. I denied and he kept insisting. I asked if it was mandatory?! I was there on Tuesday night 5 pm....I booked an hour and asked for only female staff!!!! It was the worst massage I have ever had.... The young man working the desk should never be allowed to give massage... Or touch a clients!!!! Especially when the client asked for a female..... He covered me in so much oil. It was disgusting.!!!!!! I was very uncomfortable!!! He did not know what he was doing. And he kept using his elbows and grinding them into my back...!!!!! And I was already in pain... I have gone to the Bamboo Chinese Spa several times having the foot massages, the chair massage and a shoulder/neck massages. This is a very professional massage place. They are very nice, do an awesome job as I prefer a more deep massage and I can totally relax as it is very quiet with very little conversation taking place. The therapist makes sure they are not rubbing too hard or too soft. I have also taken my Dad who has never had a table massage (here you lie down on the massage table with all your clothes on and they cover you with a sheet or towel and massage your back--no need to take anything off!). My Dad who had never had a table massage said it was great and really helped get the knots out of his hurting back. This time it was from a guy, I felt a bit uncomfortable as it seemed that he kept trying to touch my chest. Once it was over he demanded a tip as well. However we had a couples massage and after my wife told me that the male massage therapist made her feel uncomfortable. I was really upset to hear this and unfortunately will not be returning to this place again. I didn't get the name of this person but he was thin with tattoos on his arms.
