This is one of the nicest Bull Moose stores we have been in…read more Parking - a BREEZE - so many options, not crowded/competing with a to of other businesses. The store was neatly organized and well stocked, like most Bull Moose stores. The staff was super attentive and friendly. You can tell they are well liked by customers/community - they seemed to know everyone that was in there. We just had a quick visit to pick up an online order. It was fast and so easy. The person that helped us was really nice and we could hear that she had a cold of some kind - so I was relieved to see that she was wearing a mask in consideration of others. There were a lot of elderly customers while we were there and I can't imagine an illness would be helpful. The prices, especially for newer releases are very competitive even against giants like amazon. And it's supports Bull Moose - locally owned with much better customer service than big box. They also have never cancelled a pre-order on us, unlike other big retailers. Bonus - their loyalty program is AWESOME!!!!!

However, upon arriving, I was informed that the store does not accept online returns. I'd appreciate it if you could ensure your staff provides accurate information to save customers the unnecessary trip. Thank you.

The oldest book store in Maine filled with tons of books, great sales on selected books, greeting…read morecards, gifts, candies and more! I loved checking out the Maine Mysteries section and also the staff picks. The store is well laid out and organized although it would be easy to get lost in here for hours. I bought a few books on sale, some candies and a magnet. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Plenty of parking in lot. I will be back again and would highly recommend a stop in.

LOL The had everything we were looking for, which was nothing specific but needed something for many kids/adults. Cook books, Maine souvenir items for our NY in-laws, activity books for kids, cool fun "old fashioned" hand held water toy games. I was more fascinated than my nephew. There was a stationary section in the front corner of the store that reminded me of good ol' Loring Short and Harmon...Anyone remember that awesome store? This was like that combined with Bookland and Newbury comics. I have always heard great things about Sherman's and I was not disappointed. I bought so many different things, for me and the kids. I can't wait to come back for another shopping spree. We were able to get so many fun things and all for great prices. (yes, we compared to Amazon) in fact they had some items that were not available on Amazon! Shop Local! You will be pleasantly surprised. Staff here make it a very pleasant experience while checking out.

Unfortunately, this shop was sold to a new owner a few years ago and now there is no selection;…read moreevery time I have asked about a book I have been told I could order it online. There is such a small selection, no unique gifts, no warm and cozy environment. This used to be a favorite, but I can no longer recommend.

Visited the Tribune (I still call it Books n' Things) today with my sister and had such an…read moreenjoyable experience. Not only is this book store well lit, well organized, and overflowing with beautiful items, but the customer service is out of this world. We entered the store in hopes of finding a gift for our good friends daughter who is turning one in the following days and were overwhelmed with beautiful books to pick from. In addition to the lovely books were adorable toys, puzzles, and clothing options for any little one in your life. (I may have bought my daughter a few things while in the store too.) I saw an adorable little wooden train toy in the play area of the store and brought it up to the front desk in hopes she could help me find another one just like it-- there were no other trains sets in the store but she allowed me to buy the one from the store! I love supporting local businesses and this is one to get behind. Perfect for a gift for any book lover or any person who loves durable, quality, Maine based items. I am excited to make the Tribune my regular book store after moving back to Maine after living in Nevada for the last 5 years. Cant forget to mention there is also an upstairs to the store that I was told has beautiful clothing items. (Unfortunately I ran out of time today and did not get to browse around upstairs.) Be sure to visit the Tribune for any of your book/gift needs-- support local business!

Gulf of Maine is one of my favorite indie bookstores anywhere!…read more There aren't many places in Brunswick that date back to my youth that I can say that I've been a fan of and someone who shops there. Gulf of Maine. Not even Bull Moose has been around since 1979, like Gulf of Maine. Back when my politics and literary tastes were still forming, I ventured into the store that Beth Leonard and Gary Lawless were running (on the other side of Maine Street, if I recall). They've managed to maintain a presence in downtown, long after many other similar stores have disappeared. For me, there is no other bookshop that carries such a wide array of what I'd characterize as politically progressive books and authors--Noam Chomsky, Ward Churchill, Howard Zinn, Barbara Ehrenreich and a host of others. But to label G of M as merely a political bookseller misses the point entirely. Both Gary and Beth carry a wealth of Maine writers, too. I mean, even a veritable unknown writer like me has had success selling his titles through their store. Plus, I now know who Ruth Moore his simply because Gary and Beth are a fan and I asked about the bumper sticker I saw on their car that read, "Read Ruth Moore." I believe that bookstores make communities richer, especially stores that don't just cater to the lowest common denominator, or stock merely bestselling hacks and their trade paperbacks, not that there's anything wrong with them. The next time you are in downtown Brunswick, park your car on Maine Street, walk up and down the vibrant main thoroughfare, bordered by an ample village green, independently-owned coffee shops and other unique shops, and make sure you stop in and see what a real bookstore looks like. That would be Gulf of Maine Books.
