The owner, Dave, and his staff are top notch, the food is very good. Seriously, the best chips (fries for us Yanks) I've ever had. Similarly, their steak and ale pie will cause you to question your previous favorite. The Buccleuch is an eighteenth century coach house that has been brought up to a modern standard, and while you don't have to be a motorcyclist to enjoy this place, if you are a motorcyclist, this place will delight you. Secure parking, access to whatever you need, and Dave's knowledge of local roads is encyclopedic. He came up with a route for us that would get us north without slogging through Glasgow traffic, then loaded it in my friend's satnav. Great local roads too!

The Moffat House Hotel certainly looks very grand from outside, but on the inside it is pretty…read moredated. Although we stayed pretty cheap (around £50 a night including a dog on a Saturday) I would have paid a little more to have wallpaper that wasn't falling off the roof and being able to hear everything going on in the bathroom next to my bed... (not my bathroom!). Free wi-fi was really useful too. However the staff were really nice and doggy friendly too and it is well located within a 3-4 minute walk of pretty much every pub in Moffat. A lovely town to visit. A solid 3.5 stars! A bit of TLC and this would be a 4. Try and not leave an inch gap between the bottom of the room door and the floor please!

We stayed here for one night as it was dog friendly. The room was an ok size. It was just a bit run…read moredown. Think it needs some TLC. The bathroom was also ok. The building outside is really impressive but the inside does not match that. This is also a Best Western which is not obvious from the name. The staff are really friendly. I asked for 2 plates and some cutlery as we had brought back a takeaway. Some place can be weird about this but they were very obliging. Would recommend for a night or 2.

I was just married yesterday and the whole event was seamless. All of my guests had a great time and enjoyed every aspect of the wedding- from the owl ring delivery to the fireworks in the evening. Many claimed it was the best wedding they have ever attended. I enjoyed myself and the day was virtually stress free. Lilly, Deborah and Sarah were so willing to bend over backwards to make sure my day was perfect. All of the servers and bartenders were also on point. Our bartender was providing scotch education to guests and many of my guests really enjoyed this. Even after the dancing ended, the evening manager went out of his way to make sure guests were fed and happy. He even made us cheese bread when the sandwiches were consumed. I would highly highly recommend Auchen Castle. You won't be dissapointed!
