"THE BEST FULL IRISH IN THE COUNTRY!!!!"…read more 5 Stars. Five. If I could give more I would. If you love breakfast, you need to take a trip to Midleton, Co Cork. At The Pantry, you'll be served what can only be described as The most serious contender for BEST FULL IRISH IN THE COUNTRY!!!! This is not something I take lightly. I have enjoyed far too many a Full Irish's up and down our fair island...and I'm not joking - SO MANY breakfasts. But never have been inspired to put my feelings about any meal in writing...nevermind post them online. Until now. I first wandered into The Pantry just over a year ago looking for a breakfast...we were met a smile and welcome from Gordon who runs the show. He was quick to find us a comfortable table with plenty space for our buggy (a high chair was available but we didn't need it) and to bring us some tea and coffee (both great by the way). We each ordered the Full Irish. Breakfasts are cooked to order and service is efficient and attentive. Food arrived in good time. Respectively, each item on each plate was cooked perfectly. Food was out of a frying pan and not a deep fryer. Each meal came with tea/coffee and toast...as it should do. We got to speak with Gordon after our meal. He told us about his experience running the The Pantry, about how they bake their own bread daily, about all the different local suppliers..for the sausages, for the bacon, for the pudding, etc. The Pantry is a bright and welcoming cafe/bistro serving a tempting variety of foods throughout the day. Go for a coffee and a cake of go for The BEST FULL IRISH you're ever likely to be served...go for the welcome alone...just go. FIVE STARS. 5! Following that, and in the interest of a fair and impartial review, I should mention the negatives: Each time I visit, I can't help but be reminded of the fact that I live 161 and a half miles away (260km)...and I can never help but think about how long it might be before I'll be able to get another breakfast here. That's me. That's my review. Cheers Gordo. You're the man.

Ok, I order falafel regularly, because I love the falafel (I do). While most don't match the falafel wrap of The Lebanese House at the Harcourt Street Food Market (only 5 EUR, wow!), but rarely are they a big a let down as there were here at Kilkenny Cafe Shanagarry. Why do places serve up what's currently popular/trendy if they can't do it right. I almost forgot that it came with some mediocre chips and soup that was far far too sweet. Ok rant over. They sell nice stuff here too, if you can afford it. Since we'd spent enough on lunch, we skipped buying anything. Staff and facilities were grand though, just the food a disappointment.

Not to worry and we headed for the Kilkenny Cafe in the village, in the former Stephen Pearce emporium. Walked through the shop. The cafe, indoor and outdoor, is at the far end. We were warmly greeted and took a seat outdoors overlooking the local fields and looking out towards Ballycotton. With a dinner arranged (fresh hake from the English market) for the evening, we didn't need anything major. Started with a delicious Potato and Leek soup (€4.50) and a couple of slices of gorgeous freshly made brown bread. Skipped a variety of well priced main courses - tempting salads, burgers, Paninis - and ended with a pot of tea and scones (with all the trimmings, including jam and cream). Total came to just over seventeen euro. Took a stroll through the shop and bought a few food items. Service, at both restaurant and shop, was first class, very friendly and efficient. So, if you are in East Cork, an under-rated area where there is so much to see and do, I'd recommend you mark this cafe as a stop on your tour.

We spotted a few restaurants but came across the Rendezvous Restaurant by the clock tower. We saw the menu in the window and was enticed to go inside. (Note: at the time of third review, the menu in the window did not reflect the current prices on the menu inside) We ordered coffee, fish and chips, burgers, and the cajun chicken salads. Everything came out hot and fresh. I ordered coffee, water, and the cajun chicken salad. The water had a pleasant flavor and came in nice cold water flasks to fill glasses (Note: we had gone to a restaurant the previous day and the water was like licking 100 year old pipes). The coffee cane out hot and had a great taste to it. I'm no coffee connoisseur, so my taste buds may vary from yours. The cajun chicken salad was incredible. Right groin the start the chicken was hot, the salad with dressing was very balanced, and the kick from the spice only slightly overwhelmed you from the start. I truly enjoyed the salad and highly recommend it. A few of us wanted to take advantage of the dessert offerings, specifically the Tiramisu. Unfortunately, they were sold out. Upon leaving, I took a few seconds to thank the owner/manager and complimented him on the salad. Service was excellent, food was phenomenal, and the price was still reasonable. Would have loved to have tried the Tiramisu.
