We were in Lake Charles a few years ago and this place was recommended to us by some local folks. We weren't able to get there then so decided to stop by on our way to Texas. It is a small, no frills mom and pop place. What do you get? Hot, juicy, crispy, spicy fried chicken. It's greasy and delicious! We had sides of red beans and rice and boudin balls. The red beans were not very flavorful but you could doctor it up with the hot sauce on the table. The boudin balls take 7 minutes to cook. If you are getting takeout that might be an issue but we ate in the restaurant and just got them served to us a little after our chicken arrived. Today for dinner I decided to go to Balls Chicken. A family owned business located on Enterprise Blvd on Lake Charles La. Balls has been around for as long as I can remember. I went to High School with one of the sons. That tells you about how ago that's been over 30 years and still going strong. WOW. They also opened a second location on Common Street near Mcnesse State University here in Lake Charles La. The food at Balls is like home cooking. The chicken is always a little spicy and always hot and delicious. They also have great sides lime Fried Okra, Potato Salad, Red Beans and Rice and fries. I've tried every one of them and im never disappointed. The menu is fairly big as you will see. They have homemade pies, Boudin, shrimp and fish dinners, Hamburgers, Fishburgers, Shrimp on a Bun, Pork Chop Burger. You name it they got it. I usually visit Balls at least 2-3 times a month. So if you're passing through Lake. Charles La or visiting the Casinos give balls a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

OMG Ball's is so good. A friend from work kept gushing about this place so I had to stop there. I got the sample plate and was impressed. The sampler plate comes with a piece of catfish, three shrimp, one boudin ball, a piece of fried chicken, a side (I got potato salad.), and a little salad. The batter is thin, crispy and spicy. It came to me piping hot out of the fryer and into a to-go container. I wasn't a fan of the potato salad, but I don't like that style of potato salad. Their potato salad is mushy with a lot of mustard and no eggs. If you're in Lake Charles, make a a stop here. read more

It was one of the best decisions we have made in a long while because dayum. We ordered the two piece combo, white, which came with a breast and a wing, and a side, a roll and a drink. I got red beans and rice, and hubby got fries. I also got boudin balls. Because boudin balls. The people were so friendly, and the food...the food. That fried chicken was so good. It had some spice to it, and the chicken was so juicy, you know it was fried with love! The boudin balls were so good and huge!! Hubby helped me eat them, not that I needed him, as I can do fine on my own, but because I decided to be nice and share! The place isn't fancy, and it's not too big, but I bet they get a lot of people taking chicken to go. I might just do that next time we go through here. When coming to Lake Charles, we visited Balls Chicken on commons. This chicken was so good!! So on our return to Lake Charles, we went to the enterprise location which is the "Original" Balls Chicken. Well it may be the original one, but the freshness isn't their. They had chicken in a heater pan, so I wondered how fresh the chicken was. Well it didn't seem fresh. I like the location and the people, and the prices are way better, however, I would probably want chicken straight from the grease. French fries are good, fried okra is great, and the potato salad is delicious (and pairs well with the spicy chicken). Soooooo sorry I forgot to take a picture. This is a necessary stop when I pass through Lake Charles - no matter where I'm going or coming from. The only exception is if I'm traveling on Sundy because they are closed on Sunday's. I usually get a 4 piece with 3 wings and a thigh and fries. The boudin balls are good as well. I hear that the burgers are good, but I always get chicken because I don't get to stop there much. The same lady is there at the register taking orders no matter when I stop in. The flavor of the chicken is slightly spicy - just enough kick to make you want to over eat lol! One of my favorite chicken places in the US! But this is serious fried chicken, the best I've ever had. On my first visit I got the Sampler(9.99). The sampler had 1 piece of chicken (I opted for a thigh), a fish filet, 3 fried shrimp, and a boudin ball. There was a choice of sides, I opted for the fried okra. All were excellent... It was when I saw her dump frozen okra from a huge bag into the fryer and the packets of tarter sauce and thousand island dressing. I expected a place like this to have home made sauces and friend okra. The fried catfish was a little flavorless but had good crunchy texture. If they had a good homemade dipping sauce for it it would've been much better. The pros: really good fried chicken and shrimp. Pros: Chicken was really, really good. Very crispy, juicy and not greasy. We both got the 2pc special which included a side, a roll, and a drink. Very reasonable price. Restaurant was clean. A nice lady was cleaning off the tables with disinfectant while we were there. Staff was friendly. Food was ready really fast also. Seems like a lot of returning customers came in while we were there, because when people walked in, everybody was on a first name basis. Cons: Sides were mediocre at best. I suppose they spend a lot of time perfecting the chicken that sides are an afterthought. The red beans and rice were very, very bland. I tasted no seasoning whatsoever. Fries were not salted, also bland. Adding salt when they aren't fresh from fryer helped a little but not much since most of salt fell off. Roll was standard dinner roll. I ate half a bite and tossed it. Summary: I will return for the chicken, but will order ONLY chicken next time. It is really, really good and is worth it. read more

My friend from Lake Charles took me here because I went to the South with my stomach leading the way, and my stomach always says yes to fried chicken! For a small town diner type place, I expected bigger chicken and larger quantity for the price, but they ended up being rather small though quite juicy. I have to say I felt a little nauseated by the grease and low quality sides, but the stripped down look of the place and the focus on fried chicken made it authentic.
