When you 1st enter the area is covered in salt stains ( I mean come on it's summer time!!) The bathrooms are dirty, toilet paper holders are ripped from the wall and holes. The entire establishment looks as thought they need to hire cleaner to come and do a deep clean. The tv screens are hard to watch your child on as it doesn't show the entire room. For the cost of dance lessons, this is unacceptable. There are 11 students in my daughters class with one teacher. Which wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't a 3-4 year olds.

It's great and we have watched it be a safe place for kids and a great place for families. Our daughter has been here for 6 years and has won world championships. And more important, her closest friends are here. She loves it. And the families are friendly and there is none of the usual "politics" that you see in kids organizations. They don't tolerate it. And that is fantastic. It's all about the kids. Best investment in money and time we have ever made for our kids. All positive.

Incident Jan 27th: My daughter completes her dance class and is getting dressed to go home... but wait...her running shoes are missing!!! I go into that change room looked in the lost and found... cubbies...corners... other girls bags..NOTHING. At this point I am disgusted!! Now my daughter is leaving barefoot to get to the car?? Are you serious?? My husband calls a dance teacher who is the owners Barry's daughter..as useful as a brick wall! I expressed my frustration and include it is ridiculous that you pay hundreds of dollars and now how to worry about petty theft.... seriously! ! I also included this is why I prefer my child to bring her personals with her to class so they are safe. She wanted to know why am I getting mad at her...does she want me to give my daughter her shoes so she can get home?? Matter of fact..YES!!! The owner Barry could care less..until I posted on their site a review outlining our experience and suggesting whom ever took the shoes bring them back and teach their daughter about stealing. Low and behold my husband gets a call after my post 3 hrs later indicating they found my daughters shoes in the corner?!?! The same corner I looked in myself?!?! What a miracle... and that my daughter can leave their school !!! This place has no integrity. Come to find out through other parents who also have children that go their that theft is a regular thing and they don't do much about it! So I guess it must be very annoying for someone like me to speak up about the principal of things. Barry did refund my husband for costume fees..However I will be pursuing the rest of my fees via small claims court.

I would also like to comment on the other reviews here which I read and which made me a little weary before I joined as I was coming from another dance school. They have never advised me I can ONLY buy items needed (uniforms etc) at their "partner shop". I also think the lady who makes the rounds is quite nice and fair. I haven't had any issues at all with anyone.

I am really glad we found this studio (we saw a couple of dancers competing at the CNE, and found out they were in Scarborough which was perfect for us!). We began our competitive journey last year, and my daughter absolutely loves it! Monika, the director is amazing! I highly recommend this studio, they have expanded the Tap programme now to the really young kiddos now too. Don't be afraid to chat with other parents there, we are all friendly! The studio has a great reputation, anytime we mention which studio we are with, people always say how amazing they are and how respect the dancers are...how we clap for everyone at competitions and congratulate other dancers. Anyways, wanted to leave this review because I noticed a negative one. Socialize with other parents, talk to the teachers etc....The cutest thing happened after my daughter did her first solo ever and in competition in March of this year, her entire team had run to watch her and then they came out and gave her a huge group hug when she finished!! Anyways, both recreational and competitive streams are fantastic!

The competitive team is very respectful to all other dancers . The older kids build strong relationships with the younger kids, which is not something you see at other dance studios; they are great mentors to the little ones! You can really feel the family atmosphere in this place, whether that be through student-to-student interaction, parent-to-parent interaction, teacher-to-student interaction, parent-to-teacher interaction or even student-parent interaction. Well-trained and well-rounded recreational and competitive teachers that are educated in all disciplines. The acro teachers and assistants have clearly gone through vigorous training to keep the children safe at all times. All three acro teachers are very aware of the developmental stages of children's bodies and do not make them attempt any skills that shouldn't be done during said phases. If any child is uncomfortable with a skill, they are never forced to do it. Their competitive acro team is amazing; they use props that you would see in Cirque du Soleil, and Deborah clearly spends a lot of time making sure these kids know how to use and do tricks on the props safely. The ballet teachers are well trained and knowledgeable in RAD ballet. The head of the ballet department keeps her teachers on a disciplined teaching schedule so all the students in each grade are readily prepared for their end-of-year exams. There have been many amazing ballerinas who have come out of this studio, and many of them have gained large opportunities after they graduated to continue their ballet education. The musical theater teachers have a great background in theatrics and Broadway-like choreography. They really help the children become comfortable performing and using their emotions on stage. The theater teachers are amazing with ALL age groups and know that it takes time to build confidence within these children. Using your emotions on stage can be scary, but the teachers have NEVER once brought a child down to make them feel like they aren't doing enough. The tap teachers are keeping old-school tap alive while incorporating new-school elements. The large group taps that come out of this studio are always amazing; these groups of 10+ dancers sound like one person when they hit the stage; no one is ever off in the slightest. The hip-hop teacher's choreography is with the times and is evolving yearly based on dance trends. I like the high-energy pieces that she puts out as well as the different music pieces she uses to showcase different sub-genres of hip-hop. The jazz teachers are well educated in old-school Fosse-like jazz as well as new-school jazz. I enjoy watching the different jazz sub-styles that each teacher choreographs! The jazz team is highly knowledgeable in jumps and turns, and the teachers make sure they are technically sound as well. It is very nice to watch pieces that are focused on dance with jumping and turning elements incorporated as opposed to dances that are made up of 100% jumps and turns--Good job, jazz teachers! The teachers in the front room have no issues leaving their door open so the parents can watch the class from the lobby. All teachers are open to taking questions and meeting with parents if they have any concerns. Teachers also offer private lessons on their own time if kids prefer learning in a smaller atmosphere, want to learn more, or want extra practice with their competitive solos/duets and trios. DTSOD has had many students that do not even dance at their studio come in and get help with auditions for Mayfield, St. Roch, and even university-level musical theatre programs. Every audition they have produced has led the student to getting an offer at their top choice of school.
