I've been coming for many years now and to be honest they did see to change staff every so often. It just depends what you want but, I'll share Dr Tran whom I just saw is awesome ! I take my teeth very serious and she is SOOO meticulous, caring and patient. During my cleaning I can just tell how thorough she wad and easy to talk to. Shes only been there 4 months so ask for her . She is really good. Dr. Makkar also but she seems very busy heads up. read more

I'm not one to leave negative reviews often but I strongly recommend against Ballard Modern Dentistry. Several times now, I've been told a scheduler would reach out to me to reschedule appointments and never heard from the scheduler. The administrative staff does not seem to ever be able to get ahold of the scheduler when I call, they always say they are going to send a note, but I still don't hear back. It's December and I've been waiting to reschedule an appointment for a cleaning for months and now I'm told there aren't any left through the end of the year. The first time this happened, it was around getting a crown installed to a previously placed dental implant. My appointment was rescheduled at the last minute by the dental office, the scheduler never called as promised, and then after I took the initiative to reach out, they got me in with Dr. Cho. My previous dentist told me the crown install would be easy, but this was not the case. Dr. Cho repeatedly told me he wasn't familiar with the brand (wouldn't you want to familiarize yourself before the patient is in the office?) and screwing the crown in was extremely painful. Dr. Cho seemed rushed and annoyed at the process, and it was one of the more stressful experiences I've had at a dentist. I also got an occlusal guard from this office, which has resulted in tension headaches and worse jaw issues than before. I did not have this issue with my previous occlusal guard. If only I could get in to discuss this with a dentist... but I can't thanks to the staff's inability to schedule me. This is a high volume dentist office. They see a lot of patients and it shows in the lack of care and compassion for the individual patients and also the unprofessionalism and disorganization of the scheduling process. read more

As others have mentioned, this office pushes additional procedures very aggressively, I think the dentists must get incentives or commissions for upsells. Their office and equipment are state of the art and high tech, no doubt. But I constantly felt pushed and coerced despite making my preferences and financial limitations known. I'd been a patient of this dental office for over 5 years. They are certainly quick and efficient, they can make same-day crowns, which is neat. It's easy enough to schedule appointments online or over the phone. My dentist changed every few years, and I rarely had the same hygienist.most dentists were nice enough, a few scolding and scary. Most of the hygienists were nice, but some would make hasty declarations of what my condition and what procedures I should have, contrary to my care plan with my dentist. Once I had a hygienist who cheerfully informed me that I was his last patient until his weekend and that he couldn't wait to get off work; not very comforting, and I endured a half effort cleaning and an unnoticed waterfall down my shoulder for the length of my cleaning. Procedures went fine, visits were usually painless and efficient, but it felt like every time I came in, I'd have to defend myself anew against upsells, despite repeatedly declining. This became tiring and severely anxiety inducing. The last straw was when I realized I was dreading my cleanings and check ups more than potential tooth loss I was facing. I literally feared their pushiness, scolding, shame and disregard more than losing some teeth. Every visit was a battle anew; aggressive upsells (they MUST be getting commission); it began to feel like they were purposely trying to scare me with doomsday worst case scenario. It wasn't that bad when I first started going; they generally seemed sensitive to my financial situation and anxiety, but in the last year or so they've gotten really aggressive. Again; it's so bad I decided I'd rather loose TEETH then deal with the coercion. I'm leaving for a new dentist because I'm tired of having the dentists here see my problems as dollar signs end opportunity for profit. Think I'll go to Neighborhood Health or dental clinics where at least they'll respect my wishes and not treat me like a cash cow. read more

Dentists are great, scheduling is a nightmare. It honestly seems like the scheduling team is unsure how to work their system. 2-3x I would confirm an appointment on the phone, verbally be told it was scheduled, and then not have an appointment in the system. Waited 2 months for a surgical consultation that was cancelled day of, then had an email they would call to reschedule and never did. read more

I hate posting negative reviews, but I hope maybe this can help the next patient and spare them from a similar situation. I had a disappointing experience with Dr. Michael Cho. Last year He performed two dental implants procedures on me, (one implant but both times failed and fell out) Both procedures led to intense discomfort and required prescription pain medication. Despite the issues, Dr. Cho was unable to explain why the implants didn't succeed. I sought out a second opinion from another dentist, and the difference in the procedure was shocking. The new implants were placed with precision, resulting in no pain, I didn't even feel it, and no further complications with the placement. I appreciate that office refunded me, but based on my experience, I would not recommend Dr. Cho for dental implants, the whole experience was a bit of a nightmare. Side note when they rinsed my mouth the water tasted horrible of mildew as if the water tank was old and had never been cleaned. read more

Staff do change quite often, but recently I have had Dr. Tracie Tran, who has been wonderful. I appreciate that Dr. Tran is very meticulous, caring, and took the time to answer all my questions. Was upsold to get an onlay (Dentist that I had seen a few weeks before recommended a filling but didn't accept my insurance )I didn't check or compare at the time because i trusted what I'm told from a professional . Spent 10 days with a sore jaw that started to click to the right side, swollen lip, a mouth that would open just enough for me to get a fork of food in and a few cuts that would burn with even salt as flavoring . I was refunded $100 and an apology for my healing taking longer . I have had dental work done since I was a child without a single issue . My family have all been patients here for years since we moved to the area. NEVER AGAIN. Without going into details this office has become a place where my family FEELS UNCOMFORTABLE AND UNSAFE. The staff belittles and talks down to patients. They are unprofessional and seem to lack common sense or compassion. They WILL PUSH UNNECESSARY PROCEDURES and EXPENSIVE treatments and products outside of Insurance coverage. They tried to give X-rays to my pregnant wife and completely ignored her Doctor's medical note which THEY REQUIRED to give her an annual teeth cleaning. I don't know what's going on over there but something is not right. It's a revolving door of staff, and other recent reviews seem to support my thoughts. We will not be returning. read more

I have been going here for a year and it was going ok until the end. There are a few concerns that I have which warrants a 1 Star review: 1. I had a dental cleaning with fluoride ($70 just for the fluoride) in February and I JUST now got my reimbursement in July and it took emailing them and calling 5+ times to make sure the reimbursement was processed properly. Should have been an easy ask as they assured me they would handle things on their end when I said I didn't have my insurance card on me but I knew I was insured. It was only until I followed up again that they put money back on my card. Also the money they sent back seemed kind of low... this whole thing was exhausting and a horrible customer experience. 2. They had two dentists insist that I needed a crown and wanted to charge me $1400 for it due to a "crack on my molar". I decided to check out another office and they did a free consult with x-ray and told me that wasn't necessary and my tooth was fine. Ballard Modern wanted to basically permanently mess with my tooth for no reason and charge me $$$ for it. Plus crowns need to be replaced every 10-15 years. 3. They are overpriced and my experiences just showed me that they are also unprofessional. The office also feels a little unkept. I would not recommend them. read more

New patient appointment was booked 2 weeks ahead, followed all the e-check in instruction and arrived on time, just to wait 45 min and then appointment is canceled. I have a very tight schedule and had to cancel plans to clear that day, drove 30 min, everybody in the lobby had been serviced including another new patient, and their excuse was "technical problems". Maybe it was January 3rd and things were hectic but there was a long way and things seemed a little bit disorganized in the waiting room. I was serviced after someone that came after me because the front desk lady did not check the name list before processing someone else. 3 stars. However my experience with Dr Fey, was extraordinarily above average. She's very empathetic and patient and went above and beyond didn't explaining everything that I had to ask her. Do not go here for personalized care. It is rushed, formulaic and inattentive. Don't trust them. I was billed for services that were not completed, monitored by video without my consent even after explicitly opting out of that and discussing with the office manager. They insisted on misgendering me and deadnaming me, and when I tried to check in with my correct respectful name the receptionist wouldn't accept it. I told them to call the phone number on file and I would be waiting outside for them to call me for my appointment, they never called and after 40 minutes of waiting I told them I was leaving. Total mistake. Now I can't get off their email list and I hate being reminded of bad experiences. I hope they get some training and get their act together with privacy and basic patient respect. Do not use-awful! I'm writing this to warn others-beware! I loved my dentist and went to them for years but then they sold to the current group. It went from a professional, caring organization to a heartless machine that is so mismanaged. You're treated like a number and it seems like the dental hygienists are overworked and stressed out. I had an appointment for a cleaning and need an antibiotic prescription. I called 2 weeks ahead of time, then the day before and left messages-no response. My favorite dentist, Dr. Mak, moved to this location, so I had to drive for over an hour to get my teeth fixed. Dr. Mak was as professional as usual; he's the only dentist who has 100% of my trust. He placed onlays on two of my teeth, and they are two pieces of perfect artwork. He was so gentle during the procedure and minimized my pain. The office is very modern and clean, and the staff are very friendly. Highly recommend it! read more

I had a very strange/negative experience at this dental office. Tooth #2 was suddenly hurting really badly and I needed a dentist ASAP! I called a few offices and this location had lots of availability. That should have been red flag #1. The office is very clean, modern, and the equipment is up to date. The entire staff is very friendly. What I had a problem with is usually once the crown is placed, you let the dentist know if it feels too high and they drill down until you say "when." My dentist who put in the crown tried many times to adjust the crown but it didn't seem to improve so it got a little embarrassing to keep saying its too high over and over. I was leaving Seattle for good that week so I was adamant to have that crown just right before I left so I didn't have to go to another dentist to fix their work. I missed work to go in and see a different dentist. I told her there was a gap between the new crown and the tooth in front causing lots of food to get stuck. She told me that would go away in 6-8 weeks. I probably have 8 crowns in my mouth and that has never been the case in the past. She tried having me bite the blue paper 2-3x then drilled down to fix my bite. Then she just gave up and refused to continue on. It was so strange. She said it didn't need to be adjusted anymore. I didn't even know how to respond because I kept telling her the bite feels wrong. Fast forward a few weeks....I went back to my normal dentist in the Bay Area. He was able to fix my crown within 1-2 minutes of drilling so that my bite felt back to normal. He also confirmed I would need a new crown because of the gap between the new crown and my old tooth would cause me lots of problems. Basically everything I tried to tell Ballard Modern Dentistry that was ignored. We waited out the 6-8 weeks just to be absolutely sure. Yep, I have to floss that one tooth after every meal with the gap now and it's been a good 4 months since it's been done. The positive: I got a full refund for that crown and I'm to have it redone by my regular dentist. The office manager, receptionist, dental assistants, dentists were all very friendly. It was just really strange that the dentist refused to keep drilling my crown down when I told them my bite felt off. That has never happened to me in my whole life and I've been to many dentists in this lifetime. Very upsetting. Update: went to see a dentist in San Diego today because of extreme tooth pain in that crown. He noted the crown was done poorly. Too much cement was used and the placement was too high. I ended up needing a root canal and got sent to a endodontist to have that done. I feel like that should have been caught while in Seattle... read more

I've been here 3 times now and the treatment gets worse each time. The dentist I saw today for a chipped tooth was extremely impersonal and was speaking down to me like a child getting in trouble. Then I was left waiting for close to 30 minutes alone in an exam room before they came back to actually fix the problem. I certainly won't be coming back here anytime soon. read more

All staff were very nice and attentive. The office space however was very dirty. There were multiple pieces of trash left out around the waiting area, the carpet was very dirty (appeared as though it had not been vacuumed in weeks), visible scum on X-ray equipment, and visible scum on light above cleaning chair that is about three feet from the patient's face. Additionally, the sanitation of equipment that were placed in my mouth following X-rays were simply wiped with a sanitation wipe. It is very unsettling to have sharp instruments placed in your mouth in an office that is unsanitary. read more

I normally don't leave bad reviews but I don't want anyone to get poor care here like I did. Like other reviews have mentioned the office is chaotic and often running late, but I could ignore that if the service were good. Unfortunately, the dental care I've gotten here is sub par. Three fillings from the last three years have already gone bad and a new dentist has to redo them. One filling I had last summer hurt immediately after they did it, and despite multiple trips back to Ballard modern dentistry where they attempted to fix the filling it hurt to chew on that side for two months. The revolving cast of staff should've been a warning sign. Go here if you need to be seen quickly in a dental emergency I guess but otherwise I would go somewhere else read more

So glad I found this this dental office! Came in as a new patient and the front office staff helped me with all my insurance questions. Marcy did a great job welcoming me to the office and making me comfortable while taking care of all of my X-rays. Sarabelle gave me a good cleaning and meticulously and energetically explained the proper form of flossing. Dr. Dewenter was very personable and did a great job explaining all care I received today. I made an appointment here hoping the reviews were not true. Unfortunately, I should have listened and gone elsewhere. This office was extremely chaotic and unorganized. Starting with an employee scolding another employee where everyone in the waiting room can listen. The only great thing about my visit with the dentist herself. She was very professional and thorough. The dental assistance was new and had no resources available to help her. At one point two employees were talking about the wrong X-rays from a different patient being added to my chart. The cleaning itself was done poorly. My electric toothbrush at home probably does a better job. Tech was touching her face and hair with gloves on and then touching the plastic piece used for X-rays that go in my mouth without exchanging gloves. This is not clean technique. Dr. Jessica Raber did an outstanding job restoring my front teeth with crowns. I was able to have my entire treatment (6 crowns) completed in the same day using their in office Cerec technology. My tooth sensitivity resolved entirely. The result is beautiful and extremely natural appearing. She takes the time to make sure the crowns look like they are your original teeth (but restored and prettier!). She gave me plenty of options in terms of how much I felt ready to do same day-- also gave me plenty of opportunities to request changes in the design and color. Her staff from the front desk to the dental assistants were all kind and caring. My results exceeded my expectation with certainty. She clearly strives for an outstanding outcome. read more

Taking my business elsewhere--this place has become incredibly scammy! I had an appointment with a dentist I haven't seen before. Despite arriving 30 minutes early, I was forced to wait for nearly 1.5 hours. This was my first appointment with dental insurance, and I was shocked to be hit with almost $400 out of pocket. What's more, the same services I had paid for without insurance cost less! The service itself felt unnecessary, and my gums were worse off after the appointment, taking longer to recover. Looking to maximize $$$ at the expense of a personalized care. I have been there a couple of times as they take my dental insurance. It always felt rushed - no real dentist examination, constantly new employees - but, I just need a bi yearly cleaning so I put up with it. However during my last visit they asked me to do a x-ray again saying their policy was to do one x-ray per year. While cost is covered by my insurance, I find it excessive and would rather wait a bit more time as I have never had any dental issues (one mini cavity in 40y, 10y ago). The technician also hurt me during my first visit when doing x-ray so I would rather wait one more year for this useless step. The dentist's motivation to do the x-ray was to be able to skip the exam (he can just check the x ray in 1 min). Because I turned down the x-ray, I "cost him" 15 minutes of his time as he had to look at my teeth instead of letting the hygienist proceed with the cleaning. He saw nothing wrong. Then he told me that he would refuse to see me again if I was declining yearly the x-ray. Perfect example of putting profit over patient care and needs. Reading through the littérature the Associate of American dentists confirm doing an x-ray every 2-3y is good enough for patient in good health with no dental problems history. read more

I don't typically review spots but I felt an obligation to pay my respect when I see one is seamlessly operating. I don't love the dentist (I'm only human) but I genuinely had an awesome experience with Dr. Raber and the staff. The equipment is state of the art - from the iPad in-take to the dental machinery. The hygienist grabbed me right away and was super pleasant throughout the process. I was a smoker and my teeth aren't perfect so the hygienist and Dr. Raber made a seemingly dreary situation really enjoyable by being friendly, gentle, and attentive. My concerns were heard and they informed me of different options i could take to better myself. They know and communicate the good, the bad, and the ugly in a professional manner. I'll definitely be returning and telling others to switch over! And to the gentleman that left a poor review below for apparently being denied his "privacy" with a tank of nitrous (not to mention not being able to pay for services and still getting a refund?).....+1 to Ballard Modern Dentistry for not dealing with your nonsense. read more

This was an absolutely terrible experience. The office was dirty and shabby. My husband waited an entire hour to get a two minute X-ray. Then they cancelled his procedure with only two business days notice. They failed to provide any instructions on how he should prepare for his surgery. They tried to upsell us on additional items. This place did not make us feel comfortable for what was going to be a complex oral surgery. I have had a bad experience here more often than not. I've seen them for years bc I was too lazy to find a new dentist. what a mistake! they literally broke 1/4 of my molar off that didn't even have a cavit. they were calling it a "watch spot" only and now a piece of my tooth is entirely gone! do not go here. find anyone else to look at your teeth. my husbands last cleaning here too. It was completed in less than 2 mins and they didn't even floss him. we always have extra random charges being sent to insurance. This place is a total scam. read more

Overall I was happy with the quality of care, and even found everyone on the staff to be friendly and nice. However, I got the distinct impression that they were trying to pressure me into paying for expensive procedures that I was not sure were necessary. My wife had a similar experience: after the main cleaning, they'll send someone in to try to talk you into paying for additional dental work, and can sometimes be quite pushy about it. Another family member also recently mentioned to me that they thought this office prioritized profits above the preferences of the patient. I realize this is weird to say but...I'm obsessed with Ballard Modern Dentistry. Yes, this is a dentists office and no, I'm not a glutton for punishment. But I had such an amazing experience here that I haven't stopped talking about it. I've been moving around quite a bit in the last few years and haven't been good about establishing care with a new dentist because of it. So when I found out I'd be leaving Seattle, I bit the bullet and logged onto Yelp to find a dentist so that I could at least get a general cleaning. I found Ballard Modern Dentistry, saw they were doing a new patient special, and made an appointment with Dr. Ra for that week (a pretty amazing feat in itself). I'm legitimately convinced that, had I not just moved out of Seattle 2 weeks after my appointment, I would be making random appointments just to hang out with Dr. Ra. She (and the rest of the office staff) were some of the friendliest and most fun staff I've ever encountered at a medical practice. Not only that, they all gave top level care. Like most people, I'm not a fan of the dentist. But the whole experience was easy, well explained, informative, and dare I say enjoyable. If I could take this staff and practice with me everywhere I go, I would. And if I ever move back to Seattle, I won't hesitate to make an appointment here no matter what neighborhood I live in. read more

I was referred to this dental office by a friend so I decided to give it a try. I called in to schedule an appointment for a filling due to discomfort and the front desk promised me the doctor will be able to do it during my first visit. But during the first visit the doctor checked and told me that I don't need a filling for that particular tooth, I just need to get my wisdom teeth removed. However, knowing that I need a few fillings from my previous dentist, I requested him to do it for me. He said I'll need to do a general checkup next time and then he could generate a plan for me. The second time I came my filling was still not done. I had to wait for 15mins for him to come back with a plan. After which my appointment time had been up. Third time I finally got my fillings. As someone who constantly get cavities and fillings, I would say the procedure was not very comfortable. The doctor seemed to be in a rush at the end, and did not even finish polishing my tooth and left the nurse to do it. Only after I went home I found out that the edge was very rough and hurt my tongue. I did not go back again. The frontdesk staff and the technician were very nice. The office uses modern equipments thus costs higher. I would not recommend it if you value high efficiency and level of comfort during procedures. read more

I had a crown fall off and called right when they opened to see if they would be able to get me in right away. The office manager informed me my regular doctor (Dr. Sharifi) didn't have any availability but another doctor did in a few hours. I didn't care who I went to, I only needed a crown fixed and lived pretty far (in Issaquah). All I can say is WOW! Dr. Raber was the one to see me and her level of service and work is amazing. Dr. Sharifi is also amazing and has always made me feel very welcome in the Ballard office, I can say that Dr. Raber knocked it out of the park! I had a lot of anxiety with a front crown falling off, but she immediately made me laugh and feel really relaxed being in her chair. Her kindness and keeping me informed through the whole process was great and her checking in whenever starting the next thing made me feel really cared for. I know she isn't always in the office, but if you have a chance to book with Dr. Raber, DO IT!! You will not be disappointed. She helped me form a game plan for what I need and made sure I really understood everything. The dental assistant, who I did not catch her name was also very funny and helpful. I had a very pleasant experience with Ballard Modern Dentistry. I've just moved into a new neighborhood and wanted to establish a new dentist. Pros: it was easy to schedule an appointment (roughly 1 week out). I was greeted when I walked in, and my appointment started on time. My dental assistant was friendly and talked me through the procedures. My dentist was terrific, friendly, and knowledgable. The office was clean, bright, and everyone was in a good mood. Cons: none! It was a 5/5 experience. I've had some mild issues with my gums and some shadier dentists have tried to upsell me on deep cleanings in the past. My previous dentist said I didn't really need it. Ballard Modern Dentistry agreed - she said I was borderline, but didn't need it for now. I appreciate them not upselling unnecessary services. I'll definitely be back! read more
