Saucissier de L'ouest isn't what you see on the sign. It say something like WunderWurst Saucissier…read morebut there's some smaller sign for with their place they say Saucissier de l'Ouest. So the owner bought the business from a guy that used to be quite sloppy and lacked in cleaniness. Well the current owner revamped that and is clean and listening and trying lot of stuff and is always serving people, always rolling his stock and that's a very good thing to hear about a place where freshness is everything...or Almost. There's also quality and variety. And you he hold 60 kinds of sausages / chorizos / gendarme/ peppeto. Also a pretty interesting selection of Gluten Free sausages. The owner and his wife as pretty much always working there and being successful at it. They have love for what they do. They serve some food in the Marché de l'Ouest food court like burgers and european hotdog with home made fries. Cheap deal for quick eating. I won't go into details about every sausages I've tried there, but I have to say that half would sound about right. I like their Gluten Free sauvages, especially because it's Game Meat and I LOVE GAME MEAT. Also they have some good gluten free breakfast sausages, nothing like you would normally taste. I also like their more casual sausages like Italian, or Chorizo which are natural, no additive and freaking delicious compare to the one you buy in the super market. Smoked saucages! This is delicious! the Swiss Cheese or Debriziner which is spicy smoked german saucages is amazing. Most of the time I go to Marché de l'Ouest, I'll grab at least something to eat there and have a chat with the owner about what's new, what's the good seller of the week, etc.

Working in Le Plateau near Saint-Laurent and Mont-Royal is heaven for a foodie. So many options…read morefrom cheap ethnic hole-in-the-walls to fancy restaurants. One thing seriously lacking, though, are options for awesome sandwiches. Charcuteries Viens just opened a few days ago. Their offering is pretty limited: hand made cold cuts such as porchetta, ham and dry-cured sausages, as well as a few choices of sandwiches made on order which you'll take to go, as they're not expecting you to eat there. I tried their ham sandwich featuring their handcrafted ham (prosciutto cotto style with a nice fat cap), a few slides of Comtomme cheese by La Station de Compton, pickles and mustard. At $10 for two small sandwiches, it's a pretty good value. And it's pretty good tasting, too! What's lacking is perhaps a choice of one or two side salads for a more complete meal. No need for something fancy, a tangy red cabbage slaw, or a sweet beet salad would work beautifully. It may very well become one of my regular spots in the area to grab lunch!

MEAT SNACKS. There's…read morenot a lot of things that will get me excited as when I see the words "new", "charcuterie" and "Plateau" in the same sentence. Luckily for us, there's already a wealth of charcuterie in the Plateau, so the more the merrier, no? Mr. Phillip Viens comes from a pedigree of working with DNA, Maison Publique, and supplying charcuterie for Toqué and other restos, so I was really looking forward to trying their fare. When I first arrived, there was a photographer shooting a big chunk of porchetta at the front window. I'M IN THE RIGHT PLACE. They won't offer the full service in terms of meats, instead specializing in strictly charcuterie. I picked up a chorizo, fennel saucisson, some fresh pork sausages, and a bit of head cheese/sopressata. The best word I could use to describe their meats is restraint. When asked what was in their fresh pork sausages, they replied, pork, seasonings. "We really want the quality of our pork to shine." And shine it does, with just enough to accompany it in terms of salt et al. I think it might not be to everyone's taste, but it's still delicious. Personally, I prefer the saucisson from Lawrence and Champfleuri, but it's still excellent. The chorizo has a nice, deep smokey heat, but more from paprika than any chili (was there any chili?). Generally, the meats here are not salted as liberally as the others, both old (Fairmount, Vito, Champfleuri, Maison du Rotî) or new (Lawrence), which I prefer in the fresh stuff. I'll be sure to be back to try their porchetta and terrines.

Worth every penny from this bougie place we wouldn't normally go to. Sandwich perfection and friendly service. We shared a Zam Cola which was better and less chemically than Coke. Kinda like Brio. Yummy. We will be back with family from the USA for this European style experience.

Gotta give it to them they really do have a great selection of steaks with amazing marbling. It's always so juicy and amazing. The pret a manger selection at the counter is packed with goodies like (shepherds pie, Cesar salad and onion soup) I noticed that they actually have beer and wine here and they are all Quebec local brands. The total was a bit more than 16$, which is quite pricey (mostly because the terrine was 10$ alone). The guy at the counter (owner?) was friendly and helpful, despite me crashing their closing time. Another great thing about this place are the wonderful Italian products they import. The other day, Dino had me try some special Mortadella he had imported (the name escapes me). It was soft, perfectly flavoured and melt-in-your mouth good. If you're looking for a butcher in the Plateau/Mile-End, look no further.
