For those of you not in the know, I'm talking about cute, flattering, expensive-looking clothes at a decidedly midrange price point: $50-$100, mostly in the lower half of that range. They're designed to appeal to those of us who sweat Anthropologie, Tory Burch, and J. Crew, but they're much more affordable. These brands use more synthetic fabrics than the more expensive ones their devotees also like. Even so, they're worlds cuter and classier than H&M or Forever 21. Until recently, this classy-midrange space had nothing in it whatsoever, and I'm so glad that these new companies have stepped up to the plate. Maritime Passage curates these brands beautifully -- it's the kind of shop where you want to try and buy everything. The sales staff pamper you but aren't overbearing. I wish there were more shops like this in the DC area, where I live -- aside from 3 Sisters in Alexandria, I know of none.

The booking information shows beautiful bikes to rent and specifically states "Why rent a rust bucket when you can pedal a new bicycle?" Plus, as a part of the fine print agreement I signed a statement that states, "You will be charged full replacement cost for bikes returned with sand or saltwater wear." Well imagine our dismay when we found the Coastal Urge bikes were already parked in the sand, quite rusty, and only 26"; I had paid an additional $25 delivery fee and it was quite evident these bikes were kept there all of the time. Plus the bikes were a garish bright pink, not at all as described on the website. We opted to walk over to Riverside Adventures and received excellent service and bikes. I must say though that Coastal Urge were easy to work with when I requested a refund.

Now they have expanded to two storefronts making this shop a staple in downtown Southport with an expanded shoe section. The staff is professional and courteous however this is a higher end store with quality t-shirts for tourists. There are sales but for the most part, you pay full price.
